How do you put a price tag on democratic access to the powerful medium of television? For the last three decades, Tucsonans have been lucky enough not to have to answer that question. For nearly 30 years, Access Tucson Community Media has offered an open forum for recording and presenting the political, artistic and cultural life of Tucson on TV, including the City's own information channel, Channel 12. And the best part? Access Tucson is funded through cable franchise fees and donations, NOT CITIZEN’S TAX DOLLARS. The only contribution the City makes is a small operating budget as well as the building space Access Tucson shares with Channel 12. Unfortunately, the recent 2015/2016 budget proposed to City government would eliminate all funding for Access Tucson and force it to shut its doors as of June 30, 2014. If Access Tucson dies, we ALL lose an irreplaceable community resource, including a 30 year video archive of Tucson history created by Tucsonans, a free and accessible community media education center & gathering space, and a one of a kind resource for "newbies" to learn how to produce, create and distribute independent media. By losing the independent voices who now speak via Access Tucson, we lose not just a source of news and information, but a two way conversation between viewer and content creator, something that only non commercial community based channels can offer. This will not just be a loss for the Tucson community, but another nail in the coffin for independent media everywhere. For profit companies, whether large or small, should not be the only ones allowed to speak. We ALL need independent media. Is Tucson really willing to put a price on free speech and independent voices? Or will we remain steadfast in keeping community media accessible to all, rich or poor, popular or overlooked, young or old? This action is necessary because: 1) the proposed rule exempts all existing large water users, including utilities and agriculture, from the statutory requirement now in place to demonstrate that their use won't cause significant harm to our water resources; and, 2) the proposed rule prevents the water management districts from even considering, during the consumptive use permitting process, the impacts from these uses on our water resources. Furthermore,3) Alachua County should participate in the Public Hearing regarding the proposed MFL Rule scheduled for April 3rd in Live Oak 4) Alachua County should schedule our own Public Hearing on April 1st to accept input on the proposed MFL rule, and receive suggestions for our position on proposed bills on water-related issues 5) Alachua County should oppose the bill to exempt the MFL rule from the ratification process 6) Alachua County should authorize Staff and our Attorney to participate in the Joint Administrative Procedures Committee process

Aura will separated from her 3-year-old son Edwin. On Friday December 15, 2013, Aura was told by ICE in Baltimore, Maryland to pack her bags and say goodbye to Edwin because she will be leaving the United States of America soon. Aura has and ankle bracelet put on her on December 06, 2013 like some criminal when Aura had no criminal record. I know that the community has the power to stop separating families. You can help keep Aura with her 3-year-old son Edwin. Aura has lived in Marylan since 2004. Aura has worked really hard all of these years to provide for Edwin and to see him go to school. Aura dream is to see Edwine go to college and be an attorney, doctor, or Engineer. Aura can only dream, she is a single undocumented mother trying to make it for her son. In 2012, Aura was detained by Maryland police officers for driving without a license while Aura was working. ICE detained Aura for 4 days before being let go and then put into deportation proceedings. Aura spent 4 days in detention away from Edwin for wanting to change the future of her children. Like many of us Edwin wasn’t born in the United States of America with all of its opportunities. Aura took action and provided an opportunity for a better life for her children. In El Salvador Aura escape poverty, violence, and hopelessness for an opportunity of a better life. I would do the same and I know you would too. Please help keep Aura with her son, Edwin.

Ever wonder how JPMorgan Chase Bank makes so much money ($96 BILLION in Revenues in 2013)? One way is through Insufficient Funds Fees. What's most disturbing is HOW Chase accumulates this money: Through the unfair practice of processing any/all checks (highest amounts first, then lowest) BEFORE processing any/all deposits each night. With this policy in place, Chase customers can - if not careful - incur multiple Insufficient Funds (IF) Fees, when these fees could be minimized or negated altogether. How so? Here's an example: Let's say on Thursday night your Chase checking account has a balance of $50 but $1,000 dollars in deposits is set to come through on Friday. You also have two outstanding checks set to come through, one for $40, the other for $60. Chase will FIRST process the $60 check, which will put your balance at $-10 (and you'll be hit with a $34 IF Fee; now your balance is $-44) and THEN process the $40 check, which will extend your balance to $-84 (add another $34 IF Fee). When the dust settles, your checking account balance is at $-118 (and Chase just made $68). Only after that, will Chase process any/all deposits. As alternatives to this current policy, Chase could: A.) Process any/all deposits FIRST and then process any/all checks, or B.) At the very least, if Chase continues to process checks FIRST, do so in the order of lowest-to-highest amounts. Using the example above, if the $40 check was processed FIRST followed by the $60 check, a customer would only incur one $34 IF Fee.
