Arizona will soon become the first and only state to impose a one-year lifetime limit for impoverished households receiving federal benefits from the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program. This move will cut off aid for 1,600 Arizona families in July. The TANF families provides support for families while they're looking for jobs, offering roughly $195 per month in additional assistance. By placing a cap on this program, Arizona is leading a systemic attack on the poor -- one that other states are likely to copy if its allowed to stand.

The death penalty should be abolished for a variety of reasons--after all, the vast majority of the world's nations have clearly found the reasons to do so. Since 2002, no year has gone by in which even 30 countries have executed someone (Amnesty International). To put that in perspective, the United Nations has 193 member states. In 2014, the United States executed 35 people, the sixth-highest total of any country. Ahead of the U.S., in order, were North Korea, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. Rounding out the top 10, in order, were Sudan, Yemen, Egypt, and Somalia (Amnesty International). Is this the company we want to keep? Are U.S. levels of democracy and rule of law comparable to those of these countries? Do we really want to allow our nation to kill its own citizens, especially when state institutions are willing to break the law to keep killing?

We need to end taxpayer handouts to businesses. All companies in the USA should survive on their own - why do taxpayers have to subsidize them if they cannot?

More than enough black bears have been unnecessarily killed in Florida through October 24, 2015 that no hunt should be allowed to happen in 2016. Florida's unique black bear subspecies must be preserved and the government needs to educate, not exterminate. I have decided to start this petition in order to get judges or any other state officials across the United States to listen to what is really going on with our children due to parental alienation. I want to raise awareness to the simple fact that not all sides are created equal nor should our children be seeing another parent four days out of the month! The California Coastal Commission recently decided that San Diego SeaWorld must halt the breeding of all captive orcas. But SeaWorld says it wants to continue breeding orcas in captivity and will challenge the commission's ruling. Tell SeaWorld to accept the CCC's decision and end their orca breeding program once and for all.

My mom hates James Bond. She will not listen to unimpeachable arguments like "James Bond is good" and "mom come on" and "mom seriously?? JAMES BOND!!!" James Greer, an unarmed, brown, 46-year-old grandfather, was pulled over by Hayward, California police and administered a field sobriety test in May, 2014. Because of a medical condition, his 380-pound weight, and his apparent drug intoxication, Greer could not comply with the officers’ orders to place his hands behind his back and to lie on the ground. A struggle ensued, Greer was tased three times, and he was put in a straightjacket-like full-body restraint. Then he died. Even though Hayward PD sends out many news advisories for subjects ranging from missing persons to homicides, they never disclosed this death publicly, nor was it independently investigated by the District Attorney’s office. The Sheriff/Coroner ruled Greer’s death an accident, with the cause listed as “PCP intoxication associated with physical exertion,” even though there is ample evidence that chest or neck compression during constraint, especially during an encounter with police, often leads to a condition known as Excited Delirium Syndrome, which leads to a few hundred deaths each year in North America. An expert in the field stated, “People literally exhaust themselves to death.” A spokesperson for the Alameda County District Attorney’s office said they review officer-involved deaths only when they are from gunshots, per an agreement they have with county police chiefs, and would only review a restraint-related death if requested by law enforcement. We call for a full, public airing of these policies by the agencies named, including policy revisions as necessary to provide safety and justice for all people, as well as satisfying the public’s right to know how their law enforcement agencies are handling dangerous interactions with the public, and to know the results of police-involved-death investigations. In the post-Ferguson world we now live in, pre-Ferguson policies are not sufficient, and best practices call for forums in which public input is sought with regard to the policies.

Key services to citizens are being severely impacted: libraries, fire protection, search and rescue, sheriff/police services, roads, veterans, recreational, public transit, schools and seniors. Upper Peninsula lawmakers have been working on this problem since 2011-12, but previous legislation never got out of committee. Our communities are suffering and we need to convince committee members to support all Michigan communities through solid tax legislation and updated Tax Tribunal policies.
