• Add a Public Option to the Affordable Care Act
The government should organize a "Federal Health Insurance Corporation" along the lines of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (for banks) to provide health insurance. Premiums should be set just high enough to cover the costs of providing benefits and adjusted regularly. This would make the F.H.I.C. revenue neutral, yet would provide significant savings for those who elect to purchase health insurance through this public option.

  • Stop the Repeal of the Property Tax Credit in Missouri
The tax credit allows low-income, elderly or those 100% disabled to claim a portion of their rent as a tax credit. In 2012,107,000 Missourians claimed the credit, totaling $57 million. The average person is able to receive $450 a year. The maximum credit is $750. Advocates of the credit point out that it leaves the money with the recipient to direct to their specific needs rather than have that money go to a fund to be distributed as lawmakers determine. Many who receive the credit say it is essential for them, as it is used to supplement their income for items including utility bills, non-covered health care procedures and more. The Circuit Breaker Tax Credit program was first established as an amendment to the Missouri Constitution in 1972 by a direct vote of Missouri citizens and has been upheld by each legislature.

  • Child Protective Services: A Broken System
Child Protective Services has a history of causing harm to families leaving children vulnerable to potential dangers. They fail to thoroughly investigate claims and provide assistance to families seeking help. CPS violated my Constitutional and Patental Rights after requesting services for my daughter's psychological welfare. This resulted with the supervisor granting my daughter permission to leave the state to reside with her father. Her father has had no relationship with her since the age of three. She is now seventeen years of age. This is another example of Their broken system. Please join me in taking a stand for parents that parent and do not abuse.

  • Child Gang Rapists are Walking Free in Florence, SC
Rape is a traumatizing experience for the victim. It is a brutal and dehumanizing violation with lifelong damaging effects. The violence and humiliation involved can take years to recover from, sometimes the victim never recovers. A gang rape is often described as an attack involving 2 or more rapists. This is a life altering experience for any victim, especially a minor of 13 years of age. A child is forcibly raped by 2 adult men in Florence, SC on the evening of 02/08/2013. The victim's mother did what she felt was the correct thing to do and contacted the Florence Police Department. Instead of an eager to serve response, the mother and the rape victim were disrespected and treated in an unprofessional manner. Adding insult to injury, there was not a thorough investigation of the crime scene and the perpetrators are allowed to walk the streets among law abiding citizens. Over the past year the family has been bullied and harassed by the alleged rapists and their families. Due to the poor judgement made by the investigating officer; the rapists felt above the law. Their bullying and harassment has caused the victim and her family to move four times and withdraw the victim from public school to be homeschooled to escape the constant bullying. The victim who should be focusing on learning algebra or planning her next slumber party must live with the constant fear of additional attacks and victimization. The child suffers from nightmares, bullying, fear and distrust of the system created to "protect and serve" the community she lives in. Her mother feeling helpless and not knowing where else to turn has turned to me ... a child advocate, a victim professional, a crime fighter, a survivor but most importantly a MOTHER. A mother to children who I would give my life to protect. As a mother, it is important to me that violent child rapists and offenders are brought to justice and removed from our streets. As a citizen, it is important to me that the institutions created to protect our families; do just that...protect. Please take the time to sign this petition requesting case number 2013-001355 be reopened and correctly investigated. Contact the Florence Police Department and ask to speak to Maj Carlos Raines at 843-676-8800 1. Ask him why two child rapist who admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor are still allowed to walk the streets of Florence, SC putting everyone's children at risk. 2. Ask him why there was not a thorough crime scene investigation. 3. Ask him why these rapist, at the minimum, where not charged and held on Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor in the second degree. The South Carolina Criminal Code Code §16-3-655 states "Elements of the Offense: i. (B) A person is guilty of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree if: (1) the actor engages in sexual battery with a victim who is fourteen years of age or less but who is at least eleven years of age. 4. • Save the Music in Readington Township Schools
On May 6, 2014 the Readington Township BOE is planning to eliminate a music teaching position at the K-5 level. With a cut like this, the quality of our district's music program will rapidly decline. It is time to let school administrators and board members know that it is not acceptable to put arts education on the back burner.

  • Add a Public Option to the Affordable Care Act
We need to do everything possible to control the cost of health care. Even with reductions mandated by the Affordable Care Act, private, for-profit health insurance companies add 15-20% to the cost of health care in the United States of America without adding anything in terms of quality or quantity of health care. This compares to the 3% overhead of the Medicare program.

  • Douglas County Proposed Rate Increases
Rates are not reasonable: Our service has not increased, our roads have fallen further apart, and we have nitrate problems that have not been addressed. The Carson Valley Utility Fund has been depleted since we were” consolidated” with the West Valley systems. We have been asked to pay more to improve the account numbers with no assurance that future requirements will not be funded out of the reserves. Our rates in the past, are the highest in the County. Those rates built the reserves, only to have the reserves used for purposes not fully explained. Once we were consolidated we saw a further erosion of the reserves. When the systems were consolidated, rates were raised again, and in fact showed an excess over forecasted reserves. As soon as the additional revenues were realized, as study was commissioned to deplete those additional revenues—a study that is supports a small area of the West side which did not have sufficient reserves to cover the expense. Rates are Subsidized. Rates in other county systems are subsidized. Within the County systems are subsidized both with general fund monies as well as individual tax districts for other systems. The East Valley Utility reserves and when combined with the West Valley systems actually subsidized those systems with inferior reserves. The combined resultant system was then not subsidized from any fund within the county and yet it is held to different standard when it comes to reserves and depreciation. Rates are Discriminatory: Specifically as concerns water, water Customers in the East Valley system pay usage fees, while others with the system and other county systems pay no usage fees. It is discriminatory to require usage fees of some customers, and not all customers. The East Side ratepayers rates are being increased to fund projects not involving the East side. There is no plan to solve the nitrate problem ( as detailed by the USGS nitrate study) or to provide service to the 917 homes in the Johnson lane area identified by the Master Plan who are on wells and septic, according to the Master Plan. There is no plan detailing through 2019 where the increased and what problems will be solved. All we know is the accounts our money goes into can be spent on any item (s) the Director of Public works decides on, and when more money is needed, simply raise the rates. Moreover, the increases planned for water, sewer and roads are discriminatory. While other County systems are either stable (GID’s and Towns) with no increases we are facing increases over five years of 41.25 %, and property taxes are forecast to increase another 15% over the same period for a total increase of 56.25% in charges to Carson Valley Utility Customers. Since the County has used our reserves to fund capital expenses and continues to use the reserves as savings account for capital expenditures for other systems, we are asking the County to provide: a. Freeze or cap rates for at least 3 years b. The County then has times to create a long range plan on how they intend: 1. Define what county utilities includes now and in the future 2. Create the current and future management systems for utilities. 3. That provides for physical consolidation of water and sewer systems and a county waste management system. 4. The problems the systems face and provide for solutions with a time line. 5. How they intend to build rates to solve the problems and depreciation 6. Provide for capital expenditures and when those would be needed 7. How they would build a depreciation account.
