It's time that Congress started behaving like adults and not children and represented the people of this country. Their actions are of no consequence to them as their pay and benefits are not affected. They are supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people--but it's only we the people being hurt by this government shutdown.

The government shutdown affects us all. The man most responsible for rallying the votes should be removed from office. The American people should have a say in their government. If the government isn't doing what is best for those people, there should be consequences.

I am a single mother with one child in college and the other about to graduate from high school. I need my paycheck like everyone else. I have a mortgage, car note, and bills like everyone else. Without a job I can't help my children with student loans in any way. But more importantly, with 1.2 million more people out of work this is going to have a major impact on the economy as a whole and the ramifications will still be felt even after we go back to work for small businesses as well as large. The longer we are out, the worse it will be. With the entire economy of the United States at risk, Congress should not continue to be paid for this blunder. PFC Tony Potter Jr. risked his life fighting for our country and was killed in action. There are memorials all over for soldiers who have died in combat; PFC Tony Potter Jr. deserves to have a memorial as well.

Fed up with the lies & deceit and the pandering to corporate interests. Fed up with what they have done to the poor & the middle class. Fed up with their self interests & their game playing. I worked all my life contributing taxes, SS deductions, Medicare deductions, paying high interest rates to banks that keep selling my mortgage to someone else, yet, now on a fixed retirement income, I cannot afford to pay my utility costs. Fed up with the dirty business of the oil & gas industries lies & destruction of our natural resources, and their grip on the politics in this country. Fed up with what they have done to our health via vaccines, drugs, chemical spraying from the skies, additives in our food & water & allowing chemical companies like Monsanto & DuPont & Dow to grow & prosper, while poisoning our water, our air & our environment. We deserve to have unprocessed food, fresh air, clean water sources, free energy & health care. We need our freedom from bondage. We need people who are working for US, and not the corporations & Wall Street. It's time to get rid of them all.

Today Congress fell behind on its basic responsibilities to keep the lights on and our doors open in federal offices around the country. As a result, 800,000 workers are taking an unpaid day off today and for the foreseeable future. That's a terrible idea, both for the economy and for the nation. Congress needs to know we want them to turn the lights back on!

Let's be honest: it hasn't been working out between us for a while. From the Wall Street bailout of 2008 on down to the sequester, it’s been pretty clear that your allegiances lay with the banks and multi-national corporations, rather than the majority of Americans.
