  • Reform Non-Violent Minimum Mandatory trafficking laws in Florida
The police and the prosecutors have to much power in my brothers case the police wanted my brother to give up 3 grow houses or no deal. Let the police do their jobs like in the old days with investigations rather than taking the easy way out and making deals with snitches who have their own agenda. The cop who arrested my brother coerced him into signing a consent form or he said he would arrest his wife and take away his kids by DCF and they even jumped his fence without a warrant. Police are citizens just like us supposedly to "protect and serve" in my brothers case they acted like the mafia only they had badges and guns. We have to reign in this abuse of power. Now my brother the father of 3 his oldest a Police Officer, middle child in a Jesuit private school and the youngest is still in elementary have all been deprived of being with their father for the next 3 years and has never had a violent offense in his life.

  • Support WNY schools! Stop the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).
Western New York Schools have lost millions of dollars because of a NYS government policy called the Gap Elimination Adjustment. The policy is crushing school budgets, causing major program and staff cuts. Most local school districts are facing another year of budget shortfalls and will be forced to make additional staffing cuts to their remaining faculty and support staff. Our children and students deserve better.

  • Stop Provocative American Apparel Ads
Right by my apartment there is an American Apparel billboard that always displays provocative images. I live in a neighborhood with thousands of children who all pass this billboard daily. I am tired of sitting back while companies push the envelope further and further. This needs to be stopped! There is a better way to advertise clothing than demeaning, sensual images that make women into sexual objects.

  • How many workers will die for Qatar's World Cup?
Qatar is set to host the Football World Cup in 2022 — and by that time, at least 4,000 migrant workers will have died to make the city ready. Since 2012, roughly 900 workers have already been killed working on infrastructure for the World Cup, astronomically more than have died in any construction project in recent history. It's easy to see why. Workers describe forced labor in 50C (122F) heat, employers who steal their salaries and passports, and being shuttled like cattle in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions without access to water or food. And throughout these rampant abuses, FIFA has been silent as the grave. It's time for the organizer to take a stand. Join us in calling on FIFA to send a clear message to Qatar: We will not allow the 2022 World Cup to be built on the backs of dying slaves.

  • Gay Couples In Indiana Shouldn't Be Relegated To Second Class Citizens!
This year in Indiana, Midori Fujii lost her partner of fifteen years to ovarian cancer. In the midst of grieving, she received a $300,000 bill for her home - because it was in her wife's name. It's been nearly two years since President Obama made his now famous address in support of legalizing gay marriage. But because Indiana still doesn’t recognize same-sex unions, Midori’s California marriage remains invalid. Every day without marriage equality, lives continue to be ruined. Gay marriage is currently banned in 30 states - well over half of the country! And Midori's tragic story reminds us that there are real, destructive consequences. Indiana's bigotry has punished this woman for her wife's death. Join us in demanding an end to the state’s anti-gay discrimination now!

  • The NRA Has No Place In The Nomination Process!
The NRA is at it again, accusing Obama’s nominee of Surgeon General of being a dangerous “radical” for daring to point out that gun violence like the tragedy at Sandy Hook is a health care issue. Forget that studies clearly support Dr. Vivek Murthy's claim — firearm suicides are the second leading cause of death for Americans under 35, and highest in states with high gun concentrations — Democratic Senators are already cowering in fear of the NRA's political clout even though most Americans disagree with the NRA's positions on every single issue! We have to tell these Senators to represent the interests of the majority of Americans - not this one radical special interest. Call on Senate Democrats to stop kowtowing to the radical pro-gun lobbyists and confirm Dr. Murphy as our next Surgeon General!

  • Hobby Lobby wants to ban employees from even KNOWING about birth control!
We knew Hobby Lobby was suing the government so it could put its "corporate religious beliefs" over its employees’ right to contraceptive coverage. Apparently it wasn't enough to make female employees pay out of pocket for their birth control. Now Hobby Lobby wants to ban their employees from even talking to their doctors about contraception! If Hobby Lobby wins their case in court, it won't just set back women's right to affordable health care, it'll be a major victory for the concept of "corporate personhood" over workers’ rights. Corporations shouldn't have greater constitutional rights than people, and Hobby Lobby's "religious rights" shouldn't trump the free speech and privacy rights of their employees. Tell Hobby Lobby to stop micromanaging their employees’ private lives and drop their demands for a birth control "gag rule."

  • Don't Let the FEC get Fooled by Chevron
Chevron and the FEC just created a loophole big enough to navigate an oil tanker through. It starts in 2012, when Chevron made a $2.5 million donation to a super PAC called the Congressional Leadership Fund, that is reportedly connected to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and the National Republican Congressional Committee. This should be a big no-no for a corporation that has hundreds of government contracts, because our "pay-to-play" laws prevent companies from obtaining government work by influencing elections. Supposedly. But Chevron wasn't slowed down by pesky campaign laws. Chevron asserted that the entity that made the donation, Chevron Corporation, is separate from the one that holds the contracts, Chevron U.S.A. But Mother Jones explains why that's just slight of hand: "By any normal sense Chevron Corporation and Chevron U.S.A. look like the same company. Chevron USA is a subsidiary of the brand name company. Chevron Corporation owns a 100 percent stake in Chevron U.S.A. They share the same CEO and list the same mailing address." The commission knows the facts. And yet, they bought Chevron's outrageous argument. The FEC must re-evaluate its decision and admit the truth: Chevron broke the rules.

  • Microsoft: Continue supporting Windows XP
Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing support of Windows XP, one of its most successful and popular products, as well as Office 2003. It warns of possible risks without this support, without specifying the risks or the likelihood of their occurring. Microsoft's solution: buy Windows 8 (which has gotten terrible reviews) and Office 2010. Windows XP is about 12 years old. Would any appliance or car manufacturer discontinue producing parts for used cars or appliances in such a short period of time? Would any large corporation proclaim that it is incapable of continuing to support its older products, because it needs to concentrate on supporting newer products?! Of course not! Nonetheless, this hugely profitable corporation (net worth estimate: almost $70. billion) says it does not have the ability or wherewithal to continue to support its products. Computers are no longer luxury items. In fact, Microsoft was one of the companies that helped to make PCs first ubiquitous and then indispensable. However, not everyone needs the latest model or many of the additional features of newer versions, and spending hundreds of dollars on new models that are unnecessary can be really a blow to many people. I urge Microsoft to reconsider, and allow those of us who happily utilize this excellent product to continue doing so, without threats of risk, or actual risk, just to add to its profits.
