• Twitter: Don't Play Tricks with Your Taxes
Twitter just barely became a publicly traded company -- but it's already finding new ways to dodge its taxes. A tax loophole might let it deduct $154 million from its taxes, for buying stock options for its leaders -- but it only spent $7 million on those options. Don't let Twitter get a tax deduction that is 20 times what it actually spent. Tell CEO Dick Costolo not to exploit this loophole.

  • protect private property rights
Private property is regularly breached. Both I and many others have been hassled and threatened with fines by these city employees. This has been going on for a long time. I attend functions at this office and have established a blog wherein I tell of it. nobodysdamnbusiness.org is it's name

  • Extend Voting Hours in Virginia
Due to the extensive traffic in Northern Virginia, many voters were unable to place their votes by the 7:00 pm deadline. Many of us unfortunately have commute times that can extend over 90 minutes and jobs rarely have the 9-5 hours that were once a staple in this country. After noting the deplorably low percentage of people attending the voting booths this November, I believe extending the voting hours from 7pm to 8pm will allow more people to vote and will increase public participation in the democratic process.

  • Put KY coal severance money where it belongs!
The KY state government is supposed to oversee the proper use of this money and has instead voted to spend 2.5 million from the dwindling fund to renovate the UK Basketball arena in Lexington. Meanwhile coal-impacted communities struggle to fund education, necessary infrastructure repairs, and clean drinking water. This is shameful. Stand with the KY Student Environmental Coalition to oppose wasteful spending of coal severance taxes and to demand transparency on the ways that severance monies are allocated.

  • Justice for Renisha McBride
We still live in a society where blacks can't even get help because we are seen as "dangerous" After the Zimmerman case, it's now okay to shoot a black person and claim self defense. Renisha deserves justice!

  • No war on Iran - Diplomacy always
Our Congress is acting like a warmonger and not allowing diplomacy to fix U.S./Iran relationship. The U.S. needs to stop settling things with wars. The Afghanistan and Iraq wars have left our country economically devastated, and the countries of Afghanistan and Iraq completely devastated. Obviously, war was the wrong choice for our dead soldiers and the people of Afghanistan and Iraq.

  • Free Speech on Cablevison TV
We watch many news programs like the Rachel Maddow Show and others on MSNBC. We feel they do not cover as much information as is needed to keep the public informed and educated because of other less progressive programming elsewhere. More time slots are needed for people with busy lives to view these other progressive shows.

  • Remove Tepco Before You Remove That Fuel
The management of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear site demands a team of the world's best scientists and engineers, and sufficient financial resources to attempt to handle the situation. We are concerned that Tokyo Electric Power Company is not best suited for removing the hot fuel rods from Fukushima Unit Four or doing what needs to be done the site as a whole.

  • Munsey Park Planning Board - Say No to Subdivision of Section 3, Lot 116, Lot 4
From the Munsey Park Website: Munsey Park was developed on land purchased by newspaper publisher Frank A. Munsey in 1922 and willed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1925. From the beginning, homes were designed by architects to conform to a traditional 'American' style of home - custom built using the best materials and workmanship. To this day plans for alterations, additions or new construction are reviewed to insure proper design and individuality, while protecting each neighborhood from extreme designs not in architectural harmony with the rest of the community. Why it Matters: The current plan before the Board of Directors requests the subdivision of the approximate half acre corner lot on Bellows Lane and Manhasset Woods Road (currently unimproved land) into two approximate quarter acre parcels on which to build two spec houses. The block on which this parcel sits consists of lot sizes no less than approximately one-third of an acre (with corner lots typically larger). Subdivision of this lot will be a detriment to all residents as the construction of two houses on smaller lots will not be in architectural harmony with the surrounding homes. Two structures crammed onto this one lot will be an eyesore that can never be removed if approval is granted. Manhasset Woods Road is a thoroughfare which most Munsey Park residents travel to get to Northern Boulevard or Park Avenue. Please join us in opposing the subdivision to preserve look and feel of Munsey Park that we as a community have long fought to maintain. Thank you for your time, Concerned Munsey Parkers

  • Build a Flood-Free Philippines
Fatal floods have killed thousands of people and destroyed thousands of homes in the Philippines over the past 5 years. My family back home in the Philippines have been directly affected (Typhoon Ondoy), with my grandmother's home being destroyed, leaving her and the rest of my family with barely shelter and food from the aftermath of the flood. There is little to prepare when a disastrous flood occurs, than to seek indestructible shelter, which is what the Philippines lacks. Lend a hand and help create and build a flood-free Philippines.
