• Governor O'Malley: Oppose Fracked Gas Exports at Cove Point
We are MoveOn fracking fighters in Maryland working to keep our communities and climate safe from the biggest single new gas drilling threat on the East Coast: Cove Point. A Virginia-based company called Dominion Resources is proposing a radical detour away from Maryland’s clean energy future: They want to build a massive, $3.8 billion facility on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in southern Maryland that would liquefy and export to Asia nearly one billion cubic feet of fracked natural gas every day. This proposed Cove Point export facility would help the gas industry maximize its profits by selling gas overseas at higher prices. But the impacts for our communities and climate would be disastrous. Exporting fracked gas from Maryland would dramatically increase pressure on nearby states to expand fracking operations -- and make it harder to keep Maryland’s own fracking moratorium in place. It takes so much energy to extract, process and ship “liquefied natural gas” (LNG) that this single facility would trigger more climate pollution than all seven of Maryland’s existing coal-fired power plants COMBINED. Dominion could invest its $3.8 billion in renewable energy resources and create far more jobs. Instead, they are choosing to double-down on fossil fuels by building a new power plant, new compressor stations, and additional infrastructure to expand production and shipment of natural gas from neighboring states, through Maryland, to more lucrative foreign markets! Marylanders are fighting back -- and we need Governor Martin O’Malley, a leader who cares about climate change, to stand with us. By blocking what would be the first fracked gas export terminal on the East Coast, the Free State is in a position to set a precedent and lead the way to a clean energy future. Please sign this petition to urge Governor Martin O’Malley to oppose the fracked gas export terminal at Cove Point!

  • Demand Justice for Working Mother Unfairly Terminated from Whole Foods!
My name is Rhiannon Broschat and I've been working at Whole Foods for almost two years. Chicago experienced severe weather on Tuesday, January 28 with subzero temperatures and high windchill prompting Chicago Public Schools to close. The dangerous cold and schools closing in addition to me being a single mother, left me scrambling for childcare and unable to find anyone to watch my special needs son. As a result, I was forced to call off work to stay home to stay home and care for him. Whole Foods, instead of understanding my difficult situation, fired me. Recently, Whole Foods promised a more fair attendance policy which includes excused absences for "a metro wide weather disaster, which affects a significant number of people." I work hard every single day to make Whole Food's a thriving business, yet they claim I was abusing their attendance policy. Stand with me as I protest this unfair termination and demand that Whole Foods immediately reinstates me!

  • Dear Bayer: Fire. This. Clown.
Last month, Bayer CEO Marijn Dekkers was discussing Bayer’s new cancer-fighting drug, Nexavar, at a conference hosted by the Financial Times. Nexavar costs a scandalous $69,000 for an annual supply, and India’s patent court has taken action to make the drug available for a price that India’s people can afford. When Dekkers was asked about India’s decision his response was: “Is this going to have a big effect on our business model? No, because we did not develop this product for the Indian market, let’s be honest. We developed this product for Western patients who can afford this product, quite honestly." Join us in sending a message to Bayer and Marijn Dekker that their racist policies and corporate class warfare will not be tolerated: it's time to fire Marijn Dekker and make cancer-fighting medication affordable to those who need it.

  • Stop Dark Money Non-Profits from Hiding Their Funders!
VICTORY! Governor Brown has now signed SB 27, the bill to force Dark Money non-profits to reveal their secret funders in California elections! As California Clean Money Campaign President Trent Lange said afterwards in the Sacramento Bee: “Governor Brown’s signature of SB 27 marks a turning point in the fight to reveal secret funders of political campaigns. It starts to shed light on dark money in California and serves as an example for the entire nation." Your petitions and calls worked! SB 27 became law after more than 40,000 people like you signed petitions. More than a thousand people applied extra pressure by calling their legislator. SB 27 was a great coalition effort in which the California Clean Money Action Fund worked with not only the bill author Senator Lou Correa, the sponsor FPPC, and our CA campaign finance friends at California Common Cause, California Forward, and the League of Women Voters of California; but also with national organizations like Public Citizen, CREDO Mobile, Courage Campaign, Progressives United, Represent.Us, causes.com, MoveOn.org, Money Out Voters In Coalition, MapLight, Label GMOs: California's Grassroots, Lutheran Office of Public Policy - California, Moms Across America, and others. Thanks to everybody who signed and helped us achieve this historic victory! PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME TO THE PETITION and we'll tell you how you can help pass other crucial bills to end the dominance of Big Money in politics, like SB 52, the California DISCLOSE Act and SB 1272, the Overturn Citizens United Act. -- Your friends at the California Clean Money Campaign (www.CAdisclose.org)

  • Rep. Fortenberry, Restore the Voting Rights Act and Let Every Citizen Vote!
The current behavior of some election officials and politicians is acting to deny poor, people of color, women and others the right to vote. Without the federal government's ability to oversee local election provisions, this situation will push American voting rights back over 100 years.

  • Tell Animal Planet: Don't abuse animals for ratings and profit!
Animal Planet claims that its hit reality show, "Call of the Wildman," is saving the animals it features. However, the truth is the program has engaged legally and ethically dubious animal-handling practices to boost its ratings and profit. Animal Planet relies on the viewing public for ratings and profits, so we need to let them know we are paying attention!

  • Petition to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & FERC on proposed Bluegrass Hazardous Liquids pipeline
Kentucky is blessed with abundant water resources, the safeguarding of which is essential to the success of our farms and cities, our industries and businesses, to our public health and the well-being of our communities. Thorough analysis of routing alternatives and of the direct, indirect, and cumulative effects of the proposed “Bluegrass Pipeline” project is essential to protecting the public and land, air, and water resources from adverse effects of the construction and re-purposing of pipelines for this project.

  • Let's keep Massachusetts healthcare moving forward with a public option!
In Massachusetts, three insurance companies have a combined market share of nearly 70% of the health insurance market. Having a meaningful number of options available to Massachusetts families is a necessary component of a health care system that can control costs. Having a public option would give Massachusetts families more choices. In addition, a public plan could operate without excessive administrative and marketing costs, high executive salaries or a need to generate profits. As a result, a public option could provide a good deal for consumers and keep pressure on private insurers to keep their policies affordable and treat their customers well by acting as a benchmark for affordability and quality of care. As proud as I am of the progress we've made in Massachusetts on health care, we still have a ways to go. Establishing a public option is one more step we can take to make sure that every resident has access to the best possible health care in the Commonwealth.

Everyone should be concerned about lower electricity bills and breaking up the monopoly electricity providers in Florida. U.S. Congressional FERC Order 888 dated from 1998 DEREGULATION OF ELECTRICITY in America. • STAY A MILE AWAY. PROTECT OUR CHILDREN
The Marcellus shale layer is radioactive. Radon can escape every time a well is drilled. Some of the drilling and compressing chemicals are carcinogenic, toxic or neurotoxic. Thousands of industrial compounds are not tested for their risk to human health. No driller is required to reveal what chemicals they are using or when. We do not have the knowledge, testing equipment, or experience to protect our children. This highly industrial activity imposed by ACT 13 should not be allowed to put our children in harms way. No permission slips were sent home. Tell school officials, State representatives, the Governor, and the President. No Marcellus Shale risky behavior next to our schools and our children. PASS LEGISLATIVE PROTECTION NOW. NO PERMISSION GRANTED. STAY A MILE AWAY. For more information go to web site LINK Protect Our Children
