• Pro choice specialty license plate
Specialty license plates currently available in 29 states, including Ohio promote a pro-life (anti-abortion) message. By authorizing such plates, but not offering plates conveying a pro-choice message at the same time, Ohio is carrying out viewpoint discrimination. Each day in Ohio, I see only one side of the abortion debate being promoted with the approval and assistance of the state. As long as Ohio drivers who support reproductive rights are denied their own license plate, the State of Ohio is simultaneously providing a platform to oppose abortion while censoring those who support abortion rights.

  • Use the right to vote to protect the right to choose.
From 1972-2001, I ran a countywide abortion rights organization and two PACs. We flipped our county from 12-2 anti-choice to 100% pro-choice for county, state, and federal offices, by convincing pro-choice supporters to become pro-choice voters. I will seek every opportunity to urge pro-choice candidates to promote their pro-choice positions in their print literature, radio and TV ads, debates, and interviews. This is a winning strategy.

  • Illinois ERA Now!
We need three states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment so that it can be added to the Constitution, as our 28th Amendment. The time has come for equality among women and men to be recognized and supported by our United States Constitution

  • Let's Pass the Equal Rights Amendment
As Founder of Katrina’s Dream (www.KatrinasDream.org), an organization established in memory of my mother-in-law, the Rev. Katrina Martha Van Alstyne Welles Swanson, one of the first women priests to be ordained in the Episcopal Church, I represent an organization deeply invested in this issue and focused on achieving true equality, critical to your constituency. Recently widowed and having to navigate society has brought home the obstacles placed by oppressive societal forces facing women in America. I have lost my home, business, and am starting over. I am one of the 70% of those 100 million living in poverty and much of that has to do simply with my gender. While women are Equal in every aspect we are not treated the same under the law. The only only right guaranteed women is the right to vote. I am hoping that you will not only sign this petition but you will show you support of my pilgrimage across America from San Francisco to Washington DC covering all 15 states that have not ratified the ERA,to promote the full inclusion of women in society and join me in spirit on our Facebook event page. https://www.facebook.com/events/370467279764897/ Thank you in advance. I look forward to your continued support and prayers. Love and Light in Christ, Helene

  • No more rape apologists--Denounce Richard Black!
Richard Black, a candidate for Congress in Virginia, thinks that spousal rape should not be a crime. When Virginia voted to allow spouses to be prosecuted for rape, Black opposed it as a state senator and questioned whether marital rape is even possible, saying "when they're living together, sleeping in the same bed, she's in a nightie, and so forth." This is outrageous and unacceptable. Marital rape is a crime and a very serious instance of domestic violence. And it's not the first time Black dismisses rape with his comments. He once told a newspaper that military rape is "as predictable as human nature... Think of yourself at 25,... Wouldn't you love to have a group of 19-year-old girls under your control, day in, day out?" When candidates for public office aren't met with the outrage they deserve for their offensive and incredibly dangerous comments, it only emboldens them to push radical anti-woman policies once they are in office. Black's views on rape are downright dangerous and inhumane, and we have to speak out. The National Republican Campaign Committee knows that women voters are critical to success. They have to hear that this is the wrong way to attract them.

  • President Karzai: Give Spozhmai a child's life
As a writer of books for teenagers, I was horrified to read of Spozhmai's arrest and of her treatment at home. Young people deserve a stable environment in which to grow and learn, not a boot camp for suicide warriors. Please give her a real, caring home and a real life.

  • Bust Magazine, fire Roseanne as your advice columnist
Roseanne's show may have been groundbreaking, but today, Roseanne is transphobic and seemingly woman- (and feminist-)hating. She shouldn't be spewing advice in the pages of a self-proclaimed feminist magazine (or anywhere, really, but we'll settle for not in Bust). As an xoJane commenter wrote, "[Roseanne] is a prime example of how you can ~*be a woman*~ and ~*do some ground-breaking sh_t*~ and ~*carve out a big place for yourself in women's history*~ AND THEN F_CKING RUIN IT by BEING AN A__HOLE and apparently also not having any reading comprehension skills." (http://www.xojane.com/issues/lindy-west-roseanne-twitter-rape-jokes#comment-920034251) In the words of black feminist blogger Trudy Hamilton, "Roseanne's White & class privileged, ignore class intersections in the 99%, transphobic, cis gender 'feminism' = BOO." (https://twitter.com/thetrudz/status/261860715059609600) Need some examples? On 12/23/13, Roseanne tweeted (and then deleted) "susan rice is a man w big swinging ape balls" (https://twitter.com/TheRealRoseanne/status/415172464386138114) June 2013: Attacking feminist blogger/comedian Lindy West & mischaracterizing her comments as advocating censorship: http://jezebel.com/why-is-roseanne-calling-jezebel-a-misogynistic-woman-h-511345557 October 2012: Discriminating against pre-op trans women: http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/73083271.html No, Bust, we CAN'T "all just get along." • Designated Pumping Area in Workplace
I am starting this petition because I feel our society already makes it difficult for moms to breastfeed and work. I have personally been affected by this issue since there is not a specific place (that is consistent, and I know will always be available) for me to pump at work. Breastfeeding is the most beneficial form of nutrition for a baby, and I feel all companies should support working mothers by providing an adequate and consistent location to pump.

  • Bring MI Law Restricting Abortion Coverage in Insurance Plans to the Voters
How are women supposed to know ahead of time if they are going to be raped or be a victim of incest? If this law is not opposed, these women will have to pay out of their pockets for ALL medical if they need an abortion, including if there are complications afterward. We need to stop this and bring this to the voters of Michigan to vote on.

  • Don't rehire Gov. Bob McDonnell's secretary of Health and Human Resources.
Women's votes and reproductive rights were decisive in Virginia's gubernatorial election, securing Terry McAuliffe's victory over anti-choice Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. But shortly after this victory, people started hearing that McAuliffe was thinking about keeping on Dr. Bill Hazel, Gov. McDonnell's Health and Human Resources secretary, in his own administration. [1] Hazel is privately credited with helping put together a less politically damaging version of Virginia's mandatory ultrasound law, which Gov. McDonnell ultimately signed. Is this the kind of administration McAuliffe's supporters were hoping for? Stand with us to ask Governor-Elect McAuliffe to remember the people he's representing as he picks a Health and Human Resources secretary of his own. [1] - "Terry McAuliffe Considers Retaining Gov. Bob McDonnell’s Secretary of Health," by Erin Matson, RH Reality Check, December 12, 2013 http://rhrealitycheck.org/article/2013/12/12/terry-mcauliffe-considers-retaining-gov-bob-mcdonnells-secretary-of-health/

  • USA Cycling: Move Cyclocross National Championships Back to December
The move of the USA Cycling cyclocross National Championships from December into January has made it difficult for many competitors to attend. By being held in the winter in the US, the options for a suitable host location are also limited. Travel during the winter months is also made more difficult by the potential adverse weather conditions. All of these factors combined with the date being right after the holidays makes the move of the race from December to January, counterproductive.
