Boycott the inaugurationOn Friday, civil rights hero and longtime congressman John Lewis, who organized the March on Washington as a student and whose skull was broken by police as he crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge, called Trump's election illegitimate and said we would not attend the inauguration. Predictably, Donald Trump attacked Rep. Lewis. And since then, in the past 24 hours, the number of Congress members who have said they'd join Representative Lewis and skip the inauguration has grown to nearly twenty. Thank you Representatives Blumenauer and Schrader for joining them! "It will be the first one that I miss since I've been in Congress," Lewis said. "You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong, is not right." Rep. Lewis has said that he cannot see Trump as a "legitimate president" because of the now widely understood effort of Russia to influence November's election on behalf of Trump. Every member of Congress has a choice: stand with Rep. Lewis or stand with Trump. Sign the petition—tell your members of Congress to skip the inauguration. Rep. Lewis has shown yet again that when a leader takes a courageous action, others follow. If more members of Congress join Rep. Lewis and skip the inauguration, we can strengthen the power of the opposition. Thank you Representatives Blumenauer and Schrader for standing strong and boycotting Trump's inauguration. Let's join them and show the power of the opposition movement. Democratic lawmakers must boycott Trump's inauguration lest they normalize and legitimize an unhinged demagogue who's an abject threat to our nation.284 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Mary Peveto

Senate Intelligence Committee: Subpoena Trump's tax returns!"When the president does it, that means it is not illegal." This infamous quote, which ultimately brought down Nixon's presidency, seems to be Trump's justification for refusing the financial disclosures expected of any holder of higher office. Trump has so far refused to release his taxes, divest himself from his businesses, and disclose his financial entanglements and debts he has all over the world. The bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee is probing into the involvement of Russian intelligence agencies in the 2016 election, including possible illegal ties between Russia and Trump's team. We must urge the investigating panel to subpoena Trump's tax returns to check if Trump is beholden to any foreign entity. The Senate Intelligence Committee stated that it would use "subpoenas if necessary". Now that the Trump administration has taken over the national intelligence agencies, it is more urgent than ever that his tax returns are released because: 1. Trump's tax returns will confirm the nature of his financial ties with Russia; 2. They will reveal Trump's conflicts of interest and possible violations of the emoluments clause of the Constitution; 3. The investigating panel has the legal grounds now to demand that Trump release his tax returns, as all requests from an ethical and moral standpoint were willfully ignored. Let's put a stop to all the lies, spins, diversions, and excuses spouted by the Trump regime and concentrate on how we can hold him accountable by demanding the subpoena and release of his tax returns. Please sign this petition and share the link.2,262 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by TC Lee

Stop Intimidation of Ethics Director Holding Trump AccountableThe Office of Government Ethics is a nonpartisan ethics office that has served presidents for the last 4 decades to help ensure a high level of integrity in the president, cabinet members and all appointees. Crack Down on False Health Food AdvertisingWhen you see some food in the store labeled as promoting good health, you'd think -- of course -- that the product would be good for your health. That's not necessarily true. The government does have some standards for how companies can claim health benefits, but those are mostly focused on fat and salt. What about sugar or artificial ingredients? You're on your own to figure that out. Science now recognizes the role that sugar plays in a variety of health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and heart and liver disease. But health food shouldn't just be about avoiding bad substances -- it should be nutritious too. Tell the Food & Drug Administration that you expect health food marketing to be honest and to promote good nutrition.377 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Alexander Rony, SierraRise

Defeat the House GOP's retaliatory politicsThe House of Representatives just revived an extreme measure to slash the salaries of federal employees they don't like to just $1 per year. The implications of this ability are vast -- and horrifying. A radical politician can effectively fire someone who works on a program they don't personally agree with -- like, say, climate science, ethics investigations, or environmental standards. This rule could inject electoral politics into everything the government does. The president could even use this rule to encourage his allies to purge the federal workforce of non-loyalists. Members of both parties have expressed outrage -- there is a likely majority in the House if it came up for a full, public vote. Public pressure convinced congressional Republicans to drop their attack on independent ethics oversight -- it can put an end this shocking rule too.522 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Alexander Rony, SierraRise

Skip Trump's InaugurationOn Friday, civil rights hero and longtime congressman John Lewis—an original Freedom Rider who was one of the organizers of the 1963 March on Washington as a student, and whose skull was fractured by police as he led the 1965 March from Selma to Montgomery across the Edmund Pettus Bridge—said Trump's election was "not legitimate" and that he would not attend the inauguration. Predictably, Donald Trump attacked Rep. Lewis, calling a leader who helped end segregation "all talk, talk, talk - no action or results." And since then, in the past 24 hours, the number of Congress members who have said they'd skip the inauguration has grown to two dozen. "It will be the first one that I miss since I've been in Congress," Lewis said. "You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong." Rep. Lewis has said that he cannot see Trump as a "legitimate president" because of the now widely understood effort of Russia to influence November's election on behalf of Trump. Every member of Congress has a choice: stand with Rep. Lewis or stand with Trump. Rep. Lewis has shown yet again that when a leader takes a courageous action, others follow. If more members of Congress join Rep. Lewis and skip the inauguration, we can strengthen the power of the opposition. Our friends at CREDO Action have said this is no time for decorum and have called on all Democrats to skip Trump's inauguration. Let's join them and show the power of the opposition movement. Current and past Democratic lawmakers must skip Trump's inauguration lest they normalize and legitimize an unhinged demagogue who's an abject threat to our nation.2,888 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Victoria Kaplan

No Tax Returns, No Confirmation Votes!By Election Day 2016, it had become painfully obvious that Donald Trump was hiding something in his tax returns. The less troubling possibilities were troubling enough: that he had lied to the American people about his degree of business success, or that he had exploited tax loopholes that, while technically legal, would strike most Americans as improper. But there are growing reasons to be concerned about darker possibilities: corrupt business practices that would make Trump vulnerable to blackmail by anyone who knew the truth, or financial ties to foreign governments that would amount to taking bribes once Trump took office. Many members of the cabinet, and other political appointees (such as heads of independent agencies) wield significant power. Furthermore, in the case of lower-ranking political appointees, Federal law allows the President to reappoint them to higher positions in an acting capacity once confirmed by the Senate to the first position. Therefore, it is dangerous for the Senate to confirm any appointee who may have been chosen for improper reasons. Many of Trump's nominees would arguably stand a good chance of being reappointed by Trump's successor were he to resign or be removed from office with their appointments still pending. However, even with Trump's less-controversial nominees, it would be deeply embarrassing for the Senate to have rushed their confirmations, if the worst suspicions about Trump ultimately proved true. Offering Trump an ultimatum will provide Trump with a powerful incentive to resolve these questions as quickly as possible. So for the sake of the country, and the dignity of the Senate, we ask you: tell Trump you will not vote to confirm any of his political appointees until he lets the American people know the truth.347 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Christopher Brennan

Boycott Trump's InaugurationDonald Trump is a threat to our nation. And any politician who attends Trump's inauguration is normalizing and legitimizing a presidency that should only be resisted. Denounced. Defied. Boycotted. Thankfully, on the eve of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday weekend, Congressman John Lewis has announced that he will not attend Trump's swearing-in ceremony. Trump's response has been to launch a fierce attack against Lewis, accusing the congressman—who has served our nation as a tireless leader of the civil rights movement and for 16 terms in Congress—of being “all talk, talk, talk - no action or results.” This is Trump’s latest, vicious outburst in what’s become a terrifying pattern of using outright lies and insults to bully and subdue his critics. But this time, Trump's well-worn tactic is falling flat. Not only is Congressman Lewis standing strong, more than two dozen other members of Congress are standing with him in a growing Inauguration Day boycott of demagogue-in-chief Trump. Congressman Lewis says he cannot view Trump’s presidency as legitimate because of a now widely understood Russian effort to influence November’s election. Congresswoman Barbara Lee has cited Trump’s “divisive and prejudiced campaign.” Congressman Luis Gutierrez referred to Trump’s attacks on women, communities of color, and Muslims. Congressman Ted Lieu noted that Trump will be in violation of the Constitution the moment he’s sworn in, due to numerous alleged conflicts of interest. In also choosing to skip Trump's inauguration, other members of Congress have cited Trump's threats to immigrant rights, the environment, national security, and more. And about Congressman Lewis, who has helped spark this growing boycott, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke said it best: "When you insult Representative John Lewis, you insult America." Congressman Lewis has shown yet again that when a leader takes a courageous action, others follow. If more members of Congress join him and skip the inauguration, we can strengthen the power of the opposition. Democratic lawmakers past and present have a choice to make. Help make sure they stand on the right side of history with—with Congressman John Lewis, not Donald Trump—by signing and sharing this petition with your family and friends.109,741 of 200,000 SignaturesCreated by Jo Comerford
