  • Stop the US Fish and Wildlife from De-Listing wolves
The USFW is trying to de-list federally protected wolves which are only about 15% reintroduced to their former habitat range, breaking the mission statement and purpose of the Endangered Species Act. One of the main mitigating factors the USFW cites is the "human intolerance" towards wolves. This said intolerance is the job of the USFW and ESA to remedy. Killing wolves because of "human intolerance" weakens the ESA and opens up trophy hunting to all endangered species hunters deem "human intolerant".

  • Repeal the Castle Doctrine Expansion (Shoot First Law)
This is a plea to Representative Jake Wheatley to open up discussions for repealing the Castle Doctrine Expansion (PA's version of Stand Your Ground). While his intentions to protect his constituents from violent crime are commendable and certainly understandable...these types of laws INCREASE the numbers of "justifiable homicides".

  • IMMIGRATION REFORM NOW! GA 14th District
The next few days are critical to reform our broken immigration system, when Congress returns to work in September. To do this, we need to keep pressure on House Republicans to give us a vote on immigration reform with a path to citizenship. Here In GA 14th District, immigrants are an essential part of the global carpet/floor manufacturing economy and other industries, but with no option to fully participate in this democracy, and no freedom to even drive to perform the most basic daily activities. Right now, if House leaders scheduled a vote on reform with a new roadmap to citizenship, a bipartisan majority of members in the House would vote for it. Part of democracy is letting the majority will express itself. It’s up to House Republican leaders – Speaker Boehner, Majority Leader Cantor, and Majority Whip McCarthy – to do just that. • The time is now for a real solution: reform with citizenship. We want nothing less than an inclusive path to initial immigration status and an achievable path to eventual citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants in America. • We have an historic opportunity to get it done and get it right. This is the best chance we’ve had in a generation to pass common-sense immigration reform. It’s good policy: it combines elements in a way that will modernize our immigration system so it’s safe, legal, orderly, and humane.

  • I support Obamacare
Some of the benefits of the Affordable Care Act • 21.3 million more Americans will get healthcare coverage. • You can’t be denied coverage for preexisting conditions such as asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure or even cancer. And if you or a family member get sick or injured, insurance companies can’t cut off your coverage or cancel your plan. • Your kids are covered. If you have children, they can stay on your family health insurance plan until they turn 26. • No more dollar limits on your care. You can get the care you need, without having to worry about huge, unexpected medical bills. • Your coverage is protected. An unintentional mistake or minor omission on an application can no longer give your insurance company an excuse to cancel your coverage. More preventive care is covered • Medicare now covers a yearly wellness visit and preventive care at no cost to you. This includes cancer, cholesterol and diabetes screenings, immunizations, diet counseling and more. • Lower prescription drug costs for Medicare, and the “donut hole” will disappear entirely in 2020 • Every state will have a Health Insurance Marketplace where people looking for coverage can go online to shop for health insurance. • For the first time, there’s help available to pay for health coverage. In fact, many people who buy their plan on the marketplace can get help covering the costs. Low-cost or free plans are also available depending on your income. • Small businesses can get tax credits, there are cooperative possibilities to lower costs and many other benefits for the small business owner. • Obamacare requires insurance companies to provide preventive care as part of your coverage including: High blood pressure screening, Diabetes screening, Flu shots, Colorectal cancer screening, Tobacco cessation counseling, Depression screening,HIV screening for those at risk for the disease • Services for Women, including: Mammograms, Cervical cancer screening, Osteoporosis screening, Gestational diabetes screening, Well-woman visits • Services for Children: Immunizations, including flu shots, Autism screening, Behavioral assessments, Development screening, Obesity screening and counseling • Services for Men: Cholesterol screening, Prostate exams

  • Raise the Minimum Wage
Corporate profits are at an all-time high, and wages at an all-time low. Though productivity has increased 99% over 4 decades, wages have stagnated, increasing only 4%. Workers don't enjoy the rewards of their increased productivity, while corporate CEOs make out like bandits. Even as CEO compensation has skyrocketed over 900 percent, the minimum wage has lost one-third of its value over the past 45 years. Adjusting minimum wage for inflation since 1968, 30 million U.S. minimum wage workers would be making $10.56 instead of the current $7.25 per hour. Raising the minimum wage to $10.50 would provide important economic stimulus.

  • Mayor Jackson: Don't Restrict Southbound Brewing Co.'s Business Practices
NOTE: The proposed City Council restriction on the educational tours and tastings ordinance (which is already Georgia State Law) would prevent all Savannah breweries from hosting private events (including future breweries for Coastal Empire Brewing Co and Service Brewing Co.). Southbound Brewing Company is a new brewery in Savannah, Georgia, and the city is voting on an ordinance on August 22, 2013 that would restrict their business practices, such as private events and possibly educational tours of the brewery. However, Georgia State Law allows for all Georgia breweries to conduct tours and have private events. Why should Southbound Brewing Co.'s business practices be hindered? It's unfair and would make Savannah an unfavorable place for other potential breweries to open. Breweries are job producers and good for the growing artisan and “support local” movements. Also, breweries are statistically shown to be charitable. Southbound for example donates their spent grain to the Bethesda Boys Academy, and 100% of production breweries give to charity organizations and participate in fundraising events for charities. 47% of our production breweries report that they regularly volunteer and in Georgia alone craft breweries reportedly donated $172,000 to charity organizations in 2012. I am a craft beer lover, small business advocate and want to see Savannah thrive and believe having a stronger craft beer scene will help our local economy and culture. To read the state law, copy and paste this link: http://rules.sos.state.ga.us/docs/560/2/7/01.pdf.
