We are concerned that gun ownership has gotten way out of hand and that there aren't enough Constitutional limitations on gun ownership. The 2nd Amendment is outdated as it was written when people owned MUSKETS. We need an updated amendment that reflects the realities of modern society and gun technology and that protects innocents from gun violence through restrictions on the types of weapons that can be owned, levies insurance of gun owners to cover the cost of those who are wounded or killed by guns, and protections for non-gun owners against the increasing threat of gun violence.

For years, Navy sonar has been killing whales and dolphins on coastlines around the world, including the United States, the Bahamas, the Canary Islands, and Greece. Now it’s happened again! In April, beaked whales mass-stranded and died during U.S. Navy joint exercise offshore of Crete – the 4th time that sonar trainings have caused catastrophic strandings in these same waters. The killing must stop! A year and a half ago, more than half a million of us joined our voices in protest by signing a petition to deny the Navy permits for expanded sonar and explosives exercises in whale habitats off U.S. coastlines. The U.S. Fisheries department rubber-stamped the Navy’s request and issued the permits anyway. Now it time for us to go directly to the top of the command chain and demand that the President invoke his constitutional powers to stop this senseless slaughter. Article 2 of the U.S. Constitution gives the President, as Commander-in-Chief, direct command over the army and the navy, as well as responsibility for "taking care that the laws are faithfully executed." With a stroke of his pen, by Executive Order, the President can direct his Secretary of the Navy to cease all sonar training in whale habitats. And he can direct the head of National Marine Fisheries Service, the federal agency charged with enforcing the laws intended to protect whales, to revoke the Navy’s permits to conduct sonar trainings until it puts real safety measures in place. The Navy has reluctantly agreed to conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Statements on all its U.S. coastal ranges – but not on foreign ranges where it trains. That’s why tragedies like the mass stranding in Crete are doomed to be repeated – unless you and I take action and convince the President to end the U.S. Navy's war on whales and dolphins, once and for all! On June 18, 2014 the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office cancelled the trademark for the Washington Redskins, ruling the name is “disparaging to Native Americans”. It’s just another sign that the public is realizing that the “R” word is as racist as the “N” word. The word is never used by Native Americans to speak about each other, but as a slur for others to mock them. It is derived from the days when bounty hunters took part in Indian extermination and when they were paid for every “redskin” or scalp they could bring in. The owner of the team, Dan Snyder, is on record as saying he will “never” change the team name. The NFL Commissioner has not taken action to remove the team ownership from Snyder. This is in contrast to the actions of the NBA which is taking strong action against a team owner for merely a personal and private expression of prejudice. The situation is intolerable. It is inconceivable that African-Americans, Jews or any group that suffered massive intolerance and violence would in 21st century be openly ridiculed as being a mascot. If moral appeals to Dan Snyder don't work we should try to affect him by reducing the size of his pocketbook.

Right now, if a woman serving abroad in the Peace Corps is raped and needs abortion care, she’s on her own. That’s because federal law does not allow abortion coverage for women in the Peace Corps – even in cases of rape, incest, or when her very life is threatened. The U.S. Senate is leading the charge to end this inhumane policy, but without support from the House this outdated rule will continue to unfairly punish women in the Peace Corps. Tell your representative to cover abortion care for Peace Corps volunteers who’ve survived rape or incest, or whose very life is threatened during pregnancy.

Our GA shelters are over run with unwanted kittens and puppies (and adult dogs and cats) . Making it mandatory to all Ga residents to spay/neuter their pets will eliminate unwanted puppies and kittens in over crowded shelters. Helping to end euthanization of animals.

I think it's about time that politicians be accountable. What's more, they should be more educated about what it is they are hired by the American people to do. This is one way to determine how qualified they are to be in, or run for office.

This week Starbucks announced that they were making college free for their employees. Turns out, it was a PR stunt promoting online college and not paying upfront for college. They employees are still left having to shell out money to pay for college, meanwhile Starbucks is getting wall to wall positive PR for free college. They are a very profitable company and can afford to invest in their employees and make college free for all their employees. I have a lot of student loan debt so I know what a life changer it would be if Starbucks invest in their employees fully.
