• Make HARRY POTTER America’s National Book of Heritage
This is a petition to legitimize our nation’s association with HARRY POTTER. Our nation has a national anthem and a national past time, but we do not have a national text of heritage. HARRY POTTER is the one book that has unified our faith as a nation in the living WIZARD. HARRY POTTER has been historically attached to our nation, from the Pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock, to educating Slaves on America’s Underground Railroad and even so today. HARRY POTTER's place throughout American history is that inheritance and our nation’s legacy should be to acknowledge this text with such an honorable title and declaration.

  • Fix Congress with New Citizen Chamber
In recent decades, Congress too often has underrepresented the interests of the greater majority in favor of minority special interests. These interests can exert an unbalanced influence on legislative agendas, electoral processes, and free media, and they can undermine our democratic ideals. Recent attempts to remedy this situation include changing the filibuster rules in the Senate and campaign finance reform, but they have failed. This illustrates the difficulty of reforming Congress from within. Fortunately, the Constitution provides a method independent of Congress whereby two thirds of the governors may convene a constitutional convention, and three quarters of the states can ratify an amendment to change the Constitution. Today, citizens have the technology to directly participate in our democracy to an unprecedented degree. We, the petitioners, therefore ask the governors to convene a constitutional convention for the purpose of creating a third, virtual chamber in Congress called the Citizen Chamber (CC). The CC will have the singular authority of voting on legislation which moves through either the House or the Senate, thereby influencing the outcome of that legislation. Every voter will be able to cast an electronic vote over the Internet on any legislation moving through Congress. In order for the CC to influence a congressional vote, a quorum of one fifth of 1% of registered voters - or about 300,000 votes - must be cast, otherwise the vote in the House or Senate shall remain unchanged. If there is enough citizen interest in a particular bill to achieve the necessary quorum, the ratio of the yea to nay votes in the CC shall multiply the yea votes in the House or Senate, which will then determine the final vote outcome. For citizens without internet access, provisions for voting stations in public high schools will be made available every business day. The Citizen Chamber will have the capacity to act as a third and independent party, therefore more perfectly reflecting the will of the people in Congress.

  • Philippines immigrants deserve parity with illegal Latinoes
Thousands of Philippine American families are forced to wait over 20 years to reunite siblings. Uncles and Aunts are often never given the opportunity of consideration for immigration to join families in the US. It is unfair and inhumane to give Latinos that entered in the US illegally to become legal immigrants cutting in line ahead of Philippine immigrants that have followed the rules. The average wait for my brother to be considered for US immigration is 23 years, why should ALL illegal Latinos be allowed to jump ahead in 13 years?

  • Unfair Credit Report Checks
I'm an unemployed Healthcare worker who is trying to find a job in NYC. However, I feel I am being discriminated against simply due to my credit report. I am seeking a non-financial based position and I want my credit report to be kept private. I don't want my credit report being plastered in public. Nor do I want it to be used against me when I am trying to find a good job.

  • No arms to rebels in Syria
The US has no business joining with al Quada and other jihadist groups to take down the secular govt of Syria. This is a civil war backed by Islamic fundamentalists and fascist Arabic nations. The peacful protesters departed long ago. Tell Obama not to mimic Bush and get us involved in another war in the Middle East, which if "successful," would result in another fundamentalist theocracy, led by groups which are both anti-American and at sectarian war with other Syrian groups.

  • Demand NICE to Adjust Last N26 Bus to Jamaica
n26 which only has three trips in AM from Jamaica Bus Terminal to Great Neck Station, and while PM trip with last bus ending at 5pm heading from Great Neck Station to Jamaica. This is problem for many businesses in Great Neck, where people want last 5pm n26 to Jamaica to leave at 5:15pm or add one more trip like 5:15 or 5:20pm as last bus.

  • Pass Tuition Equity for New Jersey Dreamers!
There's a bill making its way through the legislature right now that would give thousands of bright, hardworking students around the state a shot at the American Dream. (A-4225) would allow students who have attended high school in New Jersey for at least three years and have either gotten their diploma or GED to pay the same rates as their fellow residents at New Jersey’s public colleges and universities. Passing this bill isn't just the fair thing to do; it's the smart thing to do for the state and its economy. One of the main draws of businesses to New Jersey is our highly trained workforce. Holding back talented, high-achieving students who could join the next generation of engineers, teachers, and nurses is as short-sighted as it is unfair.

  • Tell Senator Burr: Quit Standing in the Way of Students!
Senator Burr is effectively standing in the way of students who will see their student loan interest rates double on July 1st if Congress doesn't act to keep them low. In a floor debate with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) objected to voting on a proposal that would keep interest rates low for the next two years. Instead, he's in favor of a "fix" that could see student loan interest rates skyrocket and create more debt for Americans -- much more than if student loan interest rates were allowed to double.

  • Senator Leahy, Convene a Senate Select Committee on US/Corporate Intelligence activities
At a time when nearly three-quarters of all U.S. intelligence gathering and analysis are being conducted by private corporations, we as a country have approached perilously close to what Franklin D. Roosevelt described as "the essence of fascism." In light of recent disturbing public disclosures concerning the extent of intelligence gathering activities undertaken by U.S. governmental agencies hand-in-hand with corporate partners, both at home and abroad, it is clear that the time has come for us, as citizens and elected representatives, to take a cold, hard look at the behavior and practices that have developed from that partnership.
