• Second chance for non violent, first time offenders.
The life sentences we are putting on non violent felons by labeling them for life, is killing our labor force. Many of these people are good people, who may have just made a poor decision. If we stop the disenfranchisement, we may stop a lot of the crime along with it. Give people a chance to show they can do better, and we're sure most of them will.

  • Accountability for officer shootings
Far too often officers are involved in shootings of unarmed citizens, and the public is told that the officer is on "admin leave" or "desk duty" but the identity of the officer is almost never made public. Instead, the media is allowed to vilify the deceased. If the identity of the officer involved in the incident is made public, it'll give the public a better shot at holding the officer and the police department, accountable...we ask for transparency with officer involved shootings!

  • Rob Manfred: Use a United States manufacturer to produce MLB fan apparel
My husband and I are both huge baseball fans, and we try to only buy American-made products. When my husband wanted to buy a new Milwaukee Brewers hat this spring, he was disappointed and frustrated that one made in the USA was not an option. After researching the subject, it's clear that there are U.S.-based hat and t-shirt manufacturers would be viable candidates to take over production that would not cause a steep increase in apparel prices. Given the amount of products the MLB orders, the switch could possibly even create American jobs. America loves baseball; now it's time for baseball to return the love!

  • Release Jonathon Blake Martin
Blake is my husband and father of our child, Dexi. Our children's home lives should be top priority, and lengthy sentences for non aggravated crimes should be stopped. All it does is cost all of us (the taxpayers) more money.

  • A Petition to Amend the US Constitution to Include the Concept of "Responsibility"
Pick a problem! Pick any social, political, economic, or environmental problem. Pick them all! You will find that somewhere in that problem, to a greater or lesser extent, some entity’s failure to act responsibly is a factor in the existence of that problem. It stands to reason that if we move universally across the broad spectrum of our problems, to increase that level of responsibility for those entities, that we will also be moving to decrease the extent to which those problems exist.

  • Vote NO to selling Lincoln School
As a resident of Ward 3, I feel 12 days is not enough time to consider the pros and cons of selling Lincoln School and such a decision should not be made in such haste. Many residents of Creston's 3rd ward agree that 29 units (16 senior apartments and 13 town homes) is TOO MUCH to develop and only benefits a few people. And, fellow Crestonians agree. Seldin's proposed project also takes away our neighborhood play space. Other wards have green space, why take ours? In conversations, Seldin's developers were very clear that forgoing the town home portion of the plan on the green space was not an option. We want a library that will invest in future generations, and the library's new plans reflect that. The new library and cultural center will increase our property values while creating a place that inspires, heals and empowers our community. Don't you agree that Creston deserves that? Don't feel rushed in your decision. If you do, vote no to Seldin Company.

  • Tell Congress: Pass the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act. No more Fergusons!
Police in Ferguson, Missouri could transform their town into a war zone—because of armored vehicles, assault weapons and body armor provided by the United States military. And police militarization has happened in cities all over the country. Section 1033 of a military spending bill passed in 1996 allows the Pentagon to give “surplus war material” to local police departments. Since 9/11, the Department of Homeland Security has also offered grants to local law enforcement agencies to “combat terrorism and fight the war on drugs.” As a direct result, we see situations like what we saw in Ferguson. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) will soon introduce the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act in Congress—which would end the federal government’s program of providing billions of dollars worth of military equipment to local police. It’s about time. Sign the petition to Congress: No more Fergusons. Pass the Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act.
