I as an educator/teacher have been personally affected when I see so many of my good, good ex students facing the fear of being deported to a country they do not know, not only that but been separated from their families. Families who have being here for many, many years and contributed to our society. Please give them their permit to remain in this wonderful country made by immigrants.

I am starting this petition because I want to make sure the 11 million immigrants in this country get a chance at the American Dream. I want your support in this immigration bill, to help save families from being separated as was mine in 2010, when my husband went through the very emotional immigration process. I feel no child should have to spend a birthday, Easter or any day without their parent because of our broken immigration system.

Roberto Clemente educates the highest at-risk high school student population in our school district. This school is repeatedly targeted for closure - which, essentially, is budget-balancing on the backs of the students most in need. My son, Addison, as well as many other young people (and their families) are in serious jeopardy of losing the one program that has proven to help. This school has a waiting list of students being referred from the comprehensive high schools. We should be looking for ways to better support this population of students - NOT deplete it.

Panama Central School received state funds for building projects in 2002 and 2005. Due to oversight on the parts of both the state and the school district, one last report on these projects was not submitted. The state was aware of the omission, but failed to notify the District for several years. Governor Cuomo and Speaker Silver have decided to levy a $4.9 million fine on this small, economically challenged school district. Panama is not the only school district to have been sledgehammered over paperwork issues. This can happen to any school district or other recipient of state funds. The law needs to be changed to require timely notification so that errors can be promptly addressed and not allowed to run on for years and incur unmanageable punitive fines. In the case of school districts, the ones who suffer are the students and the taxpayers, who are on the receiving end of the financial consequences.
