I take offense that when the residents vote on the ballot, for a minimum wage increase, and a clear majority of citizens favored the bill, now in response, the state government wants to have a temper tantrum and strip away our rights to create laws at The Ballot Box.

My nephew is in the foster care system, and I have repeatedly seen DFCS and the juvenile court make decisions that place him at risk. When questioned, they blame the state law. If the best interests of children are not the law's first priority, the law needs to be changed.

That Senate Democrats are considering shifting the tax burden from upper middle class to poor and working poor, but reducing sales tax on luxury items & replacing revenue with taxes on food & drugs... this is outrageously offensive. Illinois is a rich state. Illinois' revenue problem is driven by the requirement (in Illinois Constitution) to have a flat tax so rich people's tax burden is kept low. This is unjust & it's bad policy.

If passed, this bill would be the first piece of anti-refugee legislation in Virginia and sets an ominous, discriminatory trend. It requires nonprofit refugee-serving organizations to report humanitarian refugees to the state as if they were potential criminals. These refugees include interpreters who helped the US military and are unsafe in their home country. The Federal government has already approved each and every refugee after a thorough investigation. We should welcome humanitarian refugees to our great country with open arms. Let's stop the Senate from wasting Virginia tax dollars on this discriminatory and dangerous legislation. #nobannowall

Costco has a deserved reputation for treating its employees well, and for being a socially responsible organization. I hope that Costco can persuade Citigroup to divest from the North Dakota Pipe Line which is a symbol of Native oppression, environmental recklessness and if completed will fuel Climate catastrophe. If not offer an alternative to the Citigroup credit card.

The current administration has been put in place illegally according to the mandate of the Electoral College. The American voter was robbed of the popular candidate by the Electoral College's supporting their party rather than voting according to their mission; i.e., to guarantee that an unqualified, mentally unstable candidate never be appointed to the highest office in the land.

We pay taxes; Trump does not. Trump is not a smart businessman for not paying his taxes; he's a crook. We need a president to set a better standard.

Betsy DeVos has proven time and time again that she is completely unqualified to serve as Secretary of Education. Recently, she struggled to answer even basic questions about schools in her home state of Michigan, where she implemented a private charter school system that has drained public education funds and worsened both public and private school performance statewide. During her confirmation hearings, it was alarmingly clear she was lacking knowledge about public education as we know it, as well as our most at-risk students—the disabled, the economically disadvantaged, English Language Learners, and more. Also in her hearings, she cited dangers from "grizzlies" as a reason guns should be in schools. Now, unsurprisingly, she is advocating Donald Trump's plan to arm teachers. A well-educated public is an essential cornerstone of American democracy. Betsy DeVos is a clear and present danger to that and must be forced to resign.

It is actually clear that the President and (especially) his advisors lack even a basic familiarity with Black History and issues of racial justice. I'm calling on them to use an already existing monthly event to begin to rectify that.

I am a long time fan of SNL and get great enjoyment from the recent political satires regarding the Trump administration. I am ready for the SNL team to kick it up another notch!

As a 10 year resident of Westfield and the father of 3 children I think that it is imperative that we create an environment that fosters inclusiveness and diversity. One in which every member is free from the fear of being singled out because of their differences. In a sanctuary city, officials implement policies to restrict local police from turning immigrants over to federal immigration agents and declare in no uncertain terms that immigrants are welcome. Without them, undocumented immigrants are left vulnerable to racial profiling, detention and deportation. It is our hope that this petition will help us get on the agenda to discuss adopting a resolution to become an official Sanctuary City. Please help us join the hundreds and hundreds of cities across the US that have become Sanctuary Cities.

Betsy DeVos is completely unqualified to head up the Department of Education. She has never attended, taught in, or sent her children to public schools.
