• Waste Management: Shame on you!
The Camden facility is wasting money that they claim they do not have for their workers to earn a fair wage. No pay raises for 2 yrs. Claiming their drivers are "the highest paid in the industry", while failing to realize the industry, as a whole, is underpaid!!! A new 55" flatscreen TV was bought & is collecting dust in the break room. New O.B.U. ( On Board Units ) were bought when there were O.B.U's already in the trucks. Company spent money on "drivecam"- Cameras mounted in vehicles to watch their employees behind the wheel. Many have been fired for "events" behind the wheel. Some justified, Many were not. New cell phones were bought when there were already cell phones in use. Also, Medical bennefits are getting worse every year. The District Manager said "benefits are based on a 55 hour work week". Many aren't working 55 hrs. per week to be able to afford healthcare. Not to mention Waste Management owed Wheelabrator was just sold for 1.94 BILLION dollars. Share holders & management are benefitting from major profits & squeezing their employees dry. Employees are the backbone of the company.

  • Justice for Milt Olin
As a cyclist in Los Angeles this issue hits close to home. If a wealthy politically connected white man like Milt Olin can be run down with impunity by incompetent law enforcement, what hope is there for anyone else in this city? This deputy has shown in a very real and tragic way that people are incapable of driving while distracted, and doing so essentially weaponizes your vehicle.

  • Stop "On-Call" & Weekly Scheduling
On-call scheduling is now used by many retailers, and it is unfair and treats retail workers as commodities rather than human beings. If you are only able to get 15 - 20 hours at one retailer then you have to get a second job to break even and fill in the gaps that food stamps and housing grants don't pay. That is impossible the way that retailers use on-call scheduling.

  • John Boehner and The House Republicans Should Not Use ANY Tax Payer Monies for the Lawsuit Agains...
There are so many important things that our Congress should be tackling for our country. I don't think I have to spell it out for our representatives that they are lacking in getting important issues solved, as in Infrastructure, climate change, raising the minimum wage, removing subsidies for large corporations, stopping the toxic oil spills & poisoning of our citizens from fracking. The Republicans make up stories about this and that, (Benghazi) 501(c)4 that should NOT be used for political contributions, and you know it. The IRS investigation is and was a waste of time & money. We, the American people, want our money back that has been wasted. Ted Cruz needs to pay back all the money wasted with his government shutdown and Darrell Issa needs to payback the American people for the monies he has wasted. And, NO funds from the taxpayers should be used for any lawsuit against our president! A lawsuit against our president is un-American and is treason.

  • Do not confirm Abercrombie's picks to Land Use Commission
Neil Abercrombie was elected Governor of Hawaii with the help of the environmental community. Once elected, he abandoned good environmental principles and pushed things like the Public Lands Development Corporation. He angrily called environmentalists the "left-wing Tea Party." He went down to the largest defeat ever in the 2014 election, when environmentalists turned their backs on him. Don't let Abercrombie's actions threaten good land use in Hawai'i.

  • Guarantee Minimum Hospital Staffing
I am a nurse with 35 years experience. I work at Christus St. Vincent hospital. I am a member of District 1199NM National Health Care Union of Hospital and Heath Care Employees. Parts of the hospital are chronically understaffed. This is a health and safety issue for both the patients and the staff. As part of contract negotiations 1199NM has asked for a guaranteed minimum level of staffing. The hospital administration is refusing to negotiate this. This is possible to do. California currently has a law mandating staffing levels. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine concluded “staffing of RNs below target levels was associated with increased mortality.” The Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania had the same finding.

  • Save the Iwarimie Family from the Bottom-Feeders at Garside Homes!
In 2003, Ezekiel Iwarimie and his wife, Chioma, purchased their little piece of the “American Dream”– a home in the South Ward of Newark. Like many hard-working families trapped in inflated mortgages with predatory lending schemes the Iwarimies struggled, especially after Ezekiel lost his job as a social worker in 2009 and the family had to rely on Chioma’s income as a nurse. Unfortunately, predatory lending practices also sprouted a new bottom feeder industry of profiteers. Last year Garside Homes bought the Iwarimie family’s loan from an online scratch and dent site at a huge discount. Garside knew the family had already gone into foreclosure, but they saw dollar signs and moved quickly to make a profit from Ezekiel’s misfortune. The Iwarimies tried in good faith to negotiate a modification with Garside to save their home, but Garside refused. Instead, Garside sent two men to the home to threaten the family and demand that they turn over the original note to their home. Now, Garside has scheduled a sheriff’s sale of the Iwarimie’s home in the South Ward of Newark. Garside paid pennies on the dollar for the Iwarimie’s home…now they’re demanding the family pay them $418,000 or they lose their home! Please stand with the Iwarimie family and sign this petition!
