  • Stop attacking Elizabeth Warren and the CFPB
The head of the Democratic Party, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is trying to hamstring Elizabeth Warren's signature initiative--and throwing women under the bus in the process. She is cosponsoring a bill that would pave the way for payday lenders to rip off women for years to come. Even worse, she's rallying other Democrats to join her in advancing the bill. Payday lenders exploit poor people, especially women and people of color, with enormous fees and interest rates. They're a huge reason that Senator Elizabeth Warren and President Obama created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). If Rep. Wasserman Schultz's bill goes into effect, it'll be at least two more years before the CFPB can start reigning in some of the worst payday lenders. But the backlash is growing, and if enough of us pile on, she'll have to abandon the bill. Will you add your name?

  • Congress: Peace Now vs. AIPAC - Which Side Are You On?
Americans for Peace Now - the US affiliate of the mainstream Israeli peace movement Shalom Achshav (Peace Now) - is calling for President Obama to support action in the United Nations Security Council to help bring about a diplomatic resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict. [1] This is common sense: when the big powers want to resolve conflicts diplomatically, the United Nations Security Council is where they go to do it. That's how we got a diplomatic agreement on Iran's nuclear program; that's how we got a diplomatic agreement for a ceasefire in Syria. Unfortunately, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee [AIPAC] is lobbying Congress in the opposite direction, urging its activists to "encourage your senators and representative to oppose efforts to bring the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the U.N. and other international bodies." AIPAC doesn't want the UN Security Council to take any action because AIPAC doesn't want the Israel-Palestine conflict to be resolved diplomatically. AIPAC wants to maintain the cruel and unjust status quo, which is guaranteed to produce more violence and unnecessary suffering for Israelis and Palestinians. Urge Congress to stand with Americans for Peace Now in favor of a diplomatic resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict by signing our petition. References: 1. http://peacenow.org/entry.php?id=17702

  • Carnival Cruises allows the Castros to ban Cuban Americans from traveling to Cuba on Carnival
We cannot allow a foreign government to discriminate against Americans in their own country. Although they are targeting Cuban-Americans, Cuban-Americans are Americans like all other Americans who are not being banned from travelling to Cuba via ships. • STOP: Gilead Sciences Price-Gouging Hepatitis C Patients
Hepatitis C nearly killed me. In 2014, I received a liver transplant. I was fortunate to have an insurance plan that paid for all of my related healthcare, as well as the Sovaldi-based medicine that cured my HCV infection. Over 3 million Americans are infected, most of them unable to afford Gilead Sciences $1,000 per pill price.

  • Remove North Carolina's HB2 bill
In early April, Paypal decided not to move into Mississippi because of their new bill. New York has been stoping business with them. If this keeps up then more and more companies will follow and lose interest in dealing business with North Carolina. MLK fought for equality for everyone, but in today world we have anything that. We need to stand together and fight this bill, to the Supreme Court if needed. As Americans, it is our duty to stand up for what is right, and this is far from right. When women fought for the right to vote, many (conservatives) people did not think that women should have same rights as men, but never the less they fought and won. When MLK wanted equality for African Americans he fought, and won. All America has known is fighting; fighting for freedom, fighting for equality, fighting to save others from a worldwide treat. We have fought for so many years now, but now we need to fight again. I know the world's not perfect and will always have some problems but we become part of that problem when we do nothing to fix it. I ask you, America, please, don't become part of this problem. Help change this nation for the better and sign to remove House Bill H2.

  • Tell Congress: It's time for equal pay for equal work
Before I was elected to the Oregon Legislature, I worked in the tech sector – an industry that is dominated by men and often criticized for wage discrepancy among employees based on their gender. But unequal pay isn’t just a problem in the tech sector. In most industries women are paid less than their male coworkers. Today is Equal Pay Day, a symbol of the length of time women would have to work into the next year to make the same amount of money as their male counterparts. For women of color, the wage gap is even greater than the often quoted 79 cents on the dollar. In 2015, I took action on these discrepancies and championed legislation that would expand Oregon’s equal pay law, increase wage transparency, and protect employees from retaliation – a critical reform that empowers works to seek better pay. But we’re not done. I’m calling on Congress to do more to make it equal – and I hope you’ll join me. Sign the petition: Tell Congress that it’s time for equal pay for equal work. Let’s build momentum to take this important step for equality. Join me today.
