  • Frankfort Plant Board Monopoly
    Being residents of Frankfort we do not want a monopoly of the TV cable, Internet service, water, sewer and electric any longer. We protest the actions of the state mixing with private services and making as much money as they can from not only taxes, but from the services they provide. Competition is the right of every business and the Frankfort plant board prevents it. The Frankfort Plant board knows if they had competition they would lose customers. Please sign this petition so we can show the we will not stand for this any longer. Competition in business is democracy, and democracy is what we want.

  • Representative Clark: Stand Up for Net Neutrality
    Net Neutrality is an issue that matters deeply to Massachusetts. We are a state full of colleges and tech start-ups, and we rely on the internet for so much of what we do. Allowing ISPs to set up "fast lanes" for big businesses threatens the internet as a whole, but especially our small businesses just starting out. Gutting Net Neutrality is bad for culture, bad for the future, and bad for job creation in our state.

    I've been using the internet since 1994, and have always appreciated how versatile and robust it is precisely because of how it was designed to be open and accessible in equal measures to everyone. My occupation for the last few years is directly linked to the Internet, given that I monitor and administer wifi Internet networks for several low-income housing developments. As a result, it is especially important to me as well as to the residents with whom I work that the Internet continue to be fairly maintained without "pay-to-play" schemes and undue influence from telecommunications companies.

    I am a small business owner, a residential interior designer to be exact, and I'm struggling to stay in the game since my target clients (upper middle class) are hesitating to invest in home furnishings. I compete with other local designers for a smaller segment of clients. Paying more for Internet services so that my website can be accessible could break what I've worked so hard to build.

    The US government currently provides annual subsides to carbon based industries in excess of $200 billion. This includes such industries as oil, natural gas, and coal. These industries are already very profitable and do not warrant this support. We propose these subsides instead be redirected to clean, renewable energy sources which will strengthen our energy independence and provide lasting jobs transforming our energy grid to use renewable energy sources.

    Small businesses need an open internet to stay competitive on-line against the big boxes. Non-profits need an open internet to stay viable in fundraising and getting their messages out. Individual users need an open internet to avoid higher costs and loss of access.
