• No GMOs in our city!!!
I am starting this petition because I want to be healthy and natural. I want what goes into my body, as well as into the bodies of the people I live around and loved ones, to be foods that are COMPLETELY natural as well. I don't want this genetic corruption going into my body. Who asked we the people if we wanted this? Who made this known to our people through everyday news and media and radio? I want natural food for my people and myself!!

  • Save Americorps NCCC
A few days ago a subcommittee in the House of Representatives approved a bill to underfund The Corporation for National and Community Service. If this legislation is approved by the Full Committee it will likely go to the floor of the House for a vote, from there to the Senate and then finally to the President. If this bill is actually passed into law then AmeriCorps NCCC will be completely underfunded and will cease to exist. So let's take a second and list some quantifiables from NCCC during the year 2014. -removed 1,179 acres of brush/undergrowth to prevent fires -helped to construct 281 houses with Habitat for Humanity -assisted over 17,000 homeless people -over 24,000 at-risk youth I can't even begin to explain how much of an impact NCCC has made when it comes to disaster recovery services. Two examples I can think of are Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Katrina. This is just a small portion of the impact that AmeriCorps has had in the past year. These numbers aren't even covering what Americorps State/National and Americorps VISTA has done. Not only does Americorps serve local and national communities but they also serve its members. They do this by building and developing leaders, guiding people on the right path and exposing individuals to life experiences and lessons that they may have never gotten if they hadn't joined. I have served two years with Americorps and I am about to serve a third year starting this august. Learning about this bill has made me upset beyond anything. Americorps has changed my life and helped mold me into the person I am today. All I ask is that you stand beside me and help prove to those in the House of Representatives that don't realize how much of an impact Americorps has made throughout the United States in the past twenty years.

  • Fire Trump!
As a product of Mexican immigrant grandparents, we are affected by the defaming words of Donald Trump. Mexican, Latino, or not we need to ban together as the human race to show Trump his racist antics will not be tolerated.

  • Please Lift the Schedule I Restrictions on Medical Marijuana by Passing the CARERS Act
I, the undersigned, am petitioning the US Congress to please pass the Compassionate Access, Research, Expansion and Respect States (CARERS) Act. Under this Act, medical marijuana will be reclassified as a Schedule II drug, which will allow patients undergoing cannabis-based treatments for their condition to have more access to the drug. Medical marijuana is currently classified as a Schedule I drug, identifying it as an illegal substance inherently dangerous and without any medical value. As recent developments have shown, medical marijuana is safe and is proven to have tremendous benefits to patients who suffer from severe epilepsy, among other illnesses. Because of the drug's current Schedule I classification, it is extremely difficult for these patients to obtain the drug legally and without risk of arrest if they live in a state where marijuana is still considered illegal. Passing the CARERS Act will truly help patients requiring medical marijuana in treating their illnesses and living better lives. It will also allow more extensive research on the drug's medical benefits. So, I am appealing to the Congress to please make the CARERS Act a law of the land as soon as possible. Respectfully, Stella Andrews Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Project Coordinator

  • VOICES....Victims Of Injustice (are) Children Enduring Suffering
There are thousands and thousands of children being victimized by the criminal and corrupt acts of the family courts across America. Everyone is aware of this and yet NO ONE wants to help these innocent children. They deserve to have a voice and people need to LISTEN to them and not just HEAR them! Our current family court is nothing more than a bank that continues to destroy families. My son has been suffering by an abusive and alcoholic father. He has begged the police, Child Protective Services, the court ordered Best Interest Attorney, school counselors and psychologists, and other supposed child experts for help and NO ONE has LISTENED to him. I was my son's SOLE CAREGIVER his entire life, but had little money due to a physical disability, and his father has millions. The father claims that he owns "Howard County, Maryland" and can do "whatever" he wants. This has been the case because he continues to abuse and neglect my son and yet has sole physical and legal custody. THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE! My son has been hospitalized for suicidal ideation, and has been found to be severely depressed. He has gained 72 pounds in his father's care, in less than three years. NO ONE CARES except for me and yet the Court continues to sanction me for filing motions to protect my 12 year old son. This needs to stop......PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AND SAVE MY SON FROM SUCH CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT BEFORE HE BECOMES A STATISTIC DUE TO THE IGNORANCE OF OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM.

  • Tell Democrats to STOP Red-Baiting of Bernie Sanders
The Democratic power brokers proved they are in Wall Street's back pocket today, when Clinton campaign operative, Senator Claire McCaskill, began red-baiting presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, urging media to call him "a socialist" and calling Sander's ideas extreme. Sander's ideas of expanding Social Security and Healthcare and increasing the minimum wage, are ALL things the American people want in polls. Sounds like the pro-Wall Street Clinton operatives are the extreme ones.

  • Legalize Cannabis And Hemp
It is understood that while marijuana has been essentially illegal since 1937, the prohibition of this plant has not worked. There have been studies done that prove it has medical uses, if it didn't then the synthetic drug Marinol would not exist. It has also been proven that in recreational use it does less harm than alcohol. Please look at how much our government spends on trying to fight something that is of no threat to our society. Realize how many other ways that money could be spent to make this a stronger country. Also, look into how much more money the country would make through taxation, as it does with alcohol and tobacco. Also we can reduce the the drug trade and hurt their profits. We can use hemp for a variety of things like paper, plastic, fuel, ropes, etc. Don't be afraid to stand up and say this to your fellow politicians. We, your constituents, are asking you to do this for us and for our country.

  • Food is out for summer?
For too many kids, summer vacation means no classes, no homework -- and no source of food they can count on every day. More than 30 million children in the U.S. rely on school lunch programs during the school year. Yet once school lets out, only one out of every 10 kids who rely on school lunches get help from programs like the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Now some in Congress are on the verge of cutting these programs even further. Congress must decide soon whether to strengthen or cut these programs. The National Commission on Hunger, a bipartisan congressional committee tasked with advising Congress on how to combat hunger, is holding hearings around the country to get input. It's the best shot we have to continue childhood nutrition programs that are essential to fighting hunger. These programs can help alleviate hunger for the 16 million children -- or 1 in every 5 -- who struggle to find a steady source of meals. Cutting these programs would mean millions of empty stomachs. Strengthening these programs would help fill them. And when kids have enough to eat, they have a better shot at a decent life. It's that simple. Add your name to stop cuts to summer meal programs for kids who depend on them.

  • RENAME the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge to the Mother Emanuel Unity Bridge!
We are very saddened by the tragic deaths of our fellow community members. They were so loving and dedicated to our community and are amazing example of what Charleston, South Carolina is all about. We are the Holy City and we are a unified city where we look out and love one another. Their deaths did not occur in vain. They all inspired us to be better people and to be a strong and caring community. Instead of this tragedy dividing us as intended, it unified us as never before. Our undying love for our city and humanity over-poured as we celebrated their lives and honored their legacy in Charleston, South Carolina. They were all amazing examples of how Charlestonians, South Carolinians, and Americans should be and live. I am petitioning we honor their lives in an exemplary way by renaming the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge to the Mother Emanuel Unity Bridge. I urge the South Carolina legislature to take this into consideration at their next session in order to honor the lives of these inspiring people in Charleston, South Carolina. Thank you!

  • Ban Oil Companies Who Cause Spills in the U.S.
There is a large piece of land contaminated in my community that could not be used for over 30 years. Fines and excuses do not stop the problem from reoccuring. New consequences must push for a higher standard operating procedure.
