Senator Kirk: Stop Voting Against Students in Illinois!Senator Kirk recently voted against the Student Loan Affordability Act, which aimed to keep interest rates low for students for another two years. Instead, he voted for another proposal that could see interest rates skyrocket up to 8.5%. 64% of students have student debt upon completion from college in Illinois (where the average student loan debt is $26,440) and 337,440 students in Illinois are Stafford Loan borrowers. Students in Illinois can't afford more debt, and on July 1st, student loan interest rates are set to double from 3.4% to 6.8%. We need Senator Kirk to stop voting for proposals that will hurt students in Illinois and the rest of America.5,539 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by I Am Not A Loan

Ban the use of harmful pesticides that are decimating our bee population.A class of neuroactive insecticides known as neonicotinoids are destroying our planet's bee population. We ask for the United States government to ban the use of these dangerous pesticides, which are already banned in Europe. These neonicotinoid pesticides are decimating our planet's bee population - as much as 90% in some places. If left unchecked, they could destroy our world’s ability to grow enough food to feed its population. We call for the Obama administration, United States Congress, and the EPA to ban the use of neonicotinoid pesticides and protect our bees. These harmful pesticides are also poisoning other animals, and the toxic effects are bound to affect human beings. According to a study performed by the American Bird Conservancy, neonicotinoids are lethal to birds and to the aquatic systems on which they depend. A single corn kernel coated with a neonicotinoid can kill a songbird. These studies represent the canary in the coal mine. Who knows what the long term effects on our children are going to be? Would you help protect the health of our children and the environment for future generations?950 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Vidura Barrios

Georgia Senators: The Time Is Now For Immigration ReformWe feel that to begin to repair our badly damaged immigration system, reform must be just and effective. S 744, he Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, is the best chance we've had in decades to address what most Americans consider to be a broken system. We urge Senators Chambliss and Isakson to vote yes on S 744 and begin allowing new Georgians to step out of the shadows and have the opportunity to earn a path to citizenship.311 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Stacey Hopkins

Tell Kroger, the country's largest grocery store chain, not to sell genetically engineered seafoodMajor grocery store chains representing more than 4,600 stores across the United States, such as Target, Aldi, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Giant Eagle, and Meijer, have committed not to sell genetically engineered seafood. Now we are asking Kroger, the nation’s largest conventional grocery store chain, to follow suit. Unless Kroger signs the Pledge for GE-Free Seafood, it and its subsidiaries, which include Ralphs, Fred Meyer, GFC and Food 4 Less, may soon be selling genetically engineered salmon and other genetically engineered seafood. The Food and Drug Administration has strongly suggested that it won’t likely require genetically engineered fish to be labeled, leaving consumers with no way of avoiding them. Through the Pledge for GE-Free Seafood, however, stores and restaurants can make clear to consumers their policies against selling genetically engineered seafood. If Kroger and its banner stores agree not to sell genetically engineered seafood, it could be one of the last steps to make sure GE seafood is dead in the water in the United States.129 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Peter Stocker

Tell Rep. Paul Ryan and his Tea Party allies to stop opposing a raise to the federal minimum wage!Do you have $10,000 to spare so that you can dine with Tea Party Republican Paul Ryan in Baltimore? I didn’t think so, but that’s how much billionaire Mitt Romney’s former vice-presidential running mate is asking for if you want to be a “Presidential Sponsor” for the Republican Party’s annual Red, White and Blue Dinner in Baltimore on June 20. It’s not often that someone like Paul Ryan comes to town, and maybe it’s because he knows that most Marylanders don’t support his extreme right-wing policies that hurt the working class while benefitting Ryan’s 1% campaign donors. As part of his austerity agenda, Ryan has fought tooth and nail against efforts to increase the federal minimum wage – which has remained stagnant since 2009 As he visits Baltimore tell Rep. Paul Ryan and his Tea Party allies to stop opposing a raise to the federal minimum wage! Raising the minimum wage is one of the issues I care most passionately about, and that’s why we’re fighting to increase Maryland’s minimum wage. Unlike the tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires that Paul Ryan supports (that do nothing to help create jobs), raising the federal minimum wage would stimulate our economy from the bottom up. Raising the national minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would increase GDP by about $32.6 billion and create approximately 140,000 net new jobs. I don’t know about you, but I think that sounds pretty good Join me in telling Rep. Paul Ryan to stop opposing a raise to the minimum wage – hard work deserves fair pay!508 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Joe Dinkin

Support a global warming plan for Rhode IslandRecently, environmental leaders in the Rhode Island General Assembly have pushed forward a bill that would rein in greenhouse gas emissions to levels consistent with what science says we need to reach to avoid the worst effects of global warming. But to get the bill over the finish line in the last weeks of the legislative session, we'll need Rhode Islanders all over the state to weigh in with their representatives. Send a message to your state rep and senator: Support the Climate Solutions Act.153 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Channing Jones
