As a daughter of holocaust survivors, sending the childeren back reminds me of the horrors of WWII when shiploads of Jews were turned away and returned to Europe for certain death. We are better than that. Hopefully, the US learned from that experience.

I have a graduate degree from an HBCU and I believe these institutions are vital to our community. This move is a blatant Trojan horse and must be stopped.

I am a Certified Nursing Assistant who has been twice sued for eviction due to loss of pay from being sick from viruses and bugs acquired at my job. I have almost 10 years of experience and still have not earned the right to be sick from working with sick people and seeing that my state is fighting against my personal health and financial situation just makes me ashamed of my family for letting me be born in this state. Two years ago Betty Yee decided to run for Controller. The seat would be open and, for Betty Yee, who is a recognized and well-respected expert in budget, taxation and fiscal policy, the job was a perfect fit. The campaign was going very well. Everyone was happy. (See www.bettyyee.com) Then, almost a year later, John Perez, termed out and looking for a place to land, decided that HE wanted to run for Controller! With Betty’s STRONG GRASSROOTS SUPPORT this proved to be no easy task. For years Betty has not only been a leader in her fields of budget, finance and tax policy – she had also been a leader on important issues including enacting state tax equity for same sex couples, expanding open space preservation with tax relief, updating state tax rules to promote a green economy and offering free resources to small businesses. Because there were two Democrats splitting the vote, the Republican won first place with Betty Yee coming in second ahead of Perez who is in third place. The election was certified. As the WINNING DEMOCRAT, Betty Yee was endorsed by the Democratic Party. BUT then Perez called for a recount of THE PRECINCTS IN WHICH HE THOUGHT HE MIGHT FIND SOME VOTES. A Democrat challenging a fellow Democrat – not good for Democratic Party! First he entered into a race in which a much loved, highly qualified and progressive Democrat was already running AND when he lost he demanded a recount. Companies and union leaders want to get rid of the NO CUT BACK provision in the current ERSA laws. If they change the laws it would affect ALL workers in the United States.

Kofi Ajabu has spent over a decade in solitary and still experiences solitary as of this writing. And he is not the only Indiana inmate suffering from this condition. The abuses of solitary confinement are now being litigated in the Federal Courts, and reviewed in Congressional hearings. The treatment of inmates has become the subject of international reviews of this nation's human rights record. DOC present policies require an hour of daily exercise and regular access to personal hygiene for every inmate held there. In many instances these policies are ignored. As a result inmates for whom you are responsible have gone weeks without a shower or an hour in the exercise yard. We assert that these practices compound the torture inherent in long periods of solitary confinement and are inconsistent with the values of a state Constituted to "insure justice to all;" and that no "cruel and unusual punishments be inflicted".
