To Protect #IranDeal, Keep @JohnKerry as Secretary of StateThanks to the diplomatic efforts of Secretary of State John Kerry, Iran's nuclear program has been sharply curtailed and has been made much more transparent and accountable to the international community. [1] Thanks to the diplomacy of John Kerry, 10 U.S. sailors who accidentally strayed into Iranian waters were released from Iranian custody within 24 hours. [2] Thanks to the diplomacy of John Kerry, five Americans previously imprisoned by Iran have been released. [3] These achievements were made possible in part by the relationships that Kerry built with Iranian officials over years of negotiations and diplomacy. In a year, the United States will have a new President. Some politicians want to tear up the nuclear agreement with Iran; some politicians want the nuclear agreement to be the end of diplomacy with Iran, and want to escalate confrontation with Iran on other fronts, thereby attacking the Iran deal indirectly; some politicians want to keep going with the diplomatic opening to Iran and see what else can be achieved. When President Obama was first inaugurated, he kept Robert Gates as Defense Secretary to help ensure continuity in our Iraq and Afghanistan policies. The next President should keep John Kerry as Secretary of State to ensure continuity in our Iran policies. Pressing politicians to declare on whether John Kerry should stay as Secretary of State will clarify where they stand on diplomacy with Iran. Urge Washington politicians to declare that they support keeping John Kerry as Secretary of State to protect the #IranDeal by signing our petition. 1. https://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/foreign-policy/iran-deal 2. http://thehill.com/policy/national-security/265730-kerry-thanks-iran-for-care-of-us-sailors 3. http://www.msnbc.com/mtp-daily/watch/iran-releases-five-u-s-prisoners-6039480995906,545 of 7,000 SignaturesCreated by Robert Naiman

#NoTrustInKeepseagleKeepseagle Class Action Lawsuit was a discrimination case against the US Department of Agriculture settled for $760 Million for Native American Farmers. $380 Million remains unpaid out. It should go directly to Native American Farmers and NOT indirectly through "newly formed" Nonprofits (not meeting the original Cy Pres requirements of having served class members prior to the settlement) and Universities for Agricultural Programs and Service workshops and seminars. Thousands of Native American Farmers were denied and continue to be denied an opportunity to participate due to lack of/poor outreach and Federal policies which fail to fully recognize and provide programs & services to State Recognized and Non-Federally Recognized Tribes . Pay the Farmers NOT Nonprofits! #NoTrustInKeepseagle #TellJoeNo #PayTheFarmers I have been contacted by Ms. Beverly Collins Hall (American Indian Mothers) who represents 30 prevailing claimants, as well as 1000's of denied claimants and potential claimants to provide advocacy and outreach to Native American Farmers in North Carolina and Nationwide because they have been done a great disservice by the US Department of Agriculture and Keepeagle Class Counsel. Too many (thousands) of Native American Farmers (as defined in the Keepseagle class action lawsuit who do not meant the eligibility criteria as established and defined as "Native American Farmers" according to the USDA Office of Tribal Relations thus the discrimination at USDA continues) who have been left behind and left out of the Keepseagle Settlement process. It took an Act of Congress for Black Farmers who were denied an opportunity to participate in the Black Farmers case hence there was a Black Farmers Late Filers (2nd round) claims process which compensated over 17,000 additional Black Farmers . Unlike the Black Farmers case, Keepseagle has $380 million leftover so funds remain available and there should be a Keepseagle II not requiring an Act of Congress or additional funding. Native American Farmers are still losing land/farms and struggling to be competitive. Please help us tell Keepeagle Class Counsel Joe Sellers and U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan - Keepseagle for Farmers NOT Nonprofits! We don't need Trustees!!!32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kara boyd

Protecting America's Water Infrastructure: Resolving the crisis in Flint and other communities in...I am starting this petition because I am afraid of the adverse effects that the corrosive water may have upon the people of Flint. Although the media has generated attention to this matter, the actions that have been performed thus far seem only to serve as a short-term solution to a catastrophic problem. The people of Flint will continue to live out the adverse effects of this crisis for many years to come, and someone must stand with them in advocating for real solutions.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Catrina Turner

Reverse law makingMichigan's governor, legislature exempt from FOIAThe Flint water crisis has once again drawn this law's fatal flaw into the spotlight. What good is a Freedom of Information act if the very arms of government that often need investigating the most are protected from any form of legitimate recourse to find out "who knew it, and when did they know it?" A CEO I knew once said, 'if a policy is stupid, send me a memo with the subject line of "this is stupid." Well, let's send both the governor and our legislature a "this is stupid" memo that will resound through the halls of Lansing so loudly, they'll have no choice but to change it.115 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Bill Semion

Avoid a humanitarian crisis. Allow Puerto Rico to restructure its debtPuerto Rico's $72 billion public debt crisis has forced congressional leaders to pay attention to a U.S. territory that's usually on the sidelines of American politics. The island has been mired in economic stagnation for nearly a decade. The governor now says Puerto Rico's debt is unpayable and needs restructuring. The White House and Democrats in Congress say the United States needs to change the law to allow the territory to declare bankruptcy. Republicans say they want to fix the symptoms of the problem first. Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla says that if Congress doesn't act soon, Puerto Rico is headed toward a "humanitarian crisis under the United States flag. Like all U.S. states and territories, Puerto Rico cannot declare bankruptcy under federal law. Mainland municipalities and their utilities can; municipalities and utilities in Puerto Rico cannot. The island's public utilities are heavily indebted, and Garcia's administration is pushing Congress to allow them to declare bankruptcy. If the island isn't able to restructure its debt, officials have said they will have to start laying off police officers, firefighters, medical professionals and other public employees. Garcia has said that could lead to a humanitarian crisis. [From the Associated Press]7,435 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Michael Morrill

Let's end child abuseEnding any act of child abuse: physical, mental and sexual abuse. I have lived in a household where abuse has happened. Although it wasn't a regular occurrence, it has happened on more than one occasion. I believe our state (Texas) needs to reconsider their laws and help protect innocent children in abusive households. When will people realize it's happening? When a child is so brutally beaten in a hospital bed? Or when they are in their casket at their funeral? When will our society take a stand to end child abuse? No child deserves a life of physical, mental or sexual hurt. No one does. Although the physical scars don't always stay, the mental ones do. These kids will always have those memories for the rest of their lives. Police aren't acting and CPS isn't always the strongest point of safety. We need laws passed. We need people taking a stand!35 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alexandra

Remove Marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act & End Cannabis ProhibitionMarijuana and its cannabinoids are listed as Schedule 1 under the outdated Controlled Substances Act of 1970, defining it as having a high probability for addiction and having no medical value. The Department of Health & Human Services was awarded US Patent #6630507 in 2003, stating that cannabinoids are antioxidants and neuroprotectants capable of treating cancers and neurological illnesses. Although Section 7606 of the Agricultural Act of 2014 allowed for hemp— defined as Cannabis Sativa L. with <0.3 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)—to be grown for research only, the permits the DEA issues for the research plots still regulate hemp as "marijuana" under federal law, further adding to the confusion. To grow this plant as a resource is a human right. If alcohol & tobacco aren't on the list of controlled substances, then cannabis as "marijuana" shouldn't be either. The Drug War has failed and the United Nations drug treaties establishing global prohibition were passed prior to the scientific discovery of the Endocannabinoid System in the 1990s. It is time.15,846 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Deschedule 2016
