South Dakota wants doctors to lie to women seeking abortion by forcing doctors to inform women that having an abortion increases their risk of suicide. As one of my family members committed suicide, I find this law to be not only demeaning to a woman's choice regarding pregnancy, but to the very real problem of suicide. The law is based on faulty, misrepresented information and is merely fear-mongering on the part of the lawmakers.

In Sudan, 23 year old Laila Jamool has been sentenced for adultery to death by stoning. She and her 6-month old daughter are in jail. Women of the world, as well as men, must protest this unfair and deadly sentence. As a woman, I am outraged that the world tolerates this treatment of other human beings!

We know how important it is to reauthorize a strong Violence Against Women Act. Unfortunately, extreme voices in the House of Representatives have decided that playing politics is more important than protecting women from violence. These women are our friends, neighbors, and loved ones – and they deserve equal protection under the law. Tell the right wing House leadership to stop the political games and pass the Senate’s strong, bipartisan Violence Against Women Act that protects the health and safety of all women.

My daughter and I were online at The Gap looking for well priced clothing. Much to our dismay we came across the "Skinny Girls" campaign, with clothing that is guaranteed to make most girls starve themselves in order to be able to fit into them. The message is dangerous and being targeted to even the pre-school age consumers. With eating disorders close to being an epidemic, retailers should know better.

A million New Yorkers lack the basic security of paid sick days at their jobs. They are waitresses and cooks, cashiers and day care providers. When they have no choice but to go to work sick, it's not healthy for anyone. If you have paid sick days, it's easy enough to take them for granted. If you get sick, you stay home to recover. If you need to bring your child to the doctor, you go, without fear of losing pay or being fired. No one should have to choose between their job and their family's health, especially in difficult times like this. It’s time to ensure all working women and men in New York City have the same basic security. A bill pending in the New York City Council that would allow New Yorkers to earn paid sick days has a two-thirds majority of support on the City Council. But so far, Council Speaker Christine Quinn hasn't allowed a vote. When I became pregnant with my son, I had two choices career-wise: return to work after a few weeks, using up all my sick and vacation days and maybe taking unpaid emergency leave; or quit my job. I chose to quit my job. I was lucky enough that I had the support needed to be able to stay home and take care of my baby. But most American women can't afford to quit their jobs; some have to return to work as soon as two weeks after giving birth, or risk being fired. While many assume this is the way it has to be, the fact is that American women are practically the only women in the world forced to make this terrible choice. The United States needs to catch up with the rest of the world with regards to respecting women and valuing motherhood. We are one of three countries, out of 178, to NOT have paid maternity leave. Pregnancy and caring for an infant are neither an illness nor a vacation. Having children is a normal part of most people's lives, and allowing mothers the option of being their babies' primary caregivers benefits the whole of society in many verifiable, concrete ways. Paid maternity leave allows mothers to recuperate physically and emotionally from childbirth; promotes bonding and breastfeeding; significantly decreases infant mortality rates; reduces child and spousal abuse; and is of net benefit to the economy as it reduces government spending and the need for public assistance.

My concern is of the expliotation of young girls on any online site. How can us as a country have this taken place? We must help these young girls and their freedom. Us young women are not commodities to men. We are in much capability to achieve goals as the same as men. I plead to you to take action on this topic at hand. We must help these girls.

My petition is to boycott the advertisers of the obscene programming that features child beauty contests. The exploitation of these children, and the sexuality that is forced upon them by their mothers is abuse. Someone must try to protect them.

Any person that can use a web browser can watch free internet pornography. Go ahead and search "sex tube." You will see free clips ranging from 1 to 90 minutes. Before the internet you had to be 21 to view adult material. Now you just have use a browser which means kids can view it. There are web filters but they are marginal at best. Parents can keep computers in the open areas but that is marginal too. Kids have smart phones and look at their friend's computers. I am all for free speech but I also don't want my child learning about sex from the internet. Pornography sites should all have the .xxx extension. That way our filtering software will have a chance of succeeding. But the Porn industry doesn't want that and spent millions lobbying congress. The Porn industry wants to cultivate the next generation of porn addicts. This is nuts and we all know it. So why doesn't congress fix this ? It is an easy fix and it is consistent with what the states have done for decades. I have contacted congressman Charlie Dent who ignored me. I think the only reason congress keeps looking the other way must be the lobby dollars.
