• Stop Deportation Process - Victor Gonzales-Belleza
I am the director of the Human Rights Center, and we have learned in the past about ICE's practices - non-transparent and without accountability. Victor has a wife and 4 young children. This is urgent because deportation is inevitable and will be fast..

  • Hold Republicans Responsible for Sabotaging Obamacare / Affordable Care Act Implementation
I am starting this petition to protect the Affordable Care Act / Obamacare and also to ensure that the public knows that the Republicans have caused many of the law´s implementation problems. Democrats need to stop apologizing for the health care website problems. They should immediately go on the offensive and do two things. 1- Publicly shame the Republicans who have tried to dismantle, defund or otherwise harm the Affordable Care Act / Obamacare; and 2- Clearly articulate the benefits of the law. There are 100s of video clips that show rabid Republicans gleefully bragging about how they will dismantle Obamacare and wishing that it would fail. The public needs to see these so that they can understand the duplicitous nature of the Repulicans on this issue. I strongly believe that if Democratic leaders across the nation, including President Obama and an unleashed Vice President Biden, came out fighting- with "guns blazing" - for the health care law and against the Republicans, it would invigorate Democrats and potentially re-set the national discourse to focus on the benefits of the law and help educate the public.

  • Tell Police Chief Lanier: Give Adam Kokesh His 6th Amendment Rights
This isn't about guns. This isn't about left vs right, or whether you like Kokesh or not. This is about human rights. Adam Kokesh is being imprisoned in DC for loading a gun on Youtube. He is being held without bond, without trial, and without bail. He was beaten and his home invaded. For 2 months he was in solitary confinement. Kokesh's "crime" was a political movement--he planned to stage a rally. He didn't hurt anyone, but he's being treated worse than a murderer. He is a political prisoner, pure and simple. America isn't supposed to have political prisoners. Tell DC Chief Lanier to restore Kokesh's Constitutional rights and stop persecuting him for his political beliefs.

  • Strengthen Social Security
Because the Budget Committee is considering chained CPI for SS. Patty Murray is on this committee and has not come out against this proposal. If chained CPI had been instituted in 2002, today the average SS recipient would be receiving $869 less than they are currently receiving using the current method of calculating cost of living increases. These are earned, promised benefits and it's not fair to cut them now!

  • Please Help People With Chronic Pain
I have lived in Chronic Pain since 1997. I have personally experienced a life while on pain medication vs. a life without. A life without pain medication is the same as no life. I am unable to participate in my life or even care for myself, my home and my family. It has became increasingly hard if not impossible to received any type of pain management. For those who live in Chronic Pain it is the same as some kind of war torture. We fall into a depression as the pain takes away our joy for life. The Politicians need to realize that these folks aren't the problem and quit punishing us.

  • Washington Redskins: It's Time to Change the Name
The name "Washington Redskins" is racially derogatory and has no place in today's culture. For decades, Native Americans have asked the team to choose a different name, and in recent years the movement has gained momentum as major media outlets like the San Francisco Chronicle and Slate Magazine have decided to stop using the term, as has award-winning Sports Illustrated NFL writer Peter King. This week, the Major League Baseball team, Cleveland Indians, announced that they will remove their own racially derogatory logo from it's uniform. The professional football team in Washington must recognize: it's time to change the name.

  • Senators Boxer and Feinstein: Strengthen Social Security & Tell the President: "Hands off of Soci...
Recent news reports say President Obama is once again willing to sacrifice Social Security in the next round of budget negotiations with the Republicans, which may be just six weeks away. California voters, we can’t let that so-called “grand bargain” happen. It’s not a bargain, it’s a betrayal–a betrayal of Americans who’ve worked hard all their lives and paid into Social Security. The good news is that Social Security champions like Senator Tom Harkin not only have said “No!” to cuts, they’ve put forward a common sense plan to strengthen Social Security. But before Sen. Harkin’s “Strengthening Social Security Act of 2013" can get to a vote, it needs more co-sponsors. That’s where you come in: Sign this petition urging our Senators Boxer and Feinstein to co-sponsor Sen. Harkin’s bill. The more Senators that co-sponsor the Harkin bill, the louder and clearer the message is to the media, Senate and House Republicans, and President Obama: “Social Security cuts are off the table. Period. End of story.” Like millions of hardworking Americans, I worked and paid into Social Security for nearly 60 years, and my employers paid too. Join me in urging Senators Boxer and Feinstein to co-sponsor the Harkin bill. You’ll be taking an important step for keeping America’s promise to pay the benefits we earned, including cost-of-living raises which really keep up with inflation. You'll be saying "No" to "Chained CPI," which would cost the average retiree almost $100 a month after ten years.

  • Governor Corbett: Invest in Public Education to Ensure a Bright Future for Pennsylvania
Inadequate state funding has caused children in our public schools to face unprecedented cuts to educational programs and increases in class sizes. Higher education has become less affordable and less accessible for college students as state funding for PASSHE universities has been slashed. We need Governor Corbett to make investing in public education his top priority to ensure a bright future in Pennsylvania for us all.

  • Boycott Maximus Coffee!
Maximus coffee workers have been on strike in Houston since October 10th because company bosses have proposed to cut workers salaries by up to 50%, increase the employee cost of company health care plans and stop company contributions to retirement plans. We must put pressure on Maximus management to bargain fairly with UFCW so that workers can return to work as quickly as possible with a living wage and decent benefits. This would be a good outcome for the workers, the community as well as the company. It would be beneficial for the workers because when workers wages are cut, communities suffer because workers cannot continue to contribute to the community as they had before. it would be beneficial to the company because trained and experienced workers would continue to produce quality products instead of the inferior products produced by scabs or disgruntled, underpaid, overstressed workers. Boycott Maximus coffee and the companies that distribute their products which includes: Beaumont Coffee, Boston Best Products, Cafe D’Irio coffee, Cloverleaf Coffee, Folgers Coffee Products, Maxwell House Coffee Collections, Maxwell House Coffee Singles, Maxwell House De-Cafe coffee, Maxwell House Filter Packs, Maxwell House Instant Coffee, Maxwell House International Café, Nestle Coffee Products, Sanka Instant Coffee
