Many Virginia state residents are affected by drivers that get away with causing accidents merely because a lawyer can prove there MAY have been a fraction of a percentage of fault on the victim. This happened to me when I was rear ended while riding a motorcycle. An inattentive driver hit me from behind and because I wasn't going fast enough even though the truck was speeding, I get nothing more than $15,000 in medical bills, a loss of my mode of transportation, and unpaid time off work. Let's stop this from happening to others and make sure those causing accidents are held accountable. It's time to remove a law that only 3 states have been holding on to and move into a day and age that holds people accountable for paying attention to the machinery they operate. Time to make our roads a safer place or make those that don't want to be safe pay for their negligence.

Senate Bill 1 is designed to tell women what is right for them to do with their own bodies. Women are very capable. No man can tell a woman how to take care of her pregnancy and her health. The bill assumes women are not only monsters, but willing murderers of the fetus in her body. The bill penalizes women - especially the poor - by keeping them from getting the healthcare they need. Stop this bill, because it is wrong for all women. It will cause the unnecessary deaths of women in Texas. Allow public hearings on Senate Bill 1 before voting.

I have held public office several times in my life. Now as a retired small business owner, I can be overwhelmed by big money with no disclosure coming into my Tier 1 community and "buying the media". Complete transparency and full disclosure of all monies and resources to a person and/or political party every 30 days should become normative.

The decision by the Obama Administration, giving employers an extra year to offer insurance coverage, is yet another time the President has caved in to Republican Party rhetoric and threats. President Obama needs to follow through with his campaign promises of change. After electing President Obama twice and with almost five years in office, I’m still waiting for this change to take place. President Obama needs to stop caving to Republican threats and intimidation and to push through with Democratic Party principles. I thought elections matter? As Governor Patrick Duval articulated while speaking at the 2008 Democratic Convention, "Democrats need to grow a backbone". Mr. President you need to listen to Governor Patrick and lead your party by example. We’re getting killed out here.

The City of Santa Fe currently has a minimum wage of $10.51 an hour. This wage helps working families to provide for themselves and their children and to be stronger parts of their communities. Now we have the chance to expand this $10.51 minimum wage to the rest of Santa Fe County. Will you sign the petition to the Santa Fe Commission now?

Congressman Daines recently accepted a $10,000 contribution from Citizens United for his 2014 campaign. Last November, in the same election that Montana voters sent Steve Daines to Congress, Montanans called on our elected officials to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision when we passed Initiative 166 with 75% of the vote. But instead of heeding the will of the voters, Daines is aligning himself with the very group leading the assault on our clean election laws. Please join me in demanding that Congressman Daines return the Citizens United money.

My son Jake was a victim of a drunk driver on Sunday, June 30, 2013 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Jake is 9 years old and with the daughter (12 years old) of his father's girlfriend. Both children survived with minor injuries, thankfully! The man who struck them was a second offense drunk driver, thus making it his third offense. Additionally, he had illegal possession of narcotics, adding to his charges. News reports told the man stated in his video arraignment that he was not working in his career and only made so much a month 'as a referee for high school games'.

In this time of expansion and growth of Moab’s trail system, especially along the scenic highway 128, we must reexamine the name “Negro Bill Canyon” and rename this popular hiking trail and campsite. By renaming Negro Bill Canyon as Grandstaff Canyon (and correcting the spelling of the nearby Granstaff Campground), we still acknowledge its history, while respecting the man: William J. Grandstaff.

The Supreme Court ruling in the Citizens United decision has been an unmitigated disaster for the American people. It is imperative that the Constitution be amended so that it clearly states that corporations are not people and should not have the same rights as people.

If we do not protect voting rights, who are we?

I have known this woman and her sons for 35 years and this conviction is insane! She has loved and cared for animals’ everyday of her life. She has been terrorized for five years and because she spoke up, she is now facing 25 years in prison for something she is innocent of doing.

Genetically modified food is controversial. Many scientists reveal multiple studies showing its harm.
