  • FAME: Save Chef Jose Medrano at Internal Revenue Service
Chef Jose Medrano, one of the best chefs apart of the Internal Revenue Service cafeteria staff, was fired by FAME on Friday, May 3, 2013 with no notice and no explanation. Jose is a great chef who is very popular with the IRS employees and very professional in performing his duties. He efficiently oversaw the daily operations of the cafeteria, going above and beyond his job description most of the time. Jose should be rehired by FAME as a chef for the IRS cafeteria or any other location. He is the friendly, accommodating face that encourages the IRS employees and others to return day-after-day to purchase their meals. Please sign this petition to help get Chef Jose Medrano back into sharing his lively spirit and passion for cooking with FAME.

  • Kids, Not Cuts
I have no idea why Congress would be considering a devastating $6.9 billion cut to education funding — but we need your help need your help to stop it. These kind of cuts don't paint a pretty picture: Teacher layoffs, bigger class sizes, fewer aides for kids with special needs. Everyone deserves a fair shot in life, and that starts with a quality education. Yet, the House recently passed a budget which cuts billions in education funding, slashing the programs that education millions of kids here in the Bay State and across the country. The last thing we need to be doing now is cutting eduction. These cuts come on top of huge cuts that just went into effect when the Sequester cut education funding by $1.7 billion. These cuts will soon impact 1.2 million kids and take 30,000 teachers and staff out of schools. We need champions in Congress to fight back against Rep. Paul Ryan, Sen. Rand Paul and others who think we should slash education funding to the bone. I think that champion should be Sen. Elizabeth Warren, as a teacher and professor and someone who knows how to take a stand. Join us in calling on Sen. Warren to lead the charge against education cuts in Congress.

  • Stop the Spectra pipeline.
The Spectra Pipeline, a high-pressure gas pipeline under construction in Manhattan's West Village, slated to go online in November 2013, poses a grave and immediate risk to New York residents. Construction of this pipeline puts corporate profits ahead of the health and safety of New York residents. The high level of radon present in the gas that would be transmitted by the Spectra Pipeline from the Marcellus Shale into the homes and businesses of New Yorkers is a serious threat to public health. In 2010 a pipeline of similar diameter and pressure exploded in suburban San Bruno, California, destroying an entire neighborhood and killing eight people. An explosion of that magnitude in densely populated Manhattan would cause incalculable loss of life and property and would devastate the city. Building this pipeline will make New York City further dependent upon fossil fuels that poison our water, pollute our air and threaten catastrophic climate change. This will also discourage New York from making the urgently needed shift to sustainable alternatives, such as wind, solar, and bio-diesel. • Deerfield Estates: Buckhorn Fence Project
Residents of Deerfield Estates were effected by the City of Lorain's change in building plans when Ryan Homes took over the land that Tower Park homes was originally supposed to build on. The specific change is that there is no longer any type of barrier separating the backyards of the homes on Buttercup Lane from Buckhorn Blvd. This creates a safety, privacy, and aesthetic issue for the entire community. Allowing the Deerfield Estates Home Owner's Association to place a white vinyl privacy fence along the stretch of Buckhorn Blvd would rectify this situation.

  • Paddy Lynch: Help the disadvantaged with a hand up.
I see people every day who need help. People who are working but they have to fix a flat, or go to the dentist, or have a furnace go out. Sometimes I see people living in the alley ways. There are lots of people in Durango that make it from paycheck to paycheck....and if they have an emergency, they have to take time out from work to go to a government agency and fill out a ton of paperwork and MAYBE in a month or two or six...they MIGHT get State assistance. I see these people who come ask me for money to get by on. If I have it I lend it. I never get it back, because they barely make it. I am proposing that I receive the .9 cents a gallon of gas that is sold in Colorado to go into a bank account where I can help people out regardless of philosophies, race, gender, creed or religion.
