LA RICS (LA Regional Interoperability Communications System) is implementing via Federal Stimulus Funds, $150,000,000 worth of military grade, super high powered, cell towers with increased frequencies and surveillance capabilities that will saturate 97% of Los Angeles and will harm and kill both wildlife and people in addition to devalue property wherever they are placed. This new "upgraded" cell tower system is being implemented with zero public input or hearings and overriding all environmental impact rules, regulations and laws. We do not need more powerful microwaves assaulting ourselves and our environment! Human and environmental life and residential and commercial property value are being ignored in the name of "Homeland Security, The Patriot Act, emergency responders and public safety." Do not ignore public health and safety in the name of public health and safety! Stop accepting "blood money" from the Federal government that overrides public and environmental health and safety and will add yet one more layer of surveillance to an already heavily surveilled populous!!

The School Board aims to finalize a secondary school site by November 18. A choice school at the Wilson site would relieve over-crowding at Swanson and Williamsburg middle schools, while fulfilling community interest in a STEM school feeder to the Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology High School (currently only about 15 of the hundreds of APS students that apply each year are admitted) and/or a language immersion program. APS enrollment has grown by 19 percent in the last five years and is expected to grow at 2.7 percent every year for the next ten years. The Wilson site is just one piece of the puzzle, but preliminary APS analysis found it was likely to be the fastest place to add new seats with best construction value and least disruption to students during construction. Regardless of the first site chosen, APS will continue to plan for renovations and additions at other sites to meet the growing student population.

Every day in this country an estimated 187 people die from drug overdose, and another 6,748 are treated in emergency rooms. That averages out to an overdose related hospitalization every 13 seconds and an overdose death every 7½ minutes. Drug overdose is now the leading cause of accidental death in the United States, outstripping traffic fatalities and gun homicides. And every year it gets worse. In addition to the terrible human toll, substance abuse costs the U.S. economy between $500 billion and One Trillion Dollars annually, depending on what is counted as a cost. Effective treatment can dramatically reduce these staggering numbers. According to several conservative estimates, every dollar invested in addiction treatment programs yields a return of between $4 and $7 in reduced drug-related crime, criminal justice costs, and theft. When savings related to healthcare are included, total savings can exceed costs by a ratio of 12 to 1. My 24-year-old son, Anthony, died May 31, 2014, following a six-year battle with opioid and heroin addiction that included three unsuccessful short term treatment programs, each lasting less than 30 days, which was all that insurance would pay for. For most people, this is simply not enough time to recover from the assault addictive drugs make on the body and to restore the life skills that keep a person from relapsing. It wasn’t enough for Anthony. Research tells us that effective inpatient treatment leads to long term sobriety and fewer relapses. Ninety (90) day residential drug rehab is suggested by professionals as the minimum length of time for effective treatment. Anecdotal evidence gathered from post discharge patient interviews suggests that long-term treatment at a drug rehab facility can decrease the risk of relapse by up to 73%. That can mean the difference between addiction and recovery—or even life and death. Tell your U.S. Senators and representatives: Legislation must be enacted immediately to provide for a minimum of Ninety (90) days inpatient drug or alcohol treatment days per year at a facility certified to provide such care by the appropriate authority in the state in which it is located.

It is outlandish and outrageous that Dead Beat parents get away with such limited consequence not paying for their children. But, it is equally outlandish and unacceptable that a DeadBeat be provided with free legal services to help exonerate he/she from the obligation of supporting his/her child.

I started this petition to demand that our United States Government makes tougher laws on child abuse, including mandatory life in prison for dangerous child rapists, and that child murders include the death penalty. Child Protective Services needs to be investigated and reformed and tell them to stop making a profit of our children. We need better laws to protect our children from child abuse of all kinds especially child rape. Child abuse is getting out of control and it needs to be stopped once and for all!

Little Havana residents require parking spaces but investors and developers want to circumvent established parking requirements in order to make a higher profit by building more units and NOT providing parking. This will create a hardship for hard working residents where parking is already scarce and add to their cost of living by having to pay for off-site parking. They will have to park their cars far from their homes and expose themselves to possible theft or vandalism.
