• John Boehner please denounce Rep Akin's "Legitimate Rape" comments
We want Speaker Boehner to take action and denounce Representative Todd Akin's recent comments. In case you missed it, on television 8-19-12, Rep. Akin said that victims of "legitimate rape" hardly ever get pregnant and that "if it's legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." Rep. Akin has since said he "misspoke," but he continues to believe that women should be forced to carry and give birth to babies that are the result of rape. As speaker of the House, John Boehner should denounce Akin's outrageous "legitimate rape" comments—and he also has the power remove Rep. Akin from the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

  • Rep. Todd Akin must resign
Victims of "legitimate rape" can't get pregnant because a woman's body will shut down and prevent the pregnancy. Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) actually said that–in other words, he's saying that if a woman does get pregnant, she must not have been raped. Even scarier? He's running, and leading, in the race for Missouri Senate. What he said was bad, but it was hardly a gaffe or poor choice of words. In 2011 he and Rep. Paul Ryan led the push in the House of Representatives to redefine rape as "forcible rape" to further restrict rape survivors' access to abortions. As a state senator, Akin questioned whether anti-marital rape laws would be abused by women in messy divorces Anyone who doesn't understand basic biology and tries to create more hurdles for rape survivors seeking justice doesn't belong in the United States Congress. Sign the petition calling Rep. Akin to resign right away.

  • Respect, Recognition and Labor Protections for Domestic Workers
74 years ago, American workers won the right to minimum wage, overtime pay, and at least one day of rest each week. But domestic workers were excluded from these basic protections because back then, the black women who cleaned, cooked, and cared for children were considered second class citizens. Our country has come a long way since 1938, but our labor laws haven't kept up. For 74 years, domestic workers have been denied the basic labor rights that so many American workers take for granted. It's time to end this shameful legacy and bring our nation's labor laws into the twenty-first century!

  • Remove Rep. Todd Akin (R.-MO.) from the House IMMEDIATELY
I am befuddled that someone in our government has made such a ridiculous claim. Rep. Akin should be nowhere near the US Government nor should he have any involvement in the decision making processes for the American people.

  • Help U.S. military women raped by fellow-soldiers
U.S. military women soldiers in record numbers have been raped by fellow-soldiers, often officers. They currently do not receive the help they need--financial, psychological, and physical--including abortions, if they become pregnant and choose not to carry to term the fetus of a rapist. They deserve our help and respect for their work to protect U.S. interests at home and abroad.

  • Todd Akin has to go!
Congressman Todd Akin (R) is currently running for the Senate in Missouri. He recently stated that women don't get pregnant from legitimate rape! While he is backpedaling hard right now, he is CLEARLY too biased, uneducated, and extremist to even remotely represent the people of Missouri, or anyone else for that matter! Conservative or liberal, doesn't matter: Todd, time for you to resign!

For every dollar a man makes, woman only make 79 cents, I'm a single mother and I can use every penny, it isn't fair that I have to work just as hard as a man but I don't get paid just as much.

  • Bring back The Equal Rights Admendment
This petition would bring the Admendment to the forefront again in order to obtain the final 3 states needed to satisfy the total of 38 states needed to finalize ratification. All American women would benefit from the ratification of this admendment. It is becoming clear that women's rights are under fire by politicians because they do not recognize the Constitution as applying to women, therefore making women subject to discrimination (Anton Scalia has said as much). Much of the manipulating of women's lives by politicians would go away if this admendment became part of our governing document.

  • Atlas Shrugged...Really, Paul Ryan?
Get the word out that Paul Ryan claims reading Atlas Shrugged inspired him into public service. What would Ayn Rand, author of Atlas Shrugged, think of Paul Ryan's policies? "Abortion is a moral right - which should be left to the sole discretion of the woman involved; morally, nothing other than her wish in the matter is to be considered. Who can conceivably have the right to dictate to her what disposition she is to make of the functions of her own body?" -- Ayn Rand
