• Teach For America: Listen to America’s college students!
On September 24, United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) sent a letter to Teach for America on behalf of their 150 local student chapters across the country. USAS explained that they are launching groundbreaking campaigns to sever institutional ties between our universities and TFA, unless they agree to move away from lending a hand to corporate behemoths like Walmart and Goldman Sachs in destroying our public education system, and move towards building a better, fully public education system. Students are asking TFA to agree to the following: 1. TFA must only operate in areas where there are actual teacher shortages, instead of pursuing aggressive expansion that displaces lifelong teachers. 2. TFA must give aspiring teachers adequate education and training. 3. TFA must cut ties with corporations like Walmart and Goldman Sachs. Student leaders from across the country are meeting with TFA to see how they respond to our national campaign demands in person. Sign the petition to show you support students’ work and encourage TFA to change.

  • Nominate an Attorney General Who Will Work for Average Americans
Eric Holder was caught by Matt Taibi letting big bankers off with slap-on-the-wrist fines for crashing the world economy. His association with the Covington & Burling, that played a major role in creating the MERS system that led to the Great Recession, is disturbing. He also admitted some banks are too big to fail. Mr. Holder has a blemished record. Ms. Lynch will uphold and build upon Mr. Holder's blemished record given that she worked for Wall Street-connected law form Cahill Gordon & Reindel and lobbying firm Hogan Lovells. Ms. Lynch's nomination has at least the appearance of being another pro-big business appointee - another fox guarding the economic chicken coop.

  • No war with Iran
Breaking news: Yesterday a major Democratic donor said he believed that “the daylights should be bombed out of Iran (1). ” This isn’t the first time major donors have been pushing representatives to take us down another senseless war with the Middle East. We need to be sure that the newly elected Congress knows that voters overwhelming support diplomacy and don’t want to see a war with Iran. If we stay silent, the only voice these new members of Congress will hear will be coming from the side that wants to escalate the conflict in the Middle East. Diplomacy with Iran is working. The interim agreement with Iran has ensured that the international community has daily access to nuclear sites. It has also rolled back Iran’s nuclear capability (2). Iraq and Afghanistan have clearly shown that war only achieves more instability and gives oxygen to extremist groups. Our voices are crucial and powerful in moments like this. It was because of the actions of every day people like you that Congress did not undermine the process of diplomat and negotiations. Your voices stopped Congress from increasing sanctions again Iran at a very sensitive time. The negotiations teams has accomplished much (3). We have to keep going. We cannot give up when we are so close to a peaceful resolution with Iran. We have to stand up for peace and to ensure that every member of congress knows that we, the people, don’t want to see war with Iran. 1) Major Democratic Donor: Israel Should “Bomb The Daylights” Out Of Iran, BuzzFeed, November 9. 2)Iran agrees to daily inspections as it reaches interim nuclear deal with world powers, Indapendant.co.uk, January 13. 3)New IAEA Report Shows Iran Complying With Nuclear Agreement, February 20.

  • Tattoo policy exemption for Military Veterans
Men and women returning home after serving their country in The United States Military are now being told they are not up to standards, and now are not allowed to serve their home state of Connecticut as State Troops. These men and women have sacrificed a lot in service to their country, only to return home and be turned away because of tattoos they received while on active duty. Tattoos are apart of military tradition and mean a lot to those who have served.

  • Legalize cannabis in the state of Utah
So many people need it for medical reasons, for rec this would help tag state so much it would lower crime rate. Most of the people in jail are there because of a plant that helps people. Tho also would create more jobs. 3/4 of the people have admit they smoke or had. There has been no deaths at all. Tabbaco cause millions of deaths each year, but yet legal??? Cannabis helps people and no deaths but illegal. Open you eyes and realize how dumb it is to have it illegal there are so much I can still talk about and so many people in the state of Utah would agree.

  • Bring Justice to a Corrupt Court in Ohio
I want to end unfair prosecution in Medina, Ohio. Many people in Medina get charged and sent to prison for crimes they did not commit. The biggest problem we have in Medina is men getting charged with rape with little or no evidence. My father Patrick J. Shank was one of those men that was falsely accused. We had piles of evidence to prove he was innocent and he was still found guilty. If the justice system in Medina was fair, many people would not be in prison.

  • SML Proposed Law Change
These 2 areas of the Statutes are a very grey area to be interpreted by the person or department looking at the application. Once a decision has been made by anyone in that department no one will try and overturn that person's decision. This will help clarify the law.

  • In Vitro Fertilization Coverage Equality for All Women.
I was diagnosed with infertility and was denied my IVF health insurance benefit from the Hawaii Medical Services Association (HMSA) because I was not married. As a result, I was forced to pay out of pocket for my IVF procedure while married women using their spouse's sperm, civil union couples and same-sex married couples using donor's sperm were allowed the benefit. Infertility does not discriminate, and the right of a woman to access her health benefits to support her decision relating to procreation shall be free of unjustified government interference according to the Hawai`i Constitution. The right to health and family belongs to all women, equally. One woman, all women. One family, all families.

  • Order for full accounting from Trustee and rightful compensation to irrevocable beneficiaries
We are petitioniong the Probate Court to order an honest and full accounting from a successor Trustee, Verla Lofton-Sherman. Our claim is that Verla Lofton-Sherman has breached her fiduciary duty to both grantors, she has not kept accurate records/receipts of transactions made in care of one of the grantors or other expenses paid with trust funds, breached duty of loyalty to irrevocable beneficiaries, and violated Power of Attorney "self-dealing/converting real properties in her name and her son's name". Myself, Deborah Q. Washington, and Ollie T. Wilson's other nine irrevocable beneficiaries have not received an honest and full accounting from Verla lofton-Sherman, nor received our rightful 50% share of remaining assets of Ollie T. Wilson and Thelma G. Wilson's Revocable Living Trust impartially. We also do not want anyone else to get away with committing elderly financial abuse to our Aunt Thelma Wilson for the second time without being penalized.

  • Save Ross Valley Schools!
On September 12, a group of MAP teachers and parents submitted a charter school petition for the Ross Valley Charter School to the Ross Valley School District. The Charter Petition was unanimously denied by RVSD Trustees upon consideration of the 27 page RVSD staff report. Although the charter petition will “partially convert Manor School,” potentially bumping K5 teachers and families to other RVSD schools, petitioners did not involve either group in the process, nor did they obtain the requisite signatures of 50% of the Manor teachers. Keep MAP a RVSD program!

  • Safer Intersections Needed
Many deaths have occurred at intersections throughout the state involving drivers that have missed stop signs. Let's make it easier to see them by lighting them up. My wife and I are an example of a near fatal accident because of a driver who ran a stop sign back in 1998. My wife was 7 months pregnant at the time, and had to go through 2 and a half hours of brain surgery. Miraculously both made it through and are healthy today.
