6th Congressional District Representative Peter Roskam refuses to convene an in-person town hall meeting with his constituents. Instead, he only meets with select groups of constituents and/or donors whom he knows will not challenge his views or ask tough questions. 6th District constituents of all political persuasions have significant concerns to discuss with him, have a right to access Representative Roskam, and should not be shut out of the democratic process any longer.

UPDATE 11/27/17 The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is under attack. Last Friday, Director Richard Cordray stepped down. Following secession protocol that was set up by Congress, Deputy Director, Leandra English became the Acting Director. In an unprecedented move, Donald Trump appointed his own Acting Director of the CFPB, OMB Director, Mick Mulvaney. Now the bureau has TWO DIRECTORS and it is up to the courts to decide who will run the CFPB until a new permanent director is appointed and approved by Congress. We stand with Acting Director, Leandra English and applaud her for her years of dedication to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau fights for students and student loan borrowers. The CFPB has returned nearly $12 billion in relief to over 29 million Americans wronged by big banks, credit card companies, and predatory student loan servicers. Supporting students and student loan borrowers is central to The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s mission. For years, families dealt with the impact of a dangerously deregulated student loan industry. As a result, more than 43 Million Americans are buried under $1.4 Trillion worth of student debt. Unchecked student loan companies caused families major hardships forcing them to carry the burden of college costs for life. Fortunately, the CFPB is an independent federal agency dedicated to holding these companies accountable. The CFPB is the first line of defense for defrauded borrowers. Recently, the Bureau filed three lawsuits against Navient, the nation’s largest student loan servicer, accusing the corporate giant of countless abuses - including overcharging borrowers and ruining the credit scores of veterans. The CFPB also shut down illegal student debt relief companies and challenged the deceptive practices of for-profit colleges, like ITT Tech. To date, millions of dollars in relief have been returned to those impacted by these predatory businesses. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau continues to take important strides to defend students - we must do our part to defend the CFPB. We believe it is extremely important to level the playing field for ALL consumers. Student loan borrowers depend on the CFPB to ensure that their interests are defended against bad actors in the student loan industry. We urge Congress to oppose any efforts to weaken the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its critically important role and to reject any attempts to unseat their effective Acting Director, Leandra English who has been a powerful advocate for students and consumers everywhere. All Americans, including more than 43 million with student loans, must be able to count on a strong, independent Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

I am starting this petition so that we can have legal Cannabis in our state. To stop the Prohibition of Marijuana and allow us to move on with the medicines we need. Chronic pain is not a fantasy it is a reality and no one should have to live with pain.

Almost all cases of leaving children in cars are harmless, and parents sometimes face situations where they reasonably determine that having the child remain in the car is safe enough. The Rhode Island bill, H7071 and S2030, would make it a crime to leave a child under 7 in a car for over 15 minutes, even if the child was accompanied by a 13-year-old sibling. Penalties could include a $1000 fine or a 1-year jail sentence, even if the child was unharmed. This bill is too judgmental. Current Rhode Island law already says that police can issue a warning to parents in this situation, and that's better than having fines or criminal penalties for what are almost certainly harmless parenting choices.

We have been fighting this battle for 12 years. During that time, over $1 Trillion in student loan debt has been added to the citizenry, and millions of lives have been wrecked. The 3 main sources of federal tax revenue are individual income taxes, payroll taxes, and corporate income taxes. Almost half of all federal revenue comes from individual income taxes. The State of California contributes the highest amount of tax revenue to the federal government out of every state in the union. California is also one of the least dependent states for federal funding. California gives more than it receives. This is not a partisan issue as all citizens of California benefit from and are reliant upon federal funding. Please join us in protecting our funds from being confiscated by the federal government.

Dear Mr. President, Your Muslim ban punishes refugees who have employed more courage than most of us can possibly imagine. This includes a five year old boy who you had detained in a room without his parents for “extreme vetting." We the People demand “extreme vetting” of your tax returns. If “extreme vetting” is good enough for a five year old child to be kidnapped, it is a good enough for the President of the United States of America who issued such a kidnapping. Notably, your Muslim ban does not include countries whose governments or citizens have attacked us this century: 1) Russia (which just cyber attacked us), or 2) Saudi Arabia which is where the 9/11 hijackers came from? We do not advocate for a ban on any refugees but we are concerned that you are favoring specific countries due to your personal financial interests. After all, We the People are your boss and you said the same thing when you repeatedly demanded that President Barack Obama show you his birth certificate. The Constitution suffers when politicians refuse to do their constitutional duties. We are all going to be affected by the treachery of Senate Republicans in not putting Merrick Garland to a vote last year. Garland's name, to my knowledge, has never been withdrawn from consideration, so why not vote for him as a protest?

He literally doesn't know how the three branches of government work.
