• Prevent a Serious Accident. Turn off Pipeline #5.
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," certainly applies to our Great Lakes. These pipelines are old and pose a severe risk to our region's most precious natural resource. During your campaign you spoke about being a strong protector of our natural resources. Now is your chance as a lawmaker to let your walking do your talking. Please take actions that would immediately shut down this dangerous infrastructure across the Straits of Mackinaw.

  • Chatham K-5 Math Program
A group of Chatham Public School parents are concerned that the K-5 math program is in need of improvement. We feel that the program is not working for many of our children. We are starting this petition because we feel this program is doing our children a disservice. These are our key areas of concern: 1) There is insufficient mastery of basic math facts due to the overemphasis on higher-level problem solving. 2) Language-based math presents difficulty for children that have not yet mastered reading. This can intimidate and discourage a student that might otherwise be a strong math performer. 3) The math homework is confusing and poorly worded. This forces children to ask for help and creates a sense of dependency. 4) Communication regarding curriculum is insufficient. 5) Supplementation of the curriculum is inconsistent between classes and grades. Some students are getting basic math fact reinforcement while others do not. 6) Too many parents are having to seek outside help via Mathnasium, private tutors, or trying to instruct their children themselves. If you share these concerns, we ask that you support our request for the School District to review and strengthen the program.

  • Hold Kansas state legislators accountable for their time
Our state is $400 million dollars in the red. The Kansas legislators spent close to $1 million dollars in overtime working on a budget. Really, spend more money when we already do not have any? The budget should have been taken care of in normal session. What were they thinking?

  • NF Selectmen: Give Back $123,368 to our Schools
The New Fairfield Board of Selectmen took $123,368 from the School District's Debt Service for school construction account in order to cover their deficit spending. Despite the Voters restricting this account for school construction or debt reduction in 2009, despite the Town voted for TWO separate budgets in 2014, despite State law requiring a Town Vote for transfers in excess of $20,000 between Departments, and despite the moral and ethical issues, the BOS took money from our children (and never asked nor informed the Superintendent of Schools or the Board of Education). Before the Fiscal Year ends on June 30, ask them to restore those funds to the schools.

  • Lower the age for breast cancer screening
On November 9, 2014, at 01:50 am my wife Kristen starts to breathe erratically. I woke up our daughters Abigail, age 6 and Katlyn, age 7. I explained to them the best I could through my tears that it is time to say goodbye to their mother. Abigail is crying and leans up and gives her mom a last kiss while whispering in her ear “I love you so much mommy.” Katlyn goes up to her mother and gives her mom a kiss as a tear falls from Kristen’s left eye. Katlyn is trying so hard to speak through her emotions, and finally says, “Mommy please don't go, I love you so much mommy.” All three of us watched heartbroken as Kristen takes her last breath. Hello, my name is Joseph Jennings. In 2008, my wife delivered our second child. Two months later she discovered a lump in her breast. She is told by her doctor that since she is only 32-years-old that her medical insurance would not cover a mammogram and besides the lump is most likely related to her breastfeeding our child. She was later diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer and even after a radical mastectomy, given approximately 6 months left to live. After a heroic 5 ½ - year-long fight, she passed away in our home in November of 2014. My family’s story is just one of many stories that needlessly end this way as American woman continue to die of breast cancer at an alarming rate. The Preventive Special Task Force is now pushing to increase the age for regular mammogram screenings from 40 years to 50 while also recommending that such screenings be performed every other year instead of bi-annually. Our goal is to empower more women by lowering the age that insurance companies must pay for mammograms to 30-years-old. Young women who find themselves in a situation such as my wife, women who have a family history of breast cancer, or have no history because they are adopted deserve the right to choose such screenings when they feel they are necessary and to have their medical insurance company pay for them. We are needlessly losing young mothers, wives, daughters, nieces, cousins, aunts, and friends to breast cancer. I am asking that you please stand with me in demanding that ALL women be empowered. That ALL women be given the choice to do what they believe is best for their health and not have their choices limited or dictated by their medical insurance providers. You can join our mission by signing the petition. I have also created a page on Facebook for all cancer patients where they can go and chat, make friends, and find support - the address for this petition is https://www.facebook.com/groups/kristenstruewillpower/. For everyone without a Facebook account, I created a website that you can read all about Kristen's journey with breast cancer. You can find this page at http://www.kristenstruewillpower.com. Each and every woman, no matter what her age, deserves to be empowered with every tool available to detect and beat breast cancer. Thank you, Joseph Jennings

  • Resolution on Medicare Part B - No Penalty
This petition is to help our senior citizens who discovered they need Medicare Part B and was told about the 10% but could not afford it due to financial hardship. Medicare Part B will average about over one hundred dollars a month. I have talked with a lot of seniors who need Medicare Part B but they can't afford the penalty.

  • MoveOn should support Bernie Sanders
Since discontinuing the Run WARREN Run campaign, we the undersigned would like MoveOn to petition it's member as to whether or not MoveOn should endorse Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination in 2016. Bernie is carrying on the very issues Elizabeth has been fighting for like: Income inequality, raising the minimum wage, a federal jobs program fixing our roads and bridges, single payer healthcare, overturning Citizens United and more. • Stop The Deportation of LGBTQ Activist Sulma!
Sulma did everything she was supposed to (and more!) when she arrived in Austin, Texas six years ago. She began the process of applying for asylum, learned English and applied for work authorization. Years later, she opened up her own food truck business with her partner and applied for all the necessary permits. They had just paid 2 months rent on a space to park the truck when Sulma went in for a routine ICE appointment, something she had been doing every 3 months for years. But this time, rather than signing her name and leaving, ICE told her that her lawyer had not filed some paperwork correctly. With her car still parked outside, and her partner and business waiting for her, she was taken into ICE custody and eventually transferred to Eloy Detention Center in Arizona. Thanks to the community, she was released back to her family in Austin, Texas--- but the nightmare is not over as ICE wants to remove her this Thursday!

  • Bring Back The Protecting Tenants In Foreclosure Act
My husband and I are tenants who have suffered a domino effect of bad consequences due to renting a foreclosed home. It is our greatest hope that others in our situation will not have to suffer as we currently are. Currently there is a big scam going on where people are pretending to be property managers and agents for the new owners of foreclosed homes to extort money from unsuspecting tenants. Please sign and share this petition to stop abuse of tenants and please bring back the Protecting Tenants In Foreclosure Act . Thanks in advance. ~ Rev. Susan Sabella-Marsh

  • Who is excluded from Public Service Loan Forgiveness? (Many people!)
I have been a public school teacher for 16 years. I have dutifully paid my student loan each month for 14 years ( I had to defer for two years because my income was too low). My peers and I have been stuck in a legislative purgatory in which the patchwork of student loan bills that have been passed only address an exclusive number of borrowers. Even after 16 years of service and at the top of my pay scale, I still qualify for an income sensitive repayment plan. We need meaningful and inclusive change!

  • Restrict the use of bee-killing pesticides in San Francisco
Bees are a critical part of our agriculture. Without bees, we would only eat black tea and brown bread. They are important to the development of our food and life. Without them, we wouldn't survive.
