I work part-time for a non-profit for a senior program providing resources and information. If we allow Comcast and Verizon to move on and leave all of us behind, it would be devastating.

I use the internet to inform myself when I need to make decisions, for entertainment, and to stay in touch with my grown children, grandchildren and friends. Working at a non-profit special education school, my income has not kept pace with the cost of living, since my state sets the rates we charge for our services, and often allows no increase at all. My pay has been eroded over the years, but the cost of internet and cable TV have continued to rise, despite "introductory" rate deals for new customers. I recently dropped cable TV to reduce my costs, and pay to stream what I want to watch. Verizon and Comcast are the only options for high speed internet service where I live, and I was shocked to find out how much they are charging without any competition. Please curb this virtual monopoly, and ensure that all Americans have affordable access to information and entertainment.

I was on CA state unemployment benefits for 26 weeks after losing my job last year, then was on federal unemployment for 2 weeks, then that was cut off when the federal government cut off federal unemployment benefits for everyone at the end of Dec 2013. I have survived on savings and some contract work, but many people have exhausted all their savings and all their options. There are now 1.5 million unemployed people in California, with over half not receiving any safety-net benefits at all. There are not enough jobs for all the people who want them. We need to create many hundreds of thousands of jobs, but as an emergency measure we need to throw people a lifeline and extend their state UI benefits. Having so many unemployed with no safety net is a terrible drag on the California economy. People are losing their personal savings, retirement savings, cars, ability to pay utilities, and some have even lost their houses. These all damage our communities. This can all be prevented, if we want it to. And, unemployment benefits return $1.49 for every $1 spent, so it's a very good investment.

I am a programmer for the government and an Ebay seller, so a fair and fast Internet is essential to my livelihood and quality of life. Don't allow companies such as Verizon and AT&T to give preference to some and slow it down for the rest of us.

To bring about knowledge of the blatant distruction of our POLLINATORS and how important it is we STOP big companies from destroying our future for profit.

I run a start-up company with little capital. I believe my potential customers will be drawn away from my site if it is much slower than sites of larger companies who can afford the higher price of a faster Internet.

I depend on the internet for almost every facet of my daily life--from work to taking care of my family to paying bills, etc. Without access to the internet (or with a slower internet) I would not be able to do a lot of things that living life on-the-go necessitates. I keep in touch with family and friends; attend school; do research and, transact business with creditors and my business clients. The internet is the most valuable resource for my family and myself.

My God, it's the only level playing field left. I hope to launch a website soon to sell a product that I created . I can't afford a TV commercial or hire a sales force . I need the internet. Also my wife and daughter became very sick and we were able to research medicines and Doctors and reviews. I have been educated to many real life important issues by Moveon and other sites INVALUABLE!

The Problem: In New York State it is legal practice to withhold information pertinent to criminal cases from a defendant and his defense attorney until the very moment of trial. This is not because the information is unavailable; it is because the prosecution does not have to turn over such information earlier. For example, prosecutors are not required by law to hand over police reports, prior testimony, and any other evidence to the defendant until trial begins, and in some cases, not until the first witness takes the stand. A prosecutor does not even have to turn over evidence that might help a defendant or cast doubt on his guilt unless the prosecutor thinks it is important. This practice costs both taxpayers and the judicial system a great deal of time and money. The Solution: We request that the New York State Senate repeal Criminal Procedure Law Article 240 and enact Criminal Procedure Law Article 245. Such amendment would require that both the prosecution and defense attorney(s) provide each opposing parties with extensive discovery early in a criminal case. In addition, CPL Article 245 would include a mechanism for prosecutors with legitimate concerns about the safety of their witnesses or with on-going investigations to withhold or redact any evidence or information covered by the statute and to move for a protective order.

I am starting this petition to help clean up our planet and avoid plastic bottle overuse.

Jeanine Howard has just told every rape survivor, don't report your rape. She needs to be removed from the bench. She sentenced a rapist found guilty in a Texas court of law and who PLEAD GUILTY to raping a 14 year old girl to 45 days in jail and community service in a rape crisis center. Community service in a rape crisis center for a rapist is not justice and sends the wrong message to all survivors everywhere. Please sign this petition and share it with everyone you know. We need to have Judge Jeanine Howard removed from the bench. The chances of a rapist actually ending up in court and found guilty of rape is dismal. Then to give a convicted rapist access to more already victimized women, as a term of his conviction, is unconscionable. Because, especially if you've had multiple sex partners and an abortion, you pretty much gave consent with your past sexual behavior and you will not get justice. This is an incredibly important issue to address right this minute. Thank you.

I use the internet to access a wide variety of views, information, and vendors. I am extremely alarmed about how our lawmakers are equating money with speech and promoting the speech of those with money and suppressing the speech and opportunities of those without. This is a disaster for equality in America. This is another example of money buying exclusive access to our political and economic system. It must be stopped to preserve our democracy and free enterprise system.
