Minnesota Child Support LawThe state of Minnesota receives federal incentives for every dollar they collect in child support. The middle class parent is stuck paying the bill. The lower income parent does not pay a significant amount of child support for the state to invest in enforcement, and the high income parents have the ability to fight the laws in court. There are three tiers used to determine the amount of child support (tier I 0% to 10%, tier II 10.1% to 45%, and tier III 45.1% and above). A non custodial parent who is with his child 45% of the month will pay the same amount as a parent that sees his child 10% (granted that the income is the same, etc.) Unless the custodial parent agrees to a high percentage of parenting time, the non custodial parent will need to prove child endangerment in order have the child support lowered. The middle class non custodial parent pays a significant amount in child support and usually is unable to afford the legal fees associated with the court system. There needs to be more tiers for non custodial parents allowing for a fairer child support determination.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Scott Pierce

Tell Georgia Governor Deal Not To Sign Gun LegislationI am appalled by the increasing epidemic of gun violence in this country. According to the New York Times, 70 laws to loosen gun restriction have been passed since the shooting the Sandy Hook school shooting. I am hoping that this petition can garner enough signatures to stop the Georgia gun law from passage.19 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carol Kahn

.@secgen, @amnesty, @hrw, @aclu: Boycott & Sanction CIA Head John BrennanThe Obama Administration is establishing a new precedent by implementing sanctions against Russian officials for violations of international law in the wake of Russia’s occupation and annexation of Crimea. Civil society organizations in the United States and around the world should invoke this precedent in calling U.S. officials to account for the U.S.'s own violations of international law. John Brennan, head of the Central Intelligence Agency, is playing a central role in shielding the agency from accountability to international law on three key issues: the CIA's use of torture during the Bush Administration; the CIA’s use of drone strikes; and the CIA’s arming of Syria rebels, which the Obama Administration has acknowledged is a violation of Syria’s sovereignty under international law, just as Russia’s actions in Crimea violate Ukraine’s sovereignty under international law.8,016 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Robert Naiman

Sign the petition: Tell big banks to stop charging ATM fees to welfare recipientsIn California—as in many other states—most recipients of the state’s welfare-to-work program receive their monthly checks through an EBT (electronic benefit transfer) card. But each time they use these cards to get cash, the banks charge them an ATM fee. A recent study found that big banks took more than $19 million out of the pockets of poor Californians in 2012. The average Calworks family lives on about $510 per month. Citibank has agreed to waive ATM fees for welfare-to-work recipients who use EBT cards, but the other big banks continue to take money away from low-income families. Sign the petition to Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase and the other big banks: Stop ripping off state funds and low-income people with your ATM fees.11,584 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Paul Hogarth

Gov. Christie: Time to follow the law on global warmingYesterday was a great day in the fight against climate change and in our efforts to ensure New Jersey is a leader in it. Environment New Jersey, along with the Natural Resources Defense Council, won in a court challenge to Gov. Christie’s unilateral -- and illegal -- removal of New Jersey from the regulations governing the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) -- a key program that has cut pollution from power plants and funded clean energy projects. The courts ruled the Christie administration must seek public comment on the decision to withdraw the state from these RGGI regulations -- and they have 60 days to start the regulatory process. The governor wanted to skirt the law by stifling public debate on important decisions that affect us all and we called him on it. (Probably because he knew people like you and I wouldn’t simply allow him to pull us out of a program that could make a huge difference for the future of our climate--and our children.) I would hope Gov. Christie follows the court’s decision – but I know this wouldn’t be the first time his administration has ignored a court ruling. New Jerseyans deserve the chance to weigh in on RGGI. Please take action now and let the Governor know.4,415 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Dan DeRosa

Hey, OCC don't discriminate against me: Tuition EqualityI work in immigration reform and I see a lot of good people being hurt by local and federal policies whose sole aim is to hurt people. In the late 1890s, Michigan's population was more than 50% foreign born, Michigan was made by DREAMERs and this @OCCollege policy does not reflect the spirit of Michigan.162 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Raquel Garcia Andersen

Tell Rep. Diaz-Balart: Sign the immigration discharge petition today!Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart has said he supports immigration reform, but it seems he’s done little to pressure Speaker Boehner to act. We know that if immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship were put up for a vote in the House, it could pass -- but Speaker Boehner refuses to budge. But there's a way to pressure Republicans like Rep. Diaz-Balart to act. House Democrats have just started a legislative procedure called a "discharge petition" to force action on immigration reform. If the nearly 30 House Republicans who support reform --- including Rep. Diaz-Balart -- join Democrats in signing this discharge petition, we can force Speaker Boehner to bring immigration to a vote, whether he likes it or not. We need Rep. Diaz-Balart to start leading and sign the discharge petition. If he really does support immigration reform, Rep. Diaz-Balart needs to act now!16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Matt Hildreth

Support the "Green Dozen" Illinois bills to limit the damage caused by frackingI am concerned that fracking wells are already being drilled in my home state of Illinois despite the fact that the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources hasn't even issued final rules for the fracking industry in Illinois yet. These Green Dozen bills will be considered in the Illinois General Assembly this spring and very soon.49 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Laura Mueller
