• Rep. Walorski, Support a "Discharge Petition" to Pass Immigration Reform
Comprehensive immigration reform is being stalled by Speaker Boehner. Let's bypass Boehner by turning up the heat on members of Congress and demanding that they introduce the Senate bill and support a discharge petition. . Here's how it works: 1. Any member of Congress can introduce the bipartisan Senate immigration bill into the House. 2. We only need 218 members of Congress to sign the discharge petition - every Democrat and 17 Republicans. 3. Then, whether or not Speaker Boehner likes it, the bill automatically moves to an up-or-down vote.

  • Changes at Sumter County-City Animal Control
The dogs picked up by AC are living, breathing souls; God’s creations. We must end the killing of healthy dogs that, by no fault of their own, have ended up at AC. We must improve the facility and we must stop wasting our tax dollars by putting a band-aid on the dog overpopulation problem in Sumter. We need to fix the problem. We cannot kill our way to fewer unwanted animals! We must speak up; we are their voice! Your signature is your voice! Please support efforts to save the lives of these deserving dogs and demand that they are treated humanely with compassion and decency.

  • Eliminate Educational Debt of Disabled - Service Connected Veterans
Service Connected Disabled Veterans receive a small pension for their sacrifice to our nation, but many did not fall under the guidelines of the GI Bill, and went to school to further their and their families lives. Now they are burdened with educational debt that they are unable to pay, and where the interest rates make paying this debt impossible, affecting there credit for their lifetime and where this debt should be forgiven, due to their sacrifices.

  • Constitutional Amendment Authorizing Recall of U. S. Congresspeople
We do not send Senators and Representatives to Washington to mindlessly sabotage Presidential initiatives in the name of politricks [sic]. We elect them in hopes that they keep in mind the greater good and act thereon. How do we take back the reins of government and let our elected officials know that it is "we the people" - living, reasoning, breathing, bleeding human beings - for whom they should be laboring, and not corporations, which, in the eyes of the law, are considered persons, as well? So please join with me in demanding that Congress propose an amendment that will give us the authority to fire them if they are not about their constituents' business.

  • Demand Toxic Pesticide Protections!
Why don't The bugs bite your apples? It’s a funny question with a serious answer—Americans want inexpensive, perfect-looking fruit and vegetables, and pesticides do the trick. But those good looks come at the expense of farmworkers who wade through fields soaked with toxic pesticides to pick what we eat. Each year, 10,000 to 20,000 farmworkers and their families contract acute pesticide poisoning, according to the federal government. They suffer stinging eyes, rashes, blisters, nausea, headaches and even death. Long-term impacts include infertility, birth defects, endocrine disruption, neurological disorders and cancer. You can help end this travesty by joining with us in demanding stronger worker protections. Our target is the weak and outdated Worker Protection Standard, which is meant to safeguard farmworkers but hasn’t been revised for more than 20 years despite overwhelming evidence of its inadequacy. Act with us in calling on the EPA to strengthen the Worker Protection Standard by: -- Providing more frequent and more comprehensible pesticide safety training for farmworkers -- Ensuring that workers receive information about specific pesticides used in their work -- Requiring safety precautions and protective equipment limiting farmworkers’ contact with pesticides -- Requiring medical monitoring of workers who handle neurotoxic pesticides Workers in other sectors of industry are protected from hazardous chemicals, but not farmworkers. Let’s restore their right to a healthy environment!

  • Mayor Gimenez: Keep the Model City Library OPEN
The Mayor of Miami-Dade County introduced his proposed budget for 2013-2014, which froze the millage at its current rate. Subsequent cuts to public services were proposed to include the closing of the Model City Library in Brownsville, Miami-Dade County, FL. This library serves an area where poverty is raging. The library serves a predominantly low-income community and is one of the largest and busiest libraries in the County. Closing this library will cause direct, adverse impact on scores of children and families who can not afford a computer nor access to quality reading materials. The Model City Library is also an EARLY VOTING PRECINCT. This library needs to remain open in order to give these children a fighting chance at a decent education and to ensure that the ability to vote at this site is in place for next year's vital election cycle.

  • Stop herbicide spraying on drinking water source watersheds.
The Oregon Department of Forestry, acting under the Oregon Forest Practices Act, continues to issue permits to spray herbicides over replanted clear cuts even when the land to be sprayed are clearly defined watersheds used by public water districts for drinking water. Other forest practices such as manual brush cutting are effective, but private forest managers are not required by law to use these alternative methods so some continue to spray. This is a flaw in the Oregon law and places citizens unnecessarily at risk. The Oregon Forest Practices Act should be amended immediately in special session. There is no effective way for water districts or the public water consumers in these small Oregon communities to assure non-degredation of their drinking water, in the face of direct herbicide applications to our watersheds.

  • Patrick Morrisey: Do you really care about women?
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has launched a cynical and transparent ploy to undermine women's health. His campaign for further regulation of abortion clinics claims to be about the health and safety of women -- but you and I both know that's not true. Singling out abortion providers for unnecessary regulation will not improve health and safety for women -- it will make it harder, or impossible, for providers to continue to offer women quality, affordable care. But it's not too late to do something about it. Now is our chance to let him know that we oppose further regulation of this type, which is unnecessary, politically motivated, and designed not to promote quality health care but to make it less available. Tell him that you don't want politics placed above the health needs of West Virginian women.
