• Raise the Wage, West Hollywood
We are the West Hollywood Action Committee (WHAC), and we are here to inform you of an up and coming action by the West Hollywood City Council to discuss raising the minimum wage to $15 during the next meeting on Monday the 21st at 6:30 P.M. Like you, we believe current starvation wages are unacceptable in our prosperous, progressive city and pledge to ensure that our business community affords its workers a livable wage in an expedient time frame as unsustainable income inequality is increasing. As you know, a growing movement to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour has found victories in communities throughout the United States, and the results have been positive. It is long overdue for West Hollywood to join this movement. Our own Mayor Lindsey Horvath, along with Councilmember John Heilman, were elected after successfully campaigning for a liveable wage. While it’s clear our community is supportive, we’re left with three other council members as undecided voters. We need your help to convince them to join cities across the country in adopting a living wage before the Council meeting this Monday, the 21st. West Hollywood prides itself on being a location where ‘we can live, work, and play’. In the attempt to deny a livable wage, our community makes the “live” part of that slogan an unobtainable goal. Your support of low-wage workers will directly impact us all. The irony of this discussions’ timing in Women’s History Month should not be overlooked. Women have been the most exploited and hit hardest by the failure of the business community to care for their workers. March 25th marks the 105th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, where a majority of female factory workers lost their lives from a horrendous accident caused by dangerous working conditions. International Women’s Day, March 8th, was originally a call to action by women workers to demand progress in the workplace. Almost 150 years later, we stand on the shoulders of giants and continue working towards this reality. If you agree that West Hollywood deserves to be a city that provides a livable wage to all our workers and encourages economic diversity, then we need you to get active as City Council will soon be making their own decision. Public statements will directly impact this issue -- your participation in the conversation as a supporter is critical. Join us at the West Hollywood City Council meeting on Monday, March 21st, at 6:30 PM and please write or call the City Council members directly through their contact information. We are available to assist in letter writing or crafting a public statement of support. If you would like to sign on as an organization or business, please let us know! Thank you for your support and action on this issue. For a diverse and inclusive West Hollywood, West Hollywood Action Committee [email protected] Keep up-to-date with this and other issues in West Hollywood on Facebook.

  • Bill Bryant Needs To Dump Trump!
Nationally, numerous Republicans--from the governor of Massachusetts to a Senator from Nebraska and many more in between--have pledged that they will not support Donald Trump if he is the nominee for the Republican Party. We need to know that our Republican candidate for governor here in Washington does not support the racism, bigotry, and awful ideas of Donald Trump.

  • Maryland Assembly: Enact a Strong and Inclusive Automatic Voter Registration Law
This week, the Maryland General Assembly is moving forward on legislation that would allow state agencies to use information that they already collect—age, address, and other relevant data—to determine whether individuals are eligible to vote and then add them to the voter rolls unless they decline to be registered. The potential impact on the electorate is huge: over 500,000 new voters could be added to the voter rolls, making it easier for them to participate in the electoral process. Only a few weeks are left to ensure that Maryland lawmakers put forth the strongest Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) program possible. There are a few different models being debated, and we are urging legislators to have the courage to adopt the model that is most expansive and inclusive, especially for those groups of eligible voters most often unaccounted for young people, lower-income people, and people of color. Maryland’s voting system is currently outdated, leaving over half a million residents voiceless during each election cycle. This session, Maryland can make it clear that the right to vote, much like the right to free speech, should have no impediment. With a comprehensive AVR system, Marylanders would enjoy a modernized process that saves money, is secure and accurate, and protects the fundamental right of every eligible citizen to participate in our democracy.

  • Driver's Licenses Regardless of Immigration Status: Pass Bill H7610
HB7610 would allow undocumented immigrants in Rhode Island to apply for driver's licenses. On Tuesday March 15th, more than one hundred Rhode Islanders rallied at the state house in support of House Bill 7610 during its hearing in the Judiciary Committee. Despite overwhelming community support, legislators chose not to make a recommendation of passage, recommending instead that the bill be held for further study. We demand that the members and chair of the Judiciary Committee recommend HB7610 for passage immediately. Not only would the bill benefit undocumented and mixed-status families, but it would create safer roads for all residents of RI. Over 10 other states (including Vermont and Connecticut) have already passed similar legislation. Undocumented immigrants contribute millions in taxes to the state of Rhode Island every year and deserve the right to safe mobility. See the bill here: http://webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/BillText/BillText16/HouseText16/H7610.pdf For more information: https://www.facebook.com/efa.comiteenaccion/ La propuesta de ley HB7610 otorgaría licencias de conducir a personas indocumentadas en Rhode Island. • .@SenatorKirk: Press for @SCOTUSnom Vote on Judge Garland
President Obama has nominated Merrick Garland, now Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. [1] Judge Garland was the valedictorian of his class at Niles West High School. [2] But so far, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Republican Senate Judiciary chair Chuck Grassley insist that the Senate will not consider Judge Garland's nomination. Illinois Republican Senator Mark Kirk has said that he will meet with Judge Garland. [3] But as Judge Garland's home state Republican Senator, we in Illinois need Mark Kirk to do more. We need Mark Kirk to press his own Republican leaders for a debate and vote on Judge Garland's nomination. Urge Mark Kirk to press Republican leaders for a debate and vote on Judge Garland's nomination by signing our petition. 1. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/17/us/politics/obama-supreme-court-nominee.html 2. http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/supreme-court-nominees-prom-date-canoeing-misadventure-more/ 3. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/republicans-scotus-nom-flake-inhofe-kirk-ayotte

  • Bernie Sanders to submit Letters of Intent for Write-in Votes
With voter suppression, firewall issues, DNC chair issues, super delegate promises, and the media blackout all taken into consideration, Bernie Sanders should be far ahead of his opponent in the delegate count. He needs to know that we believe he is our only hope. Our two-party system is failing the common American and Bernie Sanders is our only hope. "Currently, 43 States allow Write-In Ballots for President of the United States. States not allowing write-in ballots include; Arkansas, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota Most States require a candidate to register, however; Vermont, Wyoming, Oregon, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Iowa, Delaware, and Alabama do not require registration." http://m.dailykos.com/story/2015/7/21/1404380/-The-Write-In-Vote "Thirty-five states require that a write-in candidate must submit some form of affidavit and, sometimes, a filing fee at least one month before the election. In North Carolina, these candidates must circulate a petition. Then their names are posted on a list at the polling place, though not on the official ballot. All other write-in votes are tossed." ~Bloomberg http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2004-11-01/the-ins-and-outs-of-write-ins

  • Disbar Hatch & Lee
Every member of the Utah Bar Association is required to take the following oath: "I do solemnly swear that I will support, obey and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Utah; that I will discharge the duties of attorney and counselor at law as an officer of the courts of this State with honesty, fidelity, professionalism, and civility; and that I will faithfully observe the Rules of Professional Conduct and the Standards of Professionalism and Civility promulgated by the Supreme Court of the State of Utah." Both of these Senators are putting partisan politics ahead of obeying and defending the Constitution of the United States by refusing to give advice and consent to the President's nomination to the Supreme Court. They should be disbarred for failing to adhere to their oath as attorneys.

  • End Election Corruption
We need to stop all these forms of cheating during an election. IF they won't stop we demand a that the votes are thrown out & done all over again or the cheater loses all delegates. That goes from, not enough ballots, to disenfranchising in any form to stumping at the polls. This also includes bias that either party's committee has toward one candidate over another.
