  • Maine can help overturn the Citizens United decision.
State Senator Richard Woodbury (independent) has introduced an official resolution calling on the U.S. Congress "to pass a constitutional amendment to reverse the ruling of the United States Supreme Court in Citizens United V. Federal Election Commission." Citizens United was the infamous decision that said corporations have the same "free speech" rights as people and that has allowed unlimited campaign spending by corporations and individuals, drowning out the voices of regular people. Twelve states have now officially called for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Citizens United decision. It's time for Maine to join them. Ask your State Senator and State Representative to co-sponsor Senator Woodbury's resolution. And be sure to join us at 10 AM on Monday, April 29th, at the State House in Augusta, to present this petition to the legislature.

  • Stop the Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline
Keystone XL would carry 830,000 barrels a day of the world's dirtiest, most dangerous oil, putting American drinking water at risk and accelerating climate change. President Obama has the power to stop this disaster before it starts.

  • Charging for Plastic and Paper Bags
If people were charged 10 cents for a plastic and /or Paper bag ,they would start bringing their own bags. This would help our landfills, because it takes a long time for one Plastic bag to decompose and most people only use their plastic bags one time. We cut down mill approximately 14 million trees, each year for paper bags. They have a successful program in California and in Hawaii, why not North Carolina ?

  • free haircuts, free lunch,for a congress that doesn't work...no, I Don't think so!!!
90% of the american people favor some form of gun control or at least a vote on the issue. If the congress won't vote on an issue so favored by the people lets not buy them lunch or haircuts. Lets save money by making them either do their job or at least pay for some of the freebees.

  • Sequestration is ill-conceived and devastating legislation which must be repealed immediately.
Congress made a bad decision by enacting "Sequestration" and does not have the integrity to step up and correct it in the face of it's obvious and disastrous effects. Last week, they demonstrated their ability to act almost overnight when they quietly overhauled their own Insider-Trading Law (to their benefit), and they can do it again when it will benefit so many ordinary Americans in so many different and vitally important ways. The unintended and devastating consequences of this ill conceived legislation are far beyond anyone's ability to foresee and it must be repealed immediately in the interests of America and the American People.

  • Diocese of Columbus: Reinstate faculty member Carla Hale
While grieving the death of her mother, 19-year teaching veteran Carla Hale was called into her principal's office at Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus, Ohio, and told she was being terminated for violating Diocesan Policy 45116.1, the code barring teachers from violating "moral laws." When pushed for specifics, administrators told Carla an anonymous parent had complained after seeing Carla's long-time partner, Julie, mentioned in her mother's obituary. Carla Hale was a much loved and well-respected teacher at Bishop Watterson. Please sign the petition to the Diocese of Columbus asking them to comply with a Columbus ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and immediately reinstate her as a teacher.
