• Yakima City Council: Suspend our sister-city relationship with Derbent
Russia's sports minister, Vitaly Mutko, has said that foreign nationals, including Olympic athletes and spectators, will be subject to Russia's anti-gay laws during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The city of Yakima should send a clear message that violence and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender citizens of our sister city of Derbent, Russia is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

  • Innocent man behind bars facing homicide charges because of jealous and obsessed ex- friend.
This petition is in relation to Bijorn Trent vs. Lehigh county in an alleged homicide that occurred December 4, 2012. The ex- friend (Lourdes Gonzalez) and 3 of her friends went to the defendants house and vandalized his common law wife's car and then jumped the defendant. The defendant hit one of her friends knocking him unconscious and the unconscious man was later pronounced dead. APD was called prior to the incident in relation to the exfriend harassing and threatening the defendants wife for months before the incident. The whole situation was caught on tape and Lehigh County still has not charged the aggressor with a crime. In addition there are 3 other families who were also subject to the same situation caused by no other than Lourdes Gonzalez. All four families have suffered a great deal of loss such as employment, jail time, or having to relocate from their homes because Lourdes Gonzalez has not been charged for her crimes. This is an absolute injustice to these families who have to now live in fear because even with evidence this criminal (Lourdes Gonzalez) is allowed to roam free and victimize someone else. This is an outrage to our community of tax paying citizens who buy into the justice system by being law abiding tax paying citizens. Where is the justice for these families?

  • Tell Justice Dept. to investigate Texas troopers for “Stop and Probe”
Two women were driving their car on the highway when they were pulled over for throwing out a cigarette. The next thing they know, the state trooper claimed to smell marijuana, and the women received a full body cavity search. The female trooper who conducted the cavity search has already been fired, the male trooper is under investigation, and the women are suing for sexual assault. This incident is bad enough, but it isn’t an isolated occurrence among the Texas state Highway Patrol. It has happened before and it might happen again unless something is done. Tell the Department of Justice to investigate the Texas Department of Public Safety for multiple cases of Fourth Amendment rights violations.

  • Suspend our “sister-city” relationship with anti-gay Russian city
Albany, NY should send a clear message that violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender citizens of Tula, Oblast is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Russia's elected leaders are out of control—and we can't stand for it any longer. Russian law allows police officers to arrest tourists and foreign nationals they suspect of being homosexual, lesbian, or “pro-gay” and detain them for up to 14 days. Russia's “gay propaganda” law makes any parents who tell their children that being gay is okay, any Pride parade organizer, any health official distributing information regarding safe sex between same-sex partners, and even judges and lawyers subject to arrest or fine. Already people are being arrested, beaten, intimidated, and more. Russia’s sports minister, Vitaly Mutko, has said that foreign nationals would be subject to this law.

  • Gov. Christie: Return the wasted "Stronger than the Storm" funds
On Sunday the Asbury Park Press revealed that Chris Christie wasted millions in Sandy relief funds to promote himself on television in the run up to the gubernatorial election. Reports indicate that he chose a politically connected firm that was almost twice as expensive as its competitors because it promised to feature him and his family in their ads. Two firms bid on the ad campaign to promote the shore over the summer and fall. One cost $4.7 million, the other cost $2.5 million. But the more expensive firm pitched a campaign featuring Governor Christie and his family, and the less expensive firm didn't. The Christie campaign has more than enough funds to field its own ads, and to misuse Sandy funds for taxpayer subsidized reelection advertisements is unconscionable. They should reimburse the state so that the $2 million can be spent for the benefit of communities devastated by Sandy.

  • Slapping women is not a joke.
A Republican Super PAC has put out a new online "game" where they ask their supporters to virtually slap Hillary Clinton across the face. The Super PAC is known as The Hillary Project and is an anti-Hillary Clinton group that lists Christopher Marston--a Republican campaign consultant and a former member of the Bush administration--as its treasurer. Violence against women is not a joke. It's disgusting, it's outrageous and--regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum--it has no place in our politics. Can you sign the petition demanding The Hillary Project pull down this game and apologize for advocating violence against women?

  • Russia's anti gay propaganda law in the Olympics
Russian officials have told gay Olympic athletes and spectators preparing for 2014's Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia—and anyone publicly showing support for them—that they will be prosecuted under Russia's "gay propaganda" law, which makes talking about being gay, waving a rainbow flag, or holding hands with a same-sex partner in public illegal. An international outcry can convince Russian leaders to change their policy. At least 83 U.S. cities have a sister-city relationship with a Russian city—and MoveOn members in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Charlotte are already calling on their cities to suspend ties with their Russian sister city until Russia welcomes gay athletes and spectators to the Winter Olympics.

  • The Raise in the State Base Pay of Servers/Waiters
I am one among the legions of the growing disenfranchised that work honestly, hard, and continually, daily. We pay taxes, we pay child support, we buy our uniforms and supplies as needed all from this meager and undignified source of income. The base pay for servers/waiters in Texas is $2.13 since 1991. Please, help us raise the pay to match the cost of living, inflation, and other unseen variables. That further hinder us and not help us in our pursuit of Liberty and Happiness.
