Developers are proposing new market rate apartments at 2902 Adeline, threatening to increase neighborhood rents, exacerbate parking and traffic problems, and continue the ongoing process of gentrification and displacement in the Bay Area. If our neighborhood is to be developed, the community demands that these negative impacts be mitigated. Through a community-led process involving over 300 people, local residents developed these six demands and sent them to the developers on August 12, 2016. We requested but did not receive a response from the developers within 30 days.

Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and 18 officials of the opposition United Democratic Party of The Gambia; Momodou Sanneh, Lamin Dibba, Kemeseng Jammeh, Femi Peters, Fakebba Colley, Lamin Jatta, Junkunda Suso, Lamin Ceesay, Tapha Makalo, Fanta Darboe, Amadou Sawo, Kebba Khan, Fatmatta Jawara, Fatou Camara, Nogoi Njie, and more, have been sentenced to three years in the notorious Mile Two Prison for engaging in a peaceful demonstration. They were demanding the body of Ebrima Solo Sandeng, a UDP official murdered in government custody for leading a peaceful protest for electoral reforms, and the release of the other protesters tortured by government agents. Some of the women were beaten, raped, and locked up with serious life threatening injuries. Instead of respecting the constitutional rights of the UDP officials and activists, the government, on April 16, got them arrested and had them on trial in a kangaroo court. We are deeply troubled by their convictions. Most of the officials are elderly men over 65 years, and some of the women are mothers with young children. Already another UDP member, Ebrima Solo Krummah, died in custody without official explanation. These were not isolated incidents. Rather, they fit into a disturbing pattern of Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year iron-fist rule. In the words of Amnesty International, they are part of a "continuing downward spiral for human rights in The Gambia.” And according to Human Rights Watch, “Sandeng’s senseless death in custody appears to be the latest in a long line of abuses against the political opposition in Gambia. …This case heightens concerns that the Gambian government will intensify its crackdown on independent voices ahead of elections in December.” In recent months, for instance, he summarily fired and detained dozens of senior officials, including Sarjo Jallow, a veteran Foreign Ministry official, at the notorious National Intelligence Agency headquarters. They are still not charged with any crime or released, in clear violation of the Constitution. The UDP is the largest opposition party in The Gambia. And Lawyer Darboe is a popular opposition figure and prominent human rights attorney. Yahya Jammeh perceives him and his party as a threat. Hence, the clampdowns, arrests, abductions, detentions, sham trials, and murder. The Cancer Drug Coverage Parity Act Outdated Medicare Plan B coverage policies Traditionally, IV chemotherapy treatments are covered under a Medicare Plan B plan benefit. Conversely, oral anticancer medications are covered under Medicare's plan D prescription benefit and retired cancer patients are responsible for extremely high and unmanageable copays, creating an enormous barrier for patients to access orally administered drugs and lifesaving treatments for cancer patients Medicare plan B should provide coverage for orally administered cancer treatment medications at the same rate as IV or injectable cancer treatment. A patient, especially a disabled or retired patient, should not be made to pay any more out of pocket for their oral cancer medications then they are asked to pay for their injectable or infusional cancer medications. A national oral chemotherapy access law is important, because it would offer protection to all insured patients, including those with Medicare coverage who comprise a large portion of patients with cancer. Right now, the state laws only apply to privately insured patients. If a federal law was passed it would apply equally to everyone. The current Medicare Plan B covers IV chemotherapy, but oral chemotherapy isn't covered. As a result, people are out of pocket double and triple their SS income and still unable to afford the oral chemotherapy medications they so desperately need. We do not need the plan D with high level tiers, which are still unaffordable, to fill this gap, but rather the federal backing and passing of a chemotherapy oral drug parity law that would include compliance by Medicare plan B. Chemotherapy oral drugs should be covered under Medicare plan B for the wellbeing of every American. Currently, state laws can only impact certain health plans and do not apply to Medicare or Medicaid. Health plans covered under the federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) While orally administered anti-cancer drugs are not without side effects, equal access to these drugs can alleviate suffering and improve outcomes for many cancer patients. Oral Parity increases access to oral chemotherapies, helping patients and saving lives. Provides greater access to life-saving treatments: Drug coverage is one of the top problems for cancer patients. The disparity in coverage between intravenous/injectable treatments and orally administered anti-cancer pills further complicates this problem. Cancer patients should not have to wage a fight on coverage for a treatment.

Blizzard has recently enabled players in World of Warcraft to more easily file a complaint about guild names that they supposedly find offensive. Because of our server choice (Proudmoore), our long history and relative infamy as the largest LGBT gaming group, we've historically been targeted as having an offensive guild name, often by the same person or persons. This is confusing, since Blizzard uses the word 'taint' in lore, quest titles and more. Years ago, a Blizzard executive recognized this social dynamic and allowed RTGC/Taint to maintain the name we are globally recognized, both in WoW and in other games. We've recently been the subject, with the easier reporting tools, of increased "report and rename" attacks, and Blizzard GMs, unable or unwilling to abide by the earlier ruling, rescinded and is currently forcing a rename across ALL the guilds under the related TAINT banner. I believe whistle-blowers should be protected, not punished. Chelsea gave Wikileaks the "Collateral Murder" video showing two unarmed journalists being killed and the video of the "Granai massacre", which showed US troops killing 86 to 147 civilians, most of whom were children. Chelsea, as a transgender, has been punished excessively. She was given solitary confinement after a suicide attempt. Access to the gym, library or outdoors has been taken away for having a prohibited book and misuse of medicine, i.e., she had a copy of Vanity Fair and an expired tube of toothpaste. She has suffered enough and should be pardoned.

We are tired of the corruption in our politics. We need to do what we can in the streets and online to return control of the government to the people where it belongs.

This was supposed to be the year that a woman was finally elected to run the United Nations, after seven decades of men at the helm of the world’s foremost diplomatic organization. Having a woman secretary-general matters because so many of the issues the occupant of the office focuses on – development, education, health, among them – are areas where women hold the keys to progress, many global development experts say. And several of the women candidates were widely considered to be among the most qualified in the field of 12. But it looks like the old-boy system is pushing back against them! As Melissa Labonte, a professor of political science at New York’s Fordham University and an expert in UN issues says, "The pool of female candidates included some of the most competent women we’ve seen on the world stage, so I’m befuddled as to why they haven’t been ranked more highly, [but] either these women are being judged by a different standard, or we're seeing that the patriarchy of the UN system is alive and well.” Please sign this petition and forward it to everyone you know who wants our UN to be led by a highly qualified woman for a change!!!

Wisconsin’s discriminatory voter ID law has already caused chaos at polling places during the primary election with confusing and restrictive requirements. Now, in violation of a mandated court order, the state is "systematically denying" registered voters the specific documentation they’ll need to vote. The result? Thousands of Wisconsin voters - mostly Black and low income - will be disenfranchised due to needless barriers on the right to vote. In August, a federal judge ruled that “Wisconsin may adopt a strict voter ID system only if that system has a well-functioning safety net,” ordering the state to provide valid ID promptly and free of charge to any eligible voter who requested one. We’ve already seen other states, like Alabama, put up obstacles for voters trying to comply with voter ID requirements. Now, a new report in The Nation magazine reveals how Wisconsin is making eligible voters jump through needless and costly hoops to get the ID they’ll need to vote. Voter ID laws are already controversial for their disproportionate impact on poor voters and voters of color. Now, it’ll be even harder for the nine percent of registered Wisconsin voters without required ID to get the documentation they’ll need to vote this November. Voting is our greatest right and responsibility, and every American deserves to make their voice heard at the polls. If Wisconsin can’t make sure that every eligible voter has an ID, then they have no business requiring it to vote.
