A photo uploaded to Facebook this past Friday has gone viral due to its racist and disrespectful tenor. A trio of young Floridians appear in the image, a woman flanked by two men, with the two men unabashedly wearing handmade Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman Halloween costumes. The Zimmerman costume consists of a black "neighborhood watch" t-shirt while the Martin costume includes black face and a blood stained grey hooded sweatshirt. In addition, the Zimmerman character has fashioned his hand into a gun and is pointing it at Martin's head. The Obama Administration is trying to get an agreement with the government of Afghanistan that would keep thousands of U.S. troops there after 2014, constantly exposed to mortal danger. No U.S. commitment to keep thousands of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan beyond 2014 should be allowed without prior Congressional debate and authorization, consistent with the Congressional role in making decisions about war envisioned by the Constitution and the War Powers Resolution. Congress didn’t allow the Administration to bomb Syria without Congressional authorization; Congress shouldn’t allow the Administration to keep thousands of U.S. troops in Afghanistan without Congressional authorization. Urge President Obama to go to Congress for explicit approval before making any commitment to keep thousands of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and urge Congress to insist on a Congressional debate and vote before any such commitment takes place.

People who are unable to pass a background check can obtain guns legally at gun shows held at the County Fairgrounds by buying from unlicensed sellers (private sales). This "loophole" makes it possible for people who shouldn't have guns to bring them into our neighborhoods, carry them openly anywhere in Arizona, and sell them to others. By allowing this to happen on public, County property, the County is promoting an unsafe situation. Tell the County Supervisors: Don’t let people who shouldn’t have guns buy them on County property!

Most of us skaters can not get all the way out to the skatepark we currently have. The current skatepark we have breaks a lot and does not conform to all of our skating styles. Most of the skaters in Searcy skate around business' of downtown Searcy. If we had a skatepark that was in downtown Searcy it would keep us out of the local business' way.

The Problem: In New York State it is legal practice to withhold information pertinent to criminal cases from a defendant and his defense attorney until the very moment of trial. This is not because the information is unavailable; it is because the prosecution does not have to turn over such information earlier. For example, prosecutors are not required by law to hand over police reports, prior testimony, and any other evidence to the defendant until trial begins, and in some cases, not until the first witness takes the stand. A prosecutor does not even have to turn over evidence that might help a defendant or cast doubt on his guilt unless the prosecutor thinks it is important. This practice costs both taxpayers and the judicial system a great deal of time and money. The Solution: We request that New York State Senate Bill Number: S4089-2013 gets voted out of the Senate Standing Committee on Codes as new Criminal Procedure Law Article 245, thereby repealing CPL 240. As a result, CPL Article 245 would require that both the prosecutor and defense attorney provide the opposing party with extensive discovery early in a criminal case. In addition, CPL Article 245 would include a mechanism for prosecutors with legitimate concerns about the safety of their witnesses or with on-going investigations to withhold or redact any evidence or information covered by the statute and to move for a protective order.
