• Tell Congress: Students Deserve Well-Prepared Teachers!
What would you do if you found out your child’s teacher, who your school insists is “highly qualified,” was actually inexperienced and had actually didn’t have a credential? Great teachers are the backbone to any great school. A well-prepared teacher working with other professionals in a stable environment is critical to strengthening schools and improving learning. The U.S. House, as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Action (ESEA) reauthorization process, is considering a proposal that would continue to allow underprepared teachers who do not have adequate training or certification to be identified as ‘highly qualified’ under federal law. According to the Office for Civil Rights Data Collection, children of color are twice as likely to be taught by novice teachers. Students with disabilities are also taught disproportionately by inexperienced and unprepared teachers. Tell Congress to VOTE NO on H.R. 5 and to oppose any extension of the temporary provision allowing teachers in training to work in high-need schools, because it waters down the entry standards for new teachers. Federal law should protect students and set a standard for teaching quality that ensures all students are taught by teachers who are well-prepared for the job. “Highly qualified” should mean something – it should tell parents that the school district is serious about providing quality instruction!

  • Justice for the Whitehouse Boys (Dozier School for Boys)
University of South Florida researchers have been using ground-penetrating radar to map the school's unmarked burial grounds. While many of the graves have been lost, the USF team has identified nearly 50 grave shafts, 19 more than the Florida Department of Law Enforcement found in an earlier, cursory investigation. USF also suspects that another cemetery exists. But on Monday, Secretary of State 7/15/13 Ken Detzner denied USF's request to exhume the bodies, saying his authority was "restricted to the recovery of objects of historical" value only, "absent a danger to the grave site that actually threatens the loss or damage of those remains."

  • Call for an Investigation of Head Directors Who don't Investigate and Prosecute White on Black Ha...
For too long African Americans have been used as visa cards, ignored, wrongfully convicted, Denied Due Process, denied equal protection under the law, Raped as a people within the systems of the US government, from Courts, Prisons, Schools, Foster Care, Welfare, Medicaid, Underfunded cities and communities. We need to have the Head Directors at State Levels and Federal Levels Investigated for Obstruction of Justice, and Fraud. Complaints are at their highest ever, yet little to no action is being taken at the state or federal levels to Properly Investigate and Prosecute WHITE on black offenders. Little to nothing is being done to enforce the laws against racial discrimination. The US Gov. makes money off of Blacks and the poor with HIGH conviction rates in courts (court cost), high prison population in jails (40k each prisoner a year, 40,000 x 1 Million people), as foster children (20k each child a year, 20,000 x 1 Million children). They close our schools and under fund our communities, leaving more money for their communities and schools. We have to call for an Investigation of Head Directors of Programs who have many complaints but little to no investigation or prosecutions. Most Head directors with the FINAL SAY are White at local, state, and federal levels. Their actions or lack there of is PROOF of Racial Discrimination, Grounds to have them removed with out voting. Each and everyone who failed to prosecute or enforce laws time after time. This has to change for us to get justice. Follow the money you will see the game. We are Visas with no real rights or EQUAL PROTECTIONS.

  • Ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment
The Equal Rights Amendment was introduced to Congress 90 years ago. Even though a fierce battle for equality was fought during the 70's and early 80's, not enough states ratified the amendment. Therefore, there is nothing in the US Constitution that cements any women's rights, except the right to vote. Please join our group on facebook ERA NOW www.facebook.com/groups/ERANOWGroup

  • We Need Answers Now: How Far Did Indiana Go To Ban Howard Zinn books?
Mitch Daniels was a high-ranking Bush administration official and Governor of Indiana - and it's just come out that while Governor he emailed his state's Commissioner for HIgher Education, Teresa Lubbers, demanding that she attempt to purge books by the massively influential historian Howard Zinn from education courses because he didn't like Zinn's political views. We need answers on how far it went. Having a Governor personally intervene to deny credit for studying an academic he or she didn't like is disturbing enough - what makes it even worse is Daniels just became President of Purdue University, one of the most important research universities in the United States.

  • Give South Dakota a Raise
South Dakotans value hard work. But for many hardworking South Dakotans, the $7.25 per hour minimum wage isn't keeping up with the rising cost of living. Raising the minimum wage puts money in the pockets of hard working people who'll spend it on the things their families need everyday. That generates new business and grows the economy. And a lot of those folks will depend less on government assistance too. That's why the South Dakota Democratic Party and our partners have filed an initiated measure for the 2014 general election to raise South Dakota's minimum wage to $8.50 per hour with annual cost of living increases. Because South Dakotans want an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthiest CEOs. Stand with us and sign our online petition to show your support for our initiated measure to raise South Dakota's minimum wage. Together we can start making South Dakota a land of opportunity for all people again.

  • No Book, or Movie Rights for George Zimmerman!
George Zimmerman claims to be so sorry for what happened. Yet, he stands to make millions selling his story to book publishers and even movie studios the right to make a television movie. This petition is meant to make sure Zimmerman never profits from his actions on Feb 26th, 2012. Yes, he is a free man, but he did not lose a child. He admitted how terrible it was, yet he could now become a millionaire. I am asking you the public to sign this petition to prevent Zimmerman from profiting from killing Trayvon Martin that night.

  • Department of Justice: Investigate Juror B37's Book Deal as Juror Misconduct
Juror misconduct is when the law of the court is violated by a member of the jury while a court case is in progression or after it has reached a verdict. It is believed that Juror B37 had a book deal before or during her services as a Juror in the matter of the State of Florida v Zimmerman.

  • Gov. Scott: Prove Your Commitment to the Youth with the 'Trayvon's Law
We honor the memory of Trayvon Martin and pay respects to his family. This tragedy serves as a vivid reminder of the pain felt by youth in their communities, in which they are profiled, criminalized and targeted. Unless we take action nothing will change. The Zimmerman verdict showed the world that Florida has no value for the life of its children. We have been engaged in a peaceful sit-in of the Governor Rick Scott's office in the State Capitol since Tuesday, July 16 demanding that he call a special session of the legislature to deal with these issues. After three days of waiting and sleeping on the Capitol floor while the Governor traveled around the country and state, he finally agreed to meet with us on Thursday, July 18th. Unfortunately, when the Governor finally met with a contingent from the group, he failed to rise to the occasion. Rather than using his considerable power to create change, he told us he would call for a statewide day of prayer to end racial profiling. We feel he has to do much more. This is an opportunity for Governor Rick Scott and the Florida legislature to show leadership prove their commitment to the next generation of Floridians.
