• PETITION FOR THE RELEASE OF NANCY EZELL
Nancy's case is heart breaking. We did a compassionate release application for her and she was denied and her time to the next parole hearing was extended to two years. I am worried that her health will give out with the stress and her inability to breathe well. There is no good reason behind this and the parole board gives no reason except to constantly reiterate her drug crime. Enough-this is not the same woman who went to prison- she has learned what she needs and now we need to release her.

  • Hold EPA Accountable: Help Navajo Nation
The EPA is responsible for spilling millions of gallons of toxins into the Animas River in Colorado, affecting members of the Navajo Nation who live along the river and depend on it for survival. There are 27,000 acres of farmland now without water. Farmers and ranchers on the nation’s largest reservation are working on emergency plans to keep their crops and livestock alive. The EPA is currently distributing waivers to members of the Navajo Nation, many of whom do not speak English. A signature would effectively waive an individual’s rights to sue the agency for any future damages caused by contaminated water released from the abandoned mine. Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye told the EPA to stop handing out the waivers. From journalist Tristan Ahtone's report: “My interpretation as president of the Navajo Nation is the EPA is trying to minimize the amount of compensation that the people deserve,” said Begaye. “They want to close these cases and they don’t want more compensation to come later.” The EPA did not return requests for comment. “I haven’t heard that this is going on in any other communities outside Navajo Nation,” Ahtone said, adding he thinks this makes it “suspect.”

  • Support the Meeropol brothers: exonerate wrongly convicted Ethel Rosenberg
The following article was written by Brian Schaefer & published in The Forward. (JTA) — Honor thy father and mother, says the Torah. In the case of the sons of convicted spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, that means requesting a presidential pardon. Brothers Michael and Robert Meeropol penned an op-ed in the New York Times Monday asking President Barack Obama to acknowledge that their mother, Ethel Rosenberg, was wrongly convicted and executed for conspiracy to commit espionage in 1953. Ethel Rosenberg and her husband, Julius Rosenberg, were at the center of one of the most controversial spy cases of the 20th century and were victims, many say, of the zealous overreach of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s anti-communist crusade. While the brothers did not dispute their father’s culpability in their op-ed (“Scholars mostly agree,” they wrote, “that Julius was a spy”), they made a case that their mother, though likely aware of Julius’ activities, was not an active conspirator. The Rosenbergs were arrested in the summer of 1950 on charges of passing along atomic-bomb secrets to the Soviet Union. The case against Ethel Rosenberg was weak from the start: Historians believe she was largely a prosecutorial pawn used to put pressure on her husband. Damning testimony during the 1951 trial, however, came from David Greenglass, her brother. Greenglass was an army machinist and committed communist, who claimed his sister had been present at meetings in which he shared nuclear intelligence with Julius Rosenberg and that she typed up the notes. Later in life, when tracked down by a journalist, he admitted to lying on the witness stand to protect his wife, Ruth Greenglass, whom many suspect was actually the typist. David Greenglass, who served 10 years in prison for his role in the conspiracy, died last October at age 92. In their Times op-ed, the Meeropol brothers cited the release of Greenglass’ grand jury testimony last month, six decades after it was given, in which he did not mention his sister’s involvement. They also pointed to KGB records of communication with the Rosenbergs and noted that while Julius had a code name, “Liberal,” Ethel did not. They argued this means she was not considered a spy by the Russians and are now asking the U.S. government to reach the same conclusion. “Our mother was not a spy,” they wrote in the Times. “The government held her life hostage to coerce our father to talk, and when that failed, it extracted false statements to secure her wrongful execution.” The Rosenbergs’ sons were 10 and 6 years old respectively when orphaned. They were later adopted by Abel and Anne Meeropol and have made it a lifelong mission to shed light on their parents’ case. Michael Meeropol, now a professor of economics, edited “The Rosenberg Letters,” a compilation of the prison correspondence between his parents. Robert Meeropol founded the Rosenberg Fund for Children, which supports children of “targeted activists” and wrote “An Execution in the Family,” a memoir of his experience. They co-authored “We Are Your Sons,” about their turbulent childhood and political awakening, all of which has led to yesterday’s formal appeal. “It is never too late to correct an egregious injustice,” they wrote. “We call on the government to formally exonerate Ethel Rosenberg.” Read more: http://forward.com/news/breaking-news/318967/ethel-rosenbergs-sons-plead-for-pardon-for-mom/#ixzz3ioZ0fSaq

  • Tell Edelman: Stop doing Big Oil's dirty work
There’s a saying in the business world that when your public relations firm becomes your public relations problem, you’re in trouble. That’s why Edelman, the largest PR company in the world, is scrambling after making headlines when four senior executives resigned over its climate change positions. By seizing this moment to pressure Edelman and other PR firms to take a stand against Big Oil, we can send a message to politicians and business leaders that working with fossil fuel companies is no longer acceptable.

  • Ban fracking in Taylor county
EQT has been to our door in the middle of the night to try to get us to sign a lease. Fracking mines are popping up on Tappan road, Rock Union road, Holt road, and U.S. Route 250, and now they want to build one in my backyard! Mike Dean was extremely pushy and even insinuated I could be sued as a "hold out customer " and my land be taken away from me. I will fight any way I can to send those frackers running. I lived in what used to be a beautiful community called Hickory Hills on Rock Union road Fairmont, WV and now the horses' hay isn't edible. None of the neighbors tomato or plants are even producing anything yet, and it's August 14, 2015. I find dead frogs and snakes often and my dogs won't drink the water that comes from the tap. There is a fracking mine directly behind Mountain View Water Association on Route 50/250 junction. It's time to ban fracking now.

I currently suffer from Ulcerative Colitis and having traveled to places like Colorado and Washington, have been able to legally treat my disease with medical marijuana, edibles, and oils. It was amazing to have something that is natural provide more relief from my symptoms, than the 30 plus prescribed medications that I take every day. Please allow us to have access to our medicine and to use cannabis as responsible adults.
