Every resident of Illinois is at risk from the environmental devastation caused by fracking. This includes polluted drinking water and air, and the destruction of farmland throughout the state. Once fracking begins, the damage cannot be undone, so we must ban fracking now before it is too late.

Although I have not personally been subjected to the ill effects of fracking, I am concerned about the environment, the quality of our water supply and especially the effect on climate change. Fracking is a dangerous procedure, one that each and every individual should be concerned about.

I know from watching interviews with a number of people in other states how horribly damaging fracking is to the environment and the health of both people and animals. I have seen sick livestock, people with various mystery illnesses and cancers, and tap water that can be lit on fire! This proposed area in Illinois is right at my back door, and I am terrified that this may go forward.

Toxic water from Pennsylvania is being shipped to Ohio to be "stored". Fracking is known to cause earthquakes. California has the San Andreas fault and other major earthquake faults. Do not open the Pandoras' box in California with fracking! The effects of fracking cannot be undone. Save the quality of your health, our water, our land, and air by saying "NO" unequivocally to fracking.

California is known as an environmentally progressive state and if we allow fracking here, it will set a dangerous precedent. But momentum is on our side. On Monday, three bills that would impose a moratorium on fracking came up for a crucial committee vote in the state legislature—and they passed! We can win this fight. I took the time out my day to start this petition, please take few moments to sign it and stand up for the continued health of our state.
