• Congress, drop the nationwide abortion ban bill
VOTE COMING UP: URGENT ACTION NEEDED! A nationwide ban on abortion after 20 weeks is under debate in Congress, even though an appeals court has only recently called one such ban "blatantly unconstitutional." These pointless theatrics waste time and do nothing to protect women's health. Research shows that barriers to access only lead to unsafe abortion. If Congress is truly concerned about women's health and safety, they should work on improving access to safe abortion care. Congress will begin debate soon and could vote as early as this week, so sign the petition now!!

  • Governor LePage: Label GMOs in Maine!
Thanks to thousands of Mainers speaking up, both the House and Senate voted to pass LD 718, which will label genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Maine. The Maine House of Representatives voted 141– 4 in favor of the bill. The Maine Senate voted 35-0 in favor of the bill. The bipartisan support for this issue has been incredible! But we still need your help to make history. The success of this bill is now in the hands of our Governor. Please sign this petition and share widely. Ask Governor LePage to sign LD 718 into law to label GMOs. Thank you to everyone who has helped get us this far. Now, let’s make the final push to make GMO labeling the law of the land in Maine!

  • Heavy Bookbags Cause Damage
Children are being forced to carry extremely heavy book bags every day to school. It is unhealthy for them and could cause them physical damage. There should be a limit imposed on the amount of pounds allowed in children's bags.

  • US Stop Supporting Violent Suppression of Protest in Turkey
The Turkish government is turning one of the few parks in central Istanbul into a shopping mall. It will be constructed inside fake Ottoman military barracks from a century ago. A lot of my friends in Turkey are gravely concerned by the violent suppression of protest over this. The Turkish government might be less hard-line if it was not confident of unwavering support from the Unites States government.

  • Mayoral Candidate Weiner: Take a Stand for NYC Animals!
Thousands of cats and dogs entering the NYC Animal Care & Control Shelter System are killed in a broken, archaic, money wasting system. Taxpayers and animal loving New Yorkers deserve better! The No Kill Equation is sweeping the country, saving upwards of 95% of the precious lives in shelters that formerly killed our pets. New York should be a model for the country, saving lives and money with a new paradigm. It's time to take killing off the table! Time to get the poor, abused carriage horses out of traffic, heat, snow and car fumes. That's what we want from the next Mayor of New York!

  • Governor Quinn, sign the medical marijuana law!
I am a physician licensed in the state of Illinois. I believe many of my patients must forgo the benefit or buy illegally this beneficial and otherwise harmless substance. It is currently classified as a class 1 narcotic with no benefit. This is the list; heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis), 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy), methaqualone, and peyote. This is clearly wrong.

  • Breast Feeding Support for Military Families
Breast-feeding is the best possible start to a baby's life. TRICARE, the health care coverage for American military families, does not cover breast-feeding supplies for their families - except in extreme circumstances - although breast pumps are now required to be covered by the Affordable Care Act (aka "Obama-care"). More than 600,000 families in the United States have members on active duty, and about 40% of all active duty military personnel are parents. Almost all of these families receive their health care coverage from TRICARE (aka: Humana, Inc.). For some reason, TRICARE is exempt from the Affordable Care Act's policies. The World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the American Academy of Pediatrics - among many others - recommend EXCLUSIVE breast milk feedings for babies under six months old. Please join me in asking for support for our military families' most vulnerable additions.

  • Prince Georges County Foreclosures Highest in The State Of Maryland
Since 2007, our nation has been in a recession. Prince George's County is still a targeted community struggling with the highest rate of foreclosures in the state of Maryland. Countless so-called "nonprofit" agencies have absorbed millions of dollars in the name of assisting homeowners, but the money never reaches the people of Prince George's County. Banks continue to behave fraudulently. Local judicial systems turn their heads, or perhaps they do not understand or know the laws of the courts. Elected officials won't address the issues of the people who voted them into office and built the Prince George's County community. Millions of dollars have been lost and are unaccounted for. Our leaders do not demonstrate accountability. We've seen ineffective modifications that eventually lead to foreclosure and predatory lending with exceedingly high interest rates. This petition is a call to action to keep our homes and the land we live on in Prince George's County. STOP foreclosures. Eliminate spectators coming into our community.

  • NextEra Energy is a total fraud, and veritably a criminal entity.
NextEra Energy Resources, originally Florida Power & Light, has amassed a fortune in subsidies alone, almost $ 5 Billion in just 2010, not to mention the tax credits from provisions of the PTC ( Production Tax Credit ). Simply put they are purely a criminal enterprise promoted by a blend of an unwitting government and the gross naivete of the general populace. They just initiated a law suit against a woman, Esther Wrightman, in Ontario Canada, for "defaming" them for destroying an Eagle pair's nest, so they could install some more usless contraptions and entitle themselves to more tax credits and subsidies in return for more carnage of the environment. This is the epitome of their absolute moral squalor and a resonant statement of their unfathomable cupidity. Look to your power company. or go to http://www.eia.gov/energy_in_brief/, for information about their actual PRODUCTION of power, NOT CAPACITY, that's as inane as valuing your car based on the maximum speed indicated on your speedometer.
