• Put Science First In Protecting Our Water (Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OA-2013-0582)
For years, deniers of sound science have rejected everything from global warming to pollutants in our waterways. This approach has led to a significant rollback in key clean water protections: more than 59 percent of U.S. streams and 20 million acres of wetlands are vulnerable to toxic dumping and pollution. Fortunately, the Environmental Protection Agency has taken steps to address this error by relying on sound science to help restore these key protections. The EPA needs to hear from you: speak out for sound science and clean water. The EPA’s preliminary scientific report confirms that streams, wetlands, and floodplains—regardless of their size or how frequently they flow—are connected to downstream waters. The EPA must finalize this report and follow the science by restoring protections to waters that supply drinking water to 117 million Americans. Simply put, we need stronger protections for these critical watersheds. Your ability to fish in, swim in, and drink clean water is at stake! The Clean Water Act is our nation’s best guard against dirty and contaminated waters. Earthjustice has been working to defend and enforce the Clean Water Act for decades. Please join us in urging the EPA to finalize its Science Report quickly; follow its conclusions regarding the importance of ALL streams, wetlands, and open waters to U.S. waterways; and apply sound science to restore protections to these critical and interconnected water bodies.

  • 30 MPH Speed Limit on Rt. 172
This stretch of 172 is home to hundreds of school children who ride school buses every day. Drivers from NY and CT frequently travel this stretch of road in excess of 50 MPH and there have been multiple accidents over the past several years. For the safety of our children and overall quality of life, let's make Rt. 172 30 MPH like most other roads in our area.

  • Congress: Stop the Default; Protect Students & Our Country
The U.S. could default on its loans tomorrow if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling and end the shutdown. A default could be a financial disaster. Interest rates on most types of loans are projected to skyrocket. Inevitably, student loans would become a lot more expensive, and future borrowers who take out a new federal loans would be crushed by these rates.

  • Women's Locker Room at the Rec
In the Spring 2011 CU Student Government Election, a referendum was passed to “Buff up the Rec.” This was brought to a vote of the students because it was projected to raise student fees approximately $122-125. In voting on the referendum, students were not given specifics of what the new Rec Center would look like, but rather were asked the following yes or no question: “Do you, as a University of Colorado-Boulder student, approve an increase in funding for the extensive renovation and expansion project of the University of Colorado Recreation Center at the rate of $121-125 ($102-104 for construction bonds and $19-21 for operations) per student, per semester, beginning Fall 2013 in student fee dollars and spanning a period of 25 years?” The referendum passed with a vote of, “yes,” and construction began in Spring 2012. While the blueprints and floor plans were presented to CUSG, there was not clear indication that the Women’s Workout area would be removed from the Women’s locker room. In the midst of the “Buff Up the Rec” construction, the Women’s Workout area was taken out of the Women’s Locker Room over the summer of 2013, and there are no concrete plans to create a similar workout area for women elsewhere. After speaking with Gabrielle Krupp, member of the Rec Center Board, she stated that the completed construction will foster a more private workout environment. This has caused temporary concerns for many women who previously used that workout area. Many women in the CU community have expressed that they do not feel comfortable working out in the same weight room as men. Some have even expressed that without the privacy of the women’s workout room they will no longer use rec center facilities to workout. In a recent survey that was conducted by Representative at Large, Coco Wham, women indicated that they would like free weights and mats to be returned to the women’s locker room.

  • Impeach and remove Tea Party Republicans in the U.S. Congress
The purpose of this petition is to communicate to the United States Congress that we, the undersigned, are American citizens who want to impeach and remove from the Congress the following Tea Party Republicans for abuse of power which is harming the American people. Abuse of power is cited in the U.S. Constitution as an impeachable offense. These individuals conspired to force the shutdown of the Federal Government contrary to the will of the majority of the members of the House, the U.S. Senate, and the American people: Representatives: Michele Bachmann, Minnesota Joe Barton, Texas Gus Bilirakis, Florida Rob Bishop, Utah Diane Black, Tennessee Michael C. Burgess, Texas Paul Broun, Georgia John Carter, Texas Bill Cassidy, Louisiana Howard Coble, North Carolina Ander Crenshaw, Florida John Culberson, Texas Jeff Duncan, South Carolina Blake Farenthold, Texas Stephen Fincher, Tennessee John Fleming, Louisiana Trent Franks, Arizona Phil Gingrey, Georgia Louie Gohmert, Texas Vicky Hartzler, Missouri Tim Huelskamp, Kansas Lynn Jenkins, Kansas Steve King, Iowa Doug Lamborn, Colorado Blaine Luetkemeyer, Missouri Cynthia Lummis, Wyoming Kenny Marchant, Texas Tom McClintock, California David McKinley, West Virginia Gary Miller, California Mick Mulvaney, South Carolina Randy Neugebauer, Texas Rich Nugent, Florida Steven Palazzo, Mississippi Steve Pearce, New Mexico Ted Poe, Texas Tom Price, Georgia Phil Roe, Tennessee Dennis A. Ross, Florida Ed Royce, California Steve Scalise, Louisiana Pete Sessions, Texas Adrian Smith, Nebraska Lamar S. Smith, Texas Tim Walberg, Michigan Lynn Westmoreland, Georgia Joe Wilson, South Carolina Senators: Mike Lee (Utah) Jerry Moran (Kansas) Rand Paul (Kentucky) Tim Scott (South Carolina) Ted Cruz (Texas) In order to block the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, a law which was passed in 2010 and subsequently upheld by the United States Supreme Court, the above-named individuals recklessly conspired to force the shutdown of the Federal Government. This shutdown is causing financial, physical and emotional distress and ruin to many thousands of American citizens, including but not limited to: active military service members, military veterans, hundreds of thousands of Federal employees and contractors who have been furloughed and/or are working without pay, providers of essential services, families and children, the elderly, and countless others. The government shutdown has brought uncertainty to the nation's and the world's financial markets, and may result in creating another recession in the United States of America and the entire world. In addition, Representatives Boehner, Cantor, and other Republicans in the United States House of Representatives rigged the rules so that only they or their designees can bring the government shutdown matter to a vote in the House of Representatives. These individuals refused for weeks to bring the matter to a vote. Their abuse of power, and their reckless and irresponsible actions are causing great harm to the American people and the world. Therefore, we petition that the Republican Tea Party caucus members in Congress be impeached and removed from office.

  • Expel Cruz and Cantor Now - Save Freedom
Description: Our democratic process is based on the intent of the constitution. Considering the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was approved by both houses of a duly elected congress, signed by the President of the United State and vetted as constitutional by the Supreme Court of the United State, this is a law of the land and the will of the people. In October of 2013 these men, in collusion with non-elected influence groups like Koch's PACs, FreedomWorks and the Heritage Foundation; initiated great disruption within congress against the will of the people. Hard working American’s voted for certainty and improved opportunities for their families and communities. Ted Cruz and Eric Cantor subverted governance for their own purposes. Now Americans want justice. Accusations: 1. Poor judgment by ignoring the will of a majority of Americans (voters) 2. Conflict of interest by following the will of outside organizations with hidden agendas 3. Rules changes and subverting an orderly budget process which has worked for centuries 4. Collusion and planning to hold the Good Will and Faith in the USA hostage for their cause 5. Allowing Koch's PACs, FreedomWorks and the Heritage Foundation undue influence (lobbyists) Demand: We demand that each congressional member agree to the following action and expedite this process with full transparency and accountability to voters including timely status reports. The Constitution, Article. I., Section. 5., para 2: Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member. 1. Expel Cruz and Cantor as soon as possible 2. Increase transparency of rule changes that allowed this to take place - close loop holes 3. Investigate and report on the extent that Koch's PACs, FreedomWorks and the Heritage Foundation influenced decisions by elected representatives

  • Stop the Maryville Coverup
Nearly 2 years ago, 14-year-old Daisy Coleman was raped at a party by a high school football star and grandson of a powerful local politician in Maryville, Missouri. But now, he’s walking free while Daisy and her family struggle to survive with what happened to her. Immediately after the rape, Daisy and her mother went to the hospital and reported the rape to police. Matthew Barnett was charged, and he confessed on tape. But months after the rape, county prosecutor Robert Rice--who has close ties to the alleged rapist's influential grandfather--dropped the charges. Worse, the town and high school ganged up not on the rapist, but on Daisy and her family. This is Steubenville all over again. And just like the Steubenville case, if thousands of us speak out and shine a national spotlight on Maryville, we can get justice for Daisy and her family. Will you sign our petition to demand justice for Daisy?

  • Pres. Obama: Remember the Beirut Peacekeepers
Iranian leaders are currently seeking relief from the lawfully imposed U.S. sanctions. Hundreds of survivors, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters of those killed or maimed in the Oct. 23, 1983 Marine Barracks bombing seek relief from their pain and suffering every day. 30 years is too long to wait for justice. President Obama can hold Iran accountable for their actions. Remember the peacekeepers, Mr. President. The first duty is to remember.

  • The cost of fast food wages
Recently released research shows how low-wage, no-benefit fast food jobs force workers to rely on public assistance programs, leaving our tax-dollars to foot the bill-- to the tune of $708 million. If you think it’s outrageous that our tax dollars are being used to line the pockets of fast food corporations instead of going to schools, park and other public services that would benefit all New Yorkers, sign our petition to the members of the New York State Legislature demanding they investigate this fast food swindle.
