• Thank You for Supporting College Affordability!
While some colleges have been in the news lately for cutting funding for financial aid programs or being in cahoots with banks and profiting off of students, these five colleges have raised their hands in support of students and making college affordable: Union College, Roger Williams University, Portland State University, Washington State University, and Ohio State University. By supporting efforts to make college more affordable for students, these colleges and universities acknowledge that costs have grown unsustainably. No two institutions are identical, and not every solution will look the same. But every institution of higher education needs to do something to ease the burden of student debt — and these institutions are committed to doing just that.

  • Say no to charter high school at Grand and Long Avenues in Chicago.
Chicago is a city that is turning more violent by the day. Adults need to use common sense so as not to needlessly endanger children. Having two different high schools so close together will cause a friction that does not need to be there. This whole situation could be defused by moving the site of the charter school by a few city blocks.

  • Missouri's Delegation of the 113th U.S. Congress: Grow Up!
This petition is the only thing I can think to do that both expresses my displeasure about today's state of affairs in Washington, DC, and proposes what I believe is a completely reasonable solution. I have already sent an open letter to members of the delegation through their websites or Facebook pages. But, of course, they'll feel free to ignore a plea from a single constituent--no matter how enraged he is by their irresponsible behavior.

  • American People Place A STOP PAYMENT on the Salaries of Congress Members due to UNNECESSARY GOVER...
I am starting this petition because as a hard working, tax paying American citizen; I can no longer just watch this incompetence on television! I am an employee that is barely paid for a job well done, at the same time I am an employer who elected/hired members of This Congress and paying significant amounts taxes for a job barely done. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

  • Name Elena the MoveOn Cookie Queen for life!
Everyone knows that an army marches on its stomach, and an army of activists, organizers, and campaigners is no different. Elena's dedication in ensuring that the MoveOn army would be fed deserves a big golden crown and a walnut-burl-backed plaque of appreciation, so the least we can do is give her an arbitrary (and permanent) title to honor her commitment.

  • Cross that aisle and end this shutdown!
We, the American People, are exasperated and exhausted after watching the political machinations of those who are interested in maintaining their clout in the name of doing what the constituents want. We want a hero, someone who's not afraid to compromise. We want someone who's willing to cross that aisle and make some hard choices without worrying about fallout from the GOP or the Democratic machine. Don't hold out on us. And, by the way, we're smarter than we look; we can smell the arsonist-firefighter a mile away.

  • Constitutional Amendment to Freeze Congress' Pay During Government Shutdown
The 27th Amendment to the Constitution restricts any Congress from changing its own pay. The measure was proposed in the first days of the Republic but was not ratified until 1992, after a grass-roots movement promoted the idea and the necessary number of state legislatures approved it. While many may have wanted to restrain Congress from increasing its pay, the amendment also blocks Congress from freezing or cutting its compensation. It is time for another grass-roots movement to ensure that in a federal government shut down members of Congress are not getting paid while soldiers and other more essential federal employees must either work without pay or be furloughed. Fair is fair.

  • NEVER. Not Ever
This is a constructive way to express my extreme frustration and anger at the destruction of a once proud GOP. It provides concrete proof that their tactics are not working now, and will have far reaching consequences, for decades to come.

  • Make Detroit Belle Isle a National Landmark
Detroit Belle Isle Park is a public park which should remain free and open to everyone. The best way to protect the park's history as well as its historic importance would be for it to become a national landmark.

  • No pay for Congress during shutdown, but daily fines until government is back in business
The government shutdown is the fault of both the House and Senate. The members are receiving their pay during the shutdown. Not paying them, and not paying them retroactively--plus a fine of $10,000 per day of the government shutdown--should get the government up and running very, very quickly.
