• Tell WV Lawmakers to Invest in Alternatives to Institutionalizing Youth
West Virginia has one of highest rates of institutionalizing and incarcerating children in the country. Thanks to your support, we stopped the opening of the Dazzy Vance Mountain Resort, a for-profit institution designed to confine children as young as four who suffer from mental health issues. Now we need your support to pass legislation to require West Virginia to invest in effect community-based alternatives to incarceration. Unfortunately, for too many of West Virginia’s children and families who need services, the juvenile justice system is the first stop rather than a last resort. Because community-based services are not available in most West Virginia's communities, courts and state agencies unnecessarily over-rely on the juvenile justice system. West Virginia should redirect money to community programs such as wraparound services, counseling and mentoring that have proven effective in helping children with mental health or behavioral issues. These programs can successfully serve three to four youth in the community for the cost of confining one youth in an institution.

  • Fix Democracy in Virginia
I'm a local Virginia resident who is concerned about the amount of fossil fuel money in Virginia politics. I believe we should be skeptical of off-shore drilling in the Atlantic, and in order to have our Representatives truly represent the Virginian people, they cannot be taking money from fossil fuel companies.

  • Stand with @ChrisMurphyCT: End Aid to Saudi War in Yemen
Sen. Chris Murphy [D-CT] has called for the U.S. to end its military involvement in the Saudi war in Yemen. "I just don't see any evidence right now that the Saudis are conducting that military exercise in a way that's responsible. It's just feeding the humanitarian crisis inside Yemen," Senator Murphy said. [1] The Saudi war in Yemen has already killed thousands of civilians; the UN has said Saudi targeting of civilians in Yemen with air strikes may constitute crimes against humanity. Human Rights Watch has called on the U.S. to halt all transfer of arms to Saudi Arabia that might be used in violations of international law. [2] Urge the Senate to stand with Senator Murphy in calling for the end of U.S. military involvement in the Saudi war in Yemen by signing our petition. • Kansas 2 Earthquakes & Fracking Need to Stop
We should all be enraged by the injustice of being hammered by the fracking industry and the Legislature. This Legislature has simply turned its back on the citizens of Kansas. We are experiencing living in a state where the rights, property values, and fears of citizens in the fracking zones are ignored. Why? Because you and I are not as important to the Legislature as the fracking industry. I am one of the victims of these earthquakes. My house has $14,000 worth of damage so far! My basement floor is cracked, my foundation has slipped, my walls are cracked and it is getting worse with every new quake. I got one side of my foundation repaired but I am not repairing anything else. As long as the quakes are still happening I won't keep throwing my hard earned money at repairs though there is still much more left to fix. The Kansas Corporation Commission has the power to fix this problem. Any comments you leave will go to straight to Commissioners Apple, Albrecht & Emler and to Governor Brownback.

  • GOP: Respond to the Zika virus by supporting access to universal contraception
Right now millions of American women don't know whether it would be healthy to become pregnant with the spread of the Zika virus—and they deserve to have the ability to delay a healthy pregnancy. Without universal access to contraception, women lack a critical tool for planning a healthy pregnancy. Yet GOP members of Congress have attacked universal contraceptive coverage in the past. Politicians and lawmakers must put public health *above* partisan ideology and take action to protect the health and safety of women and families across our country.

  • Challenge to Members of U. S. Congress: Join the Fight Against Government Corruption
This issue should concern all Americans. Getting moneyed interests out of our election process is the only way that we will ever be able to have fair elections. When elections are bought, it hurts everyone except those who bought them and those who sold them. We must fight back.

While this Bill does not directly affect me, that matters none. Nor does it matter that this current legislation is not about Race, or perhaps your state. What's important is that no American, including Gay or Straight, should ever be denied a Right to Live and Love as he or she desires. Also remember, Slippery Slopes move from state to state, group to group. This is a time for healing, for growing as a Nation of Peoples, coming together as one. #Americans. We are a better People than how our "Representatives" have thus far demonstrated to the world. But, until you and I band together and move our country past all the nonsense coming from long-lost eras, we will not live free! Live now, in this moment. We will do it together. • TIme to file suit against the Iowa Dem. party. They are denying critical access that could change...
We fought our hearts out to win in Iowa. Documented mistakes and fraud (not speculation) show that Bernie Sanders is most likely the actual winner in Iowa. In Grinnell Ward 1, One of Bernie Sanders delegates was switched to Hillary Clinton by the Democratic headquarters. Precinct secretary J Pablo Silva discovered that this happened the next day, when checking the precinct results in other parts of the county. ~ The Guardian 2/5/16 How many times did that happen? Iowa Dem. Chair Andy McGuire won't let our people check the data. We played nice. We can't let them get away with this or it will continue! It is time the Sanders campaign sued for access to all official paper records at the precinct level. Especially the tallies before they were entered Monday night into the computer application. In solidarity, Heidi Strand Bernie Sanders 2016!

I am one of approximately 20 million people who live within a 50 mile radius of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. Having a 42 inch natural gas pipeline run within 105 feet of Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant is a recipe for disaster. The possibility of a gas pipeline rupture within 105 feet of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant is not a risk that our elected officials should ask us to take.

  • Appeal for UN election observers to oversee the United States elections of 2016
At every election tensions increase and accusations of fraud abound. The possibility that at some point in the near future this mistrust will erupt into violence appears more likely than ever during this cycle. To alleviate this, and to ensure that our nation's government remains one that is of the people, by the people, and especially for the people, we need reassurance that every citizen has the opportunity to vote and that every vote is counted.
