The threat of ending the DACA program will put 700,00-800,000 young people across the country at risk for deportation. Several threatened include students from our own student body at Aquinas College. Our school, with its Dominican traditions, should stand with our community and work to provide a safe space where all students can focus on their academics instead of worrying about their families and immigration status.

Seeing fake news titles and descriptions at the grocery checkout reinforces what the more gullible may already think and reinforces their brainwashing. These “magazines” are nothing more than Brietbart or Fox News or worse at the checkout. When I get to the checkout stand I do not want to be angered by these vile rags. Does my grocer want an angry customer at the checkout or a happy customer. These lies need to go.

I travel on the NJ Turnpike everyday and see the traffic caused by motorists who wait until the last minute to cut over to the exits stated, which causes major delays as other motorists hit their brakes to accommodate those driving erratically & irresponsibly.

Trump has been carelessly Tweeting out all sorts of wild garbage for years with no thought to possible consequences. Now that he is President, the reputation, credibility and even the security of the country is being damaged.

We, the citizens and taxpayers of this nation, and therefore, owners of the people's White House, object to the provision of a West Wing office, security clearance, and government-issued communications device for the President's daughter, Ivanka Trump. In this scenario, there is no precedent, no guidelines, and therefore, no protocol for accountability or oversight. Further, a conflict of interest is clear as reportedly Ms. Trump continues to own and profit from her fashion and jewelry businesses, both of which also appear to benefit from her father's name, presumably even moreso now that her father is President of the United States. Finally, this scenario is different from other adult children advising past Presidents: not just there to offer insights to her father, it appears Ms. Trump will have an expansive portfolio, and without associated education or experience in government, public office, or public policy. It has already been of significant concern to the petitioners herein to see Ms. Trump sitting in on high-level Presidential meetings with foreign heads of state.

Trump’s goal is clear: this is a request to fund mass deportation. Trump is putting all the pieces in place for his Deportation Force to carry out mass deportation. In addition to the wall, Trump wants to vastly expand detention camps to lock up more immigrants including families seeking asylum, put more agents on the border, expand raid operations that will terrorize communities, and re-direct more federal funds toward prosecution of immigration violations. These rubber-stamp convictions are intended to warp the statistics and bolster their hate-fueled propaganda portraying immigrants as criminals. Trump is building out a police state, in part through his Deportation Force, so that any challenges to his dystopian detention and deportation nightmare can be swiftly and forcefully suppressed. Already under Trump, we have seen chaos at our airports and in our communities. That chaos and cruelty would only be magnified if Trump gets his way, but in order to implement these plans, he needs more money. We have the power to say NO. Tell Senate Democrats—especially leadership and members of the Appropriations Committee—to say NO to funding for Trump’s Deportation Force. On March 16, the Trump administration requested $3 billion from Congress for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to begin funding his executive orders through September 30, 2017. Republicans will need 60 votes to pass any funding bill - and there are only 52 Republicans in the Senate - so Democrats have the power to resist the Trump agenda. What does $3 billion to DHS pay for? • $1.4 billion to construct the border wall, a physical symbol of exclusion and hate and a clear waste of taxpayer dollars. • $1.2 billion for more detention facilities which will fuel the private prison industry and exacerbate existing, sometimes fatal, abuses in these facilities. • Prepares to hire 1,000 ICE agents in 2018 so more ICE agents will roam communities - including churches and courthouses – creating terror and panic. • Prepares to hire 500 more CBP agents even though DHS doesn’t meet existing hiring goals because so many applicants fail their polygraph tests. And this is just the beginning. Trump will need billions and billions in more funding to make his executive orders a reality. President Trump’s immigration agenda spells cruel separation of families and communities. Since his election, ICE has detained DREAMers, gone into courthouses to arrest survivors of domestic violence, deported mothers and fathers, and left families stranded oceans apart through his continued Muslim ban. Tell Senate Democrats to say NO to funding Trump’s wall, Deportation Force and detention camps.

Please ask your legislators to support Senate Bill 180. The RISE Act, Senate Bill 180, has been introduced into the California Legislature by Senator Holly Mitchell (D-Los Angeles). It is a key sentencing reform bill in the effort to shift from a failed policy of mass incarceration and jail expansion to social investments that will actually reduce drug use and support vibrant, healthy communities. SB 180 would repeal the current three-year sentence enhancements for prior drug convictions, with the exception of convictions involving a minor. The enhancements are applied consecutively – three years for every prior conviction for possession for sale. Of the 1,700 people now serving sentences longer than five years, many more than 10 years, in county jails; the leading cause is non-violent drug sale offenses. Why is the RISE Act so important? It will: Free up taxpayer dollars for investment in cost-effective community based programs instead of costly jail expansion. Address the extreme sentences that are causing some people to spend 10 years or more in dangerous, overcrowded county jails. Reduce racial disparities in the criminal justice system. Reduce the practice of punishing people who are suffering from a substance disorder. On Wednesday, March 22, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is holding a hearing on "The State of Global Humanitarian Affairs." Gregory Gottlieb of USAID will testify, as will Yves Daccord, Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross. [1] This is a key opportunity for Senators to press the Administration on what it will do to help avert famine in Yemen - and to press the Administration on why, by giving a green light to the Saudis to blockade and attack the crucial Yemeni port of Hodeida, the Administration is currently helping to cause famine in Yemen. [2] It's also a key opportunity for Senators to help highlight the advocacy of the Red Cross, which has called for access to Hodeida for aid organizations to bring in food and medicine to northern Yemen. [3] 53 Members of the House have called on the State Department to press to open Hodeida to food imports. [4] Senators should take this opportunity to echo this call. When I see friends and family trying to insure a vehicle in Detroit but cannot because the monthly premium is more for one month than most others pay for a year, I cringe. When I see the rates continuing to climb with no end in sight I am speechless. I know that in Detroit having access to a vehicle means having the ability to go to a fruit market and buy fresh fruit, it means going to a grocery store, it is the ability to get to and from a job, it is being able to take your children to activities that are not accessible in Detroit. Until there are changes in our laws and some compassion, Detroiters cannot afford to insure their homes much less their cars. We need to sustain healthy, happy families in Detroit.
