Stop Michael Boggs’ ConfirmationPresident Obama has asked the Senate to confirm a judicial nominee who tried to channel funds to anti-choice crisis pregnancy centers and make a parental consent law even more extreme. Judges hold an incredible responsibility when they take the bench. Americans need to trust them to take an objective view of the law and not use their position to advance their personal agenda. Michael Boggs showed us his true personal agenda as a state lawmaker, and we can’t trust him with our rights. Fortunately, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, recognized that Boggs "does not have the votes in committee" and "His nomination should be withdrawn." We agree with Sen. Leahy - support for Boggs' nomination has become a political liability for any senator who hopes to maintain their constituents' support. We’re disappointed that pro-choice President Obama nominated someone who doesn’t share our pro-choice values. We agree with the president on a lot of things, but not this pick. We can't rest until Boggs' nomination is withdrawn or he's defeated. Speak out now and call on your senators to oppose this out-of-touch nominee.481 of 500 SignaturesCreated by NARAL Pro-Choice America

Tell the Alabama Senate: Keep hospitals safe for pregnant women. For a woman excited to welcome a beautiful, healthy child into the world, there is nothing as devastating as learning the pregnancy is high-risk -- or worse, enduring a miscarriage. Pregnancy complications can threaten a woman's health and future fertility. Unfortunately, in Alabama, it could become legal for any medical staffer at a hospital to deny care and put pregnant women at risk. This week, the Alabama Senate will have a hearing on HB 31, a cruel bill that would allow health professionals to refuse to give urgent assistance to pregnant women who need to end the pregnancy to prevent serious harm. And in most cases, they would not even have to provide a referral elsewhere. The bill would also protect health care professionals and hospitals from liability for refusing to provide necessary medical care. Most doctors and nurses want to help women live healthy lives - not leave them in dangerous predicaments. The Alabama House has already passed this bill and this is a crucial moment to stop it in its tracks before the Senate votes on it. Stand with Alabama women and demand lawmakers oppose HB 31.115 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Susan Watson

Bada Bing: Stop the Objectification of WomenWe began a petition to ask Bada Bing to stop advertising certain themes that come across as objectifying and sexually degrading. These themes would promote an environment that would be uncomfortable and possibly dangerous for patrons due to the themes’ aggressive nature. We are simply asking that these themes are to be disbanded or changed to more socially acceptable and comfortable themes for all patrons. Geneseo is a reputable school full of intelligent women and men. Let’s go out and have fun without being stereotyped by Bada Bing.378 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Deven Coulter

Lilly Ledbetter: We need to do more for equal pay!Five years ago this month, I stood next to President Barack Obama while he signed his first bill into law--my law, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. And now, I'm in Washington, D.C., again--not only to celebrate the law's passage, but also to remind the President that his work is not done. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was an important first step in our fight for pay equity, but it was just that--a first step. While the Ledbetter law righted the wrong-headed decision the Supreme Court made in my case, we need an executive order from the President to give employees and employers the concrete tools they need to make real progress in closing the gender pay gap. Please join me in urging President Obama to make 2014 the year for progress on equal pay by signing an executive order banning federal contractors from retaliating against workers who ask about pay discrepancies--a critical first step.464 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Lilly Ledbetter, honorary public policy chair for AAUW of Alabama

Pro choice specialty license plateSpecialty license plates currently available in 29 states, including Ohio promote a pro-life (anti-abortion) message. By authorizing such plates, but not offering plates conveying a pro-choice message at the same time, Ohio is carrying out viewpoint discrimination. Each day in Ohio, I see only one side of the abortion debate being promoted with the approval and assistance of the state. As long as Ohio drivers who support reproductive rights are denied their own license plate, the State of Ohio is simultaneously providing a platform to oppose abortion while censoring those who support abortion rights.23 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mark Ira Kaufman

Use the right to vote to protect the right to choose. From 1972-2001, I ran a countywide abortion rights organization and two PACs. We flipped our county from 12-2 anti-choice to 100% pro-choice for county, state, and federal offices, by convincing pro-choice supporters to become pro-choice voters. I will seek every opportunity to urge pro-choice candidates to promote their pro-choice positions in their print literature, radio and TV ads, debates, and interviews. This is a winning strategy.251 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Polly Rothstein

Let's Pass the Equal Rights AmendmentAs Founder of Katrina’s Dream (www.KatrinasDream.org), an organization established in memory of my mother-in-law, the Rev. Katrina Martha Van Alstyne Welles Swanson, one of the first women priests to be ordained in the Episcopal Church, I represent an organization deeply invested in this issue and focused on achieving true equality, critical to your constituency. Recently widowed and having to navigate society has brought home the obstacles placed by oppressive societal forces facing women in America. I have lost my home, business, and am starting over. I am one of the 70% of those 100 million living in poverty and much of that has to do simply with my gender. While women are Equal in every aspect we are not treated the same under the law. The only only right guaranteed women is the right to vote. I am hoping that you will not only sign this petition but you will show you support of my pilgrimage across America from San Francisco to Washington DC covering all 15 states that have not ratified the ERA,to promote the full inclusion of women in society and join me in spirit on our Facebook event page. https://www.facebook.com/events/370467279764897/ Thank you in advance. I look forward to your continued support and prayers. Love and Light in Christ, Helene650 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Helene de Boissiere-Swanson

No more rape apologists--Denounce Richard Black!Richard Black, a candidate for Congress in Virginia, thinks that spousal rape should not be a crime. When Virginia voted to allow spouses to be prosecuted for rape, Black opposed it as a state senator and questioned whether marital rape is even possible, saying "when they're living together, sleeping in the same bed, she's in a nightie, and so forth." This is outrageous and unacceptable. Marital rape is a crime and a very serious instance of domestic violence. And it's not the first time Black dismisses rape with his comments. He once told a newspaper that military rape is "as predictable as human nature... Think of yourself at 25,... Wouldn't you love to have a group of 19-year-old girls under your control, day in, day out?" When candidates for public office aren't met with the outrage they deserve for their offensive and incredibly dangerous comments, it only emboldens them to push radical anti-woman policies once they are in office. Black's views on rape are downright dangerous and inhumane, and we have to speak out. The National Republican Campaign Committee knows that women voters are critical to success. They have to hear that this is the wrong way to attract them.172 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Nita and Shaunna, UltraViolet

President Karzai: Give Spozhmai a child's lifeAs a writer of books for teenagers, I was horrified to read of Spozhmai's arrest and of her treatment at home. Young people deserve a stable environment in which to grow and learn, not a boot camp for suicide warriors. Please give her a real, caring home and a real life.155 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Tamora Pierce
