Restore unemployment benefits to seasonal workersI earned $22.68 too much in my high quarter to qualify for unemployment this winter and there are others who were affected with even lower amounts. As a Construction Inspector, I am required to work as the contractors do , sometimes putting in 60 to 80 hours a week in the "good weather" months, I have worked in the off season as an on call person for occasional tasks , but not enough to sustain my family. I along with others in the construction/seasonal fields sacrifice time with family, must pay for a lot of expenses on the road and feel this is a targeting of one specific group to lower the amount of people who collect unemployment when laid off through no fault of their own.1,044 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by frederick sopic

Rep. Scott Tipton Please Support Voting RightsThe Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation Congress has ever passed. Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill. Rep. Tipton should support this effort by cosponsoring, voting and fighting for a strong bill1,066 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Richard Podlesnik

Don't let the Legislature slash funding for libraries!Pima County's public libraries are vital connections to information and community. House Bill 2379 would end services like satellite libraries, weekend hours, and libraries in jails and juvenile detention - as well as dozens of full time jobs! Make sure the State Legislature knows you want the libraries open.5,962 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Sam Martin

Universal Breakfast, Universal Lunch: Every kid, every day.Universal breakfast and universal lunch are needed in U.S. schools. Currently 1 in 5 children in the United States faces hunger. The undersigned demand that child nutrition programs in U.S. schools be expanded to provide universal breakfast and universal lunch for all school children. Every child in every school should eat every day--no questions, no stigma, no accounts, and no separate meal lines for children from low-income households. --In response to recent news that the Salt Lake City school district in Utah publicly dumped children's meals into the trash in front of them because they did not have money in their lunch accounts--the district having made a decision to humiliate children with money problems, and publicly throw untouched food away rather than allow the children to be fed with it; --in response to our congress voting to cut 9 billion in food aid to needy families, while families across the nation are still reeling from a financial crisis they did not create; --in response to the story of a Georgia bus driver, Johnny Cook, losing his job over publicly expressing outrage at a child going hungry in school, while the Georgia Congressional representative Jack Kingston publicly proposed child labor for impoverished children in Georgia schools; --in response to stories like Massachusetts' Coelho Middle School cafeteria workers, who made children dump out the food from their trays without eating, because they had no money on their lunch accounts, and many similar stories springing up across the country recently-- The undersigned are disgusted and outraged. We see an alarming public trend of brutal contempt toward child hunger. We demand swift action by our representatives to condemn and counter such trends from overtaking institutions like public schools where our children are cared for and taught common values. Most of us do not know a single American family, rich or poor, who would take food from a hungry child to throw it in the trash. Many of us are old enough to have been told that wasting food was shameful and ungrateful when there were starving children in the world. Those who sign here will not allow our children or our neighbors' children to be treated with such abuse and contempt. We will not allow one-fifth of the nation's children to go hungry. Those who sign here refuse to accept the United States as a nation of children facing starvation. We will not accept that our common taxes support the profits of agricultural corporations, yet neglect the needs of the generation we are trying to raise.180 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Rachel Kubie

Betrayed by Kerry, will Obama step up to the plate?I've been in northern Alberta before the demand from US & multinational oil companies made it feasible for the oil barons to rape the land. I've seen the pictures since. Not pretty. But it is DRIVEN BY CORPORATE GREED. The State Dept report says: "Approval or denial of any one crude oil transport project ... is unlikely to significantly impact the rate of extraction in the oil sands or the continued demand for heavy crude oil at refineries in the United States." But that is UNTRUE. Not only would a denial send a strong message to Big Oil, it would protect OUR farms, OUR communities, OUR water, OUR air, OUR children. If Obama REALLY wants to lead our country against global warming, he will REFUSE to approve this pipeline.125 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Liz Amsden

Stop Dark Money Non-Profits from Hiding Their Funders!Last election secretive out-of-state non-profits connected to the Koch brothers funneled $15 million of dark money into California. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Californians deserve to know who is influencing their elections. SB 27 will make sure billionaires and corporations can't hide behind secretive non-profits. It requires any group spending $50,000 in California elections to reveal exactly who gave the money. It is a key step before passage of the California DISCLOSE Act (SB 52). The final Assembly vote on SB 27 could come any day. Join Progressives United and the California Clean Money Campaign and sign our petition today demanding that Assembly members vote YES to close the dark money loophole.2,479 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Erin Wagner, Progressives United

Investors in Herakles Farms: Stop Funding Destruction in AfricaHerakles Farms is a US agribusiness company who wants to plow through swaths of natural forest in Cameroon’s South west province and convert the area into a palm oil plantation. They have little regard for local laws, the local environment and - least of all - local communities, who have depended on the land for generations. The palm oil plantation be bad news for people. It also threatens the habitat of the chimpanzee. This forest is worth more to the people of Africa and future generations if it is left standing. Tell the people behind this reckless project to walk away and put their money somewhere else.3,083 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Ben Kroetz
