  • Justice for my Father
To Whom It May Concern, My Dad, Cesar Islas-Alvarez case #15151086, has been in jail for more than 20 years, serving a non-violent offense. He has served more than 65% of time in prison than someone else with the same Criminal charges. We, as his children, demand fair justice. Our Former President, Barack Obama released more than a 1,000 prisoners serving Life sentences. My Dad applied for his Clemency but got blindsided. That’s why we are creating this Petition to our House of Representatives, Senate and the Presidential Pardon Office. We are currently seeking help through our Congresswoman Kirsten Sinema from the 9th District in Maricopa County, Arizona. No results so far; just delayed notices. All we seek is help and justice for my Father. Regards,

  • WE WANT REAL CHANGE IN MASSACHUSETTS JUSTICE
We know that you all have been flooded with incredibly important actions at this time. But justice in Massachusetts cannot become a footnote. Even though 70 orgs. signed the urgent call for action on January 17th, WE MUST KEEP THE HEAT ON. Led by the Coalition for Effective Public Safety, we now ask individuals --as well as organizations who did not sign on to the 10 pg. letter-- to do so! We are also asking you to tell your legislators to call on Governor Charlie Baker, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Ralph Gants, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, and Senate President Stanley Rosenberg to address the clear and profound disparate treatment of people of color in our justice system and to address necessary justice issues spelled out in the letter. We demand that state leaders make good on promises to improve fairness and outcomes for those in the system, reduce prison and jail populations, decrease recidivism, and cut prison costs. We also urge the Governor and legislators to take responsibility now in executive actions and legislation to address long-standing failings of the Department of Correction and the Parole Board. The full letter is here: https://aclum.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/20170117-CSG-Letter.pdf and check out ACLU and Citizen for Juvenile Justice’s calls for action on their sites. PLEASE SIGN ON and SHARE THIS PETITON on Facebook and Twitter, and please email your organizations. Even if your organization signed, we encourage all individuals to sign on too. WE NEED TO LET MASSACHUSETTS LEADERS KNOW WE WON'T SETTLE FOR INJUSTICE.

  • Censure Trump for promising to torture
During his campaign, Donald Trump promised to murder or torture the family members of suspected terrorists – and even compel resisting soldiers to follow illegal orders to do so. Although Trump later rescinded this promise, he has since vowed to torture again. In light of the presidency’s awesome powers, persons of conscience should act on the assumption that Trump is already torturing in secret.

  • Congress Must Immediately Order New Election for President of the United States of America
A mountain of evidence calls the validity of the election into question, casting doubt, by any standard, on whether there it was a "free and fair" vote. Judging by the actions of the administration, this is an issue that has bi-partisan support. If we are to exist as a democracy, there is no alternative.

  • Condemn Trump Executive Action on Refugees
Senator Alexander's website , Twitter feed, Facebook page, etc. is focused almost exclusively on his support for the nominee for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos. Meanwhile, Trump's executive action banning entry of refugees immediately threatens the welfare of innocent lives, many of whom have assisted our government overseas. Condemning and stopping human rights violations like this should be a top priority for our Senator.

  • Senate Democrats: Walk out of Rex Tillerson's confirmation vote in protest of Muslim ban, refugee...
Yesterday, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Jummah—the holiest day of the week for Muslims—Donald Trump signed an executive order banning immigration from at least seven majority-Muslim countries and freezing the U.S.'s refugee program for at least 120 days. This week has been filled with terrible policy after terrible policy. To keep tally, Trump will: - Follow through on his promise to build a wall along the U.S. and Mexico border—and that U.S. taxpayers or consumers will probably pay for it. - Freeze the U.S. refugee program for 120 days, cut the current refugee quota by more than 50%, and take steps to initiate a "Muslim Ban"—targeting and banning immigration from upward of seven Muslim-majority countries. - Call for a brutal immigration crackdown, including a likely acceleration of mass deportations and an effort to cut funding for sanctuary cities. Amidst all of this, it's been Democratic mayors, attorneys general, and governors leading the way in standing up against these horrific policies. It's time for Senate Democrats to stop treating this like business as usual. These discriminatory, anti-Muslim, bigoted, and xenophobic policies have no place here and we need to know the officials we have elected will stand with the communities Trump is putting in danger. This is only the beginning. Many of these executive orders are Trump's attempt to normalize anti-Muslim and anti-Latino policies so that when he comes back with escalated policies, there won't be a way to stop them either. Muslim registries, deportations, and a repeal of DACA could be on the horizon. Considering Trump's mother was an immigrant, and that his wife is an immigrant, we know these executive actions are not simply attacks on immigrants—they are attempts to further marginalize communities of color and, specifically, Muslims and Latinos. Tell Senate Democrats it's time to take actions that are reflective of the danger communities of color will face under these policies. Tell them they must walk out of Rex Tillerson's confirmation vote.

  • Protect our 1st Amendment Right-Freedom of Press-Lift Ban on EPA
The office of the President is overstepping it's constitutional boundaries. Part of the 1st Amendment is the Freedom of the Press and right now Trumps administration chose to ignore the 1st Amendment when they silenced the EPA.
