Just as the executive branch is subject to review by Congress, so should the Supreme Court be subject to review by the "people's House".

The media is not reporting on 4 million unemployed people having their unemployment benefits cut, being described as 'lazy' and Congress is refusing to act.

If our government is supposed to be democratic and of and for the people, then the Congress of the United States has become the weakest link in our government by bending to the will of corporate influence. Business people deserve a vote like everyone else, but they don’t deserve their own private Congressperson or legislature.

I am starting this petition because I am a parent of a son who is serving 17 years in federal prison for non-violent drug offender. I am hoping I can get enough people to sign this petition in hopes to reduce my son and others non-violent drug offenders.

New Hampshire Addicts are denied access to treatment on a daily basis. They are put on endless waiting lists and this is inhumane. Addiction is a disease and should be treated as such. Resources for Addicts and their family members is almost non existent here in NH. Prisons are overflowing with addicts, and yet there are no programs for treatment in place. I am the mother of a recovering addict and an advocate for all whom this disease has touched.

CVS/Caremark was the first chain of national pharmacies to take tobacco products off the shelves, but this should be just the beginning. Now we need to encourage other national drugstores to follow suit. "We have been evaluating this product category for some time to balance the choices our customers expect from us with their ongoing health needs," Walgreens spokesman Jim Graham said back in February. They need to hear from us that this is what their customers want. Cigarettes cause more than 480,000 deaths annually in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

I am starting this petition to give awareness about the flaws within our justice system. There are a lot of women using our legal system to gain child support for personal reasons, like revenge against the fathers. Proof should have to be provided to the courts proving that the father does support the child financially. Instead what is happening is the courts are ordering the fathers to pay child support of 17% of their earnings with little to no facts supporting the mothers claim. I also believe that depending on the school the child attends, child care should be included within the support cost and not additionally. I also think the standard 17% needs to be adjusted per individual. The 17% hinders the middle class working fathers not allowing them to bond and connect with their child due to excessive working to compensate for the support being rendered to the mother. This is only further effecting the child. I just would like to restate my position with this petition which is not to disagree with financial support needing to be provided for children, but to provide awareness about the injustice in our family court justice system and a move for change within it.

I am starting this petition because we need justice. Lamethia Mccollum wss my sister and when she was murdered it was 2 days before her Scheduled C section the baby was full term and died as a direct result of the gunshot wounds in the head of the woman that wad carrying her we buried the baby in her arms. The murderer should pay for what he did mia was full term and we need justice for vicky and mia my beautiful nieces

California voters can make a major statement to the nation that Congress needs to pass a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizen United and make a simple declaration: Corporations aren't People and Money isn't Speech. The Overturn Citizens United Act (Senate Bill 1272) will put a proposition on this November's ballot so voters can make that statement. The Senate has acted – now it's the Assembly's turn. Sign our petition to the Assembly to pass it today.

On May 19, the Walt Disney Magnet Local School Council voted to move our school day start time to 7:30 am, with only one dissenting vote. The LSC made this decision with little advance notice and without conducting a survey of parents, and despite the overwhelming opposition of parents in attendance at the meeting. The reason given for this decision was that substantial savings of more than $200,000 would be made available to Disney. While this is a significant amount, the savings are outweighed by the higher costs that the earlier start time will impose on our children and our families: a) Tardiness will increase dramatically. On many days, even in good weather, some 50-100 students are waiting in line to enter the building at 8:10 am. In winter the numbers are often far higher. With only 15 minutes between the earliest drop-off and the opening of doors to students, traffic jams are unavoidable. Because Disney students come from across the city, an earlier start time will only aggravate these problems. b) Student safety will be at risk. From mid-December through early February, dawn will come less than half an hour before the school doors open. This will be hazardous for those who walk to school and those walking from the parking lots. Those who take the bus will be waiting in the cold and near total darkness, putting their safety at risk as well. c) The day will be too long for young children. For children in after-school programs at Disney, the Park District and elsewhere, the day will be significantly longer, as working parents will still be unable to pick up their children until 5:30 or 6:00 pm. Given the earlier start time, students will be out of their homes as much as 12 or more hours per day. This will cause increase stress and fatigue for children and limit family time, as bedtimes will have to be earlier as well.

Colleen Simon had her dream job, working at her church to feed hungry families. It was a job, she says, "I was called to by God." And then last week, she was fired because she is married to another woman. Colleen has devoted her life to helping the hungry. She's in a loving, committed relationship. Even now, she bears no ill will toward her church, instead praying for "the day when we are all loved and embraced by our churches." If Colleen Simon is not fit to serve the poor at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Kansas City, no one is. One of Pope Francis's top bishops in Italy recently called for including gay Christians in church life, less than a year after Francis himself called for a new tone. But the local bishop, Robert Finn, seems not to have gotten the message.

Honolulu has already banned foam containers with chlorofluorocarbons, due to health concerns. It’s time to go one step further in protecting our land. Polystyrene foam containers are still made with the carcinogen styrene and do not break down safely, leaving our beaches and land scattered with toxic foam bits and endangering species that try to consume the foam. On May 28, 2014, I introduced Bill 40 in the City Council. This bill would ban food vendors from the use of any polystyrene foam containers. The Bill requires that all disposable food service containers must be made of compostable material that will break down into usable compost in a safe and timely manner without leaving any toxic residue. This new regulation will apply to all disposable food service containers from a restaurant or takeout food operation as packaging to serve or transport food. This will include plates, cups, bowls, trays, and hinged or lidded containers. I’m asking my colleagues on the City Council to pass this bill without delay!
