Students Oppose Governor Cuomo's Education ProposalsOur school has felt the negative impacts of teaching to the test. New York State Tests take away valuable time in the classroom from creative learning and stimulating projects. Now, Governor Cuomo wants to make these oppressive tests count even more toward a teacher's evaluation, worsening the problem. As students, it is our responsibility to speak out against this injustice because this is our education and our future.163 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Josie and Ray Hovis

Do Not Allow Georgia Lawmakers to Turn Back the Clock on Voting Rights - #No2HB194Georgia's early voting period was cut dramatically in 2011 from 45 early voting days to 21. Now lawmakers want to cut to 12 days - that's 11 voting days and 4 hours on weekend. This will cause LONG lines and waiting times and may disenfranchise many voters. Fighting against prohibitive voting laws is important. We all need to speak up when our rights OR the rights of others are being infringed upon. This is #VoterSuppresion!273 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Dianne Wing

Stop Oil & Coal Trains in the Pacific NorthwestIt's about the current threat to our ecosystem. The Oil & Coal Trains are hauling highly volatile crude oil in transport cars that have been deemed to be in unsafe condition. With the combination of higher volume of oil & crude along with sub-standard condition cars it is a ticking time bomb. Uncovered coal trains are contaminating the air and areas surrounding the railroads. The surrounding communities where the railroads travel do not have resources to respond to a derailment of this magnitude.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jonathan Smith

Affordable and Accessible Health Care in MichiganThe state of Michigan has taken significant steps towards affordable and accessible health care through the Affordable Care Act and the expansion of Medicaid. Unfortunately, the problem of unemployed as well as underemployed individuals being unable to receive appropriate medical services persists. Health care is a basic standard to quality of life, and should be available to everyone no matter what their background may be.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kayla McMaster

Governor Cuomo: Respect Public Ed and What #AllKidsNeedThe Governor's Opportunity Agenda does not support our public schools. We need a budget that helps teachers do their jobs. We are calling on legislators to approve a $2.2 billion state aid increase, end the GAP Elimination Adjustment; make good on districts’ prior-year claims; invest in statewide universal pre-kindergarten; embrace community schools; reduce class sizes; and reject any attempt to increase the impact of state standardized testing.6,809 of 7,000 SignaturesCreated by Stand Up Speak Out 4 Public Education

Stop Newsday's biased public teacher reportingIt's time for Newsday to be accountable for their biased reporting and get the real facts about teaching in Public Schools from the people who are in these classrooms everyday. They have no clue what it's like to be a teacher in today's classroom.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Josephine Poio

Menendez, Indicted, Should Resign From LeadershipUPDATE 4/1, 10PM ET: Several media outlets are reporting that Menendez will step down from the leadership of SFRC and be replaced by Cardin. UPDATE 4/1: Menendez has been indicted. He should step down from the Democratic leadership immediately. === The Justice Department is preparing to file corruption charges against New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez following a 2-year investigation into allegations he accepted gifts and lavish vacations in exchange for political favors. [1] This has been long expected. In 2013 Menendez and Sen. Mitch McConnell were named by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) as the two most corrupt Senators. [2] Senator Menendez, like every other American, is entitled to a presumption of innocence when facing criminal prosecution. But he should not continue to serve in a position of leadership in the Senate while he remains under a cloud of suspicion of trading the power of his office for money. In 2008-2009, the New York Times [3], the Washington Post [4], and many Democrats [5] called for Rep. Charlie Rangel to step down from his chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee while ethics allegations against him were investigated. In March 2010, he did so. [6] Senator Menendez currently serves as Democratic leader – “ranking member” – on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Thus, for example, he has a leading role in formulating the policy of Senate Democrats regarding U.S. diplomacy with Iran. Under a cloud of suspicion for trading political favors for money, Menendez should step down from this leadership position.
